Believe it or not, but most 1-drops don't replace themselves. True Story.
It's like the 3 months before they released Mind Sculptor or the 3 months before Snapcaster. Something changes and all of Blue panics, then the top lists are all blue anyways. It's really not the end of the world if you play another color.
What exactly is stacking the next 5 cards worth? How many cards have to be stacked to be worth it?
If you really think moving forward blue will be able to sustain itself as every top list, which is baseless already, then you should check the spoiler again. Sure rewind is back, and maybe a few other cards will see play in GPs or PTs, but wouldn't it make sense to solve the original problem rather than make up for it with overall terrible reprints like this one?
How much library manipulation is worth it? If Wizards printed a 1 mana sorcery that let you stack your entire deck, would you still be mad you're down a card? What if it stacked 30 cards? 15 cards? 7 cards? Where is the cut off point for this ability sucking?
But wait, they DIDN'T do that and instead reprinted a card to spite Snapcaster Mage even further. Blue could easily use a "nerf" but with the direction this is going, they would have been better off banning part of delver rather than making the color as a whole worse. Just look at the rest of the spoiler, this isn't even an implement of balance.
Unfortuantely I am on a bit of a budget hah but I still have 4 Misty Rainforest as well as 2 Verdant Catacombs and 2 Marsh Flats, though the latter seems to be much more narrow. As for shocks all I have left is 2 Hallowed Fountains. I suppose it may be good enough for now but I'll have to proxy other lands if they are needed until I can get them. I will, however, not let my constraints effect the overall decklist (once it becomes finalized at least) and thread.
As far as the manland goes, Stirring Wildwood is my pick. With basics will likely use forests as the majority with a Plains as well. Not sure about the utility land.
I definitely like the idea and green is an obvious must, but would it be possible to incorporate a white splash if I were to include the 12 land Urza package? I wouldn't count Vesuva as it copies a land you already have and therefore don't need necessarily. Search still feels like a strong one drop but Cultivate and Khalni can definitely be cut for Loam and Realm.
Currently however I've been using a different package with Search for Tomorrow, Cultivate and Khalni Heart Expedition along with some sweeps like *** and DoJ (note this is in a light creature build so sweeps are pretty one sided). It does seem however to be fairly inconsistent, basically being the reasoning behind my search for different paths.
Facepalm. I had multiple tabs on mtgsalvation opened in firefox when I was making my thread and I thought I was within the modern sub forum. Sorry about that and thank you for the quick move mabberman.
I wasn't able to come across anything of this combination when looking through the modern deck creation sub forum so I decided to start one. This concept has been around since the release of Iona, Shield of Emeria and I am in no way claiming to have been the first to put the two together (the other one obviously being Painter's Servant).
Getting more to the point, with the somewhat recent twelve post banning, I am finding difficulty in determining which course is best to take to speed up the whole lock process with Tooth and Nail.
I will be updating this thread over the next several days, but please feel free to share and offer suggestions, as I am currently stuck with how to speed the deck up in the most beneficial, consistent way.
I'm hesitant to use the ECs as I'm trying to move away from 3 drops in this deck but I'll give it a try since most people seem to have good experience with it. Also would you say that I have enough multi colored mana sources to support my sb?
Great thread! I'll have to throw my list up here at some point. There are only two real differences between our lists, being the mana base and rite of consumption count. I was running Glimmervoids rather than Inkmoths just in case there was something off colored I could use for the sb (Like Mindbreak Trap or a few Dispatches). As for rite, I ran 4 instead of the full 4 frogmites, leaving that at 2. I like the idea of darkblast to pick off small creatures, though as for dismember while it is amazing I would rather have something that is going to always be 1 cmc and always get rid of the creature (Dispatch in this case) and if I can get away with running them then I likely will. Going back to the Rite count , what are your thoughts on that?
Assuming 3-4 Pridemages are even been run, why would zoo players need the additional sb hate for artifacts like Grudge and Grip...? That's way too much commitment to just a single match up.
Looks like I couldn't use preordain anyway lol... Jokes aside I don't think plating would be banned, as it's not like the creatures are all that hard to remove or block and kill the equipped creature in the first place. Ravager on the other hand might only because of the simlar qualities it has the JtMS and SFM had being staples in the top decks and not being all that cheap. I suppose the same could be said about Cranial but again it just doesn't seem as likely. Id actually be more concerned about the 0 drops being banned honestly.
Man, all that Salvage Titan talk made me remember about the Demon of Death's Gates that are sitting in the SB of my Standard Vampire deck. Why did it have to be 3 BLACK creatures sigh :(? I would have totally run DoDG in my SB otherwise.
Hah I was thinking about him as well, and honestly I probrably would have switched to a mono black build. Turn 1 DoDG, turn 2 swing Rite of Consumption lol. They'd still need 2 more but you get the idea.
I tested Signal Pest a good number of times, but each time, it seems like it didn't help very much. Does it usually do a lot for you or?
Not sure how I feel about rebutal, and now am just considering Negate since I don't particularly care about their creatures. Not to mention that's what Dispatch is for. Also it would be a huge mistake not to run Pest.
On a side note, I don't think they printed enough terrible artifacts in ISD....

Also with the Walls I'm also considering Ghostly Prison and possibly Chronomatic Escape.
I've seen the Urza package coupled with Wall of Roots and Overgrown Battlement so I suppose that's on the top of my list to try.
Currently however I've been using a different package with Search for Tomorrow, Cultivate and Khalni Heart Expedition along with some sweeps like *** and DoJ (note this is in a light creature build so sweeps are pretty one sided). Finally I am trying to work in either Story Circle and/or Teferi's Moat for added defense.
