Big red with greater gargadon and wildfire was my favorite casual deck, but I'm trying to make it modern with fulmimator mage and keldon marauders.
Self-mill Zombies like armored skaab with life loss spells like undermine and geth's verdict and dralnu, lich lord for card advantage.

Feb 25, 2013It's pretty simple; 5 colors gives you access to everything and anything you want. You can play all the good control spells: Black spot removal and hand disruption, Blue countermagic and card advantage, Green ramp, any sweepers or Wrath effects, and literally any fatty creatures you choose to win the game with. You can make the landbase as simple or as sophisticated as your budget allows. Obviously more nonbasics and fancy lands will make your deck run more smoothly, but you can get by with Evolving Wilds and Terramorphics if it's all you have. The planeswalkers and Thragtusks can be substituted for kill spells or oblivion rings/Detention Spheres and some kind of life gain (Obstinate Baloth) or draw spell (Sphinx's Revelation/Mind Spring/Invoke the Firemind). Make it your own and dominate your kitchen table.
Jan 22, 2013At any given time, I have a deck with Man-o'-War in it. He's kind of a shoe-in to any midrange deck with blue in it. Flametongue Kavu used to be in every red deck until he found a permanent home. Mirrodin Swords are usually decked but are subject to rotate between decks. Wrath of God/Day of Judgment/Damnation because I used to play a lot of multiplayer, and sweepers shine when you're wiping 3 to 6 boards at a time.Posted in: Casual & Multiplayer Formats
I used to try and force bad Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind decks in casual multiplayer all the time.
He doesn't go in every deck, but others would say Sun Titan is my signature creature.

This build is a little slower, geared towards casual multiplayer. It's not particularly strong, but I've had some silly games with this deck where I one-shot people using a deathlinked Battlesphere. 2 Galvanizers and 2 Mana Myr lets me make an infinitely large Lodestone Myr. I try to keep the power level of this deck down because it's already earned enough hate in my playgroup.

This plays like a combo deck.
*Seal of Fire, Sparkmage, Staggershock and Emberwilde Augur all serve as either removal or let me play Rakdos consistetly on turn 4. Late game they're useful as cost reducers for Bloodgift Demon, Inferno Titan and Maga, Traitor to Mortals.
*Inferno Titan is a good card. The burn is nice with Rakdos and he benefits from costing only :symr::symr:.
*Bloodgift Demon gives us card advantage so we don't lose steam, and if I want to I can target my opponent with his effect.
*Maga can be pretty devastating if she doesn't win the game outright; Turn 5 after swinging with Rakdos and hitting them with some "free" burn like Seal, rebounded Staggershock or Augur, she comes down as a fat body and causes massive life loss. Usually the finishing touch, but burn spells, Rakdos, Inferno and Bloodgift fill that role nicely too.
*Demonic Tutor is a fantastic card. It gets me what I need, when I need it. Improves my chances of hitting turn 4 Rakdos, or gets me a Maga to follow up with, etc.
*Blightning is essentially free hand disruption with a Rakdos out; it costs and deals 3 damage.
I've only played the deck once, but the list I have right now looks like it will struggle against aggro decks.

Also, I suppose Prot Bears would be okay surprise tutor targets to flash in and use with Ulvenwald Tracker (Nacatl Savage, Nacatl Outlander, etc).
edit: I might just use Phantom creatures instead of creatures with protection, since they survive longer and are easier to work with. I can probably drop the flash shenanigans and toolbox altogether.
Dec 16, 2012All I want are flash shenanigans. Primal Forcemage makes any of my surprise blockers bigger. Skyshroud Cutter is just a free creature that can potentially have flash, and I like that. Use Phantom creatures in conjunction with Nightshade Peddler and Ulvenwald Tracker to kill their creatures and push damage through. I splashed white and blue for support cards and some nifty Phantoms.

Tower Gargoyle: bring the beats!
Esper Charm: Utility. Card advantage and disruptive control.
Sen Triplets: Goes along with the ESP theme nicely. If you go this route try using Fellwar Stone; it might smooth your manabase some since you're running three colors and it lets you cast their spells form their hand on their turn with Triplets. Same goes for Exotic Orchard.
Gitaxian Probe: Cantrip, ESP-theme. Best if coupled with Cranial Extraction/Memoricide or Pithing Needle/Conjurer's Ban/Null Chamber. Most effective for neutering combos.
Enigma Sphinx: Nice control finisher with some built-in card advantage.

Sterling Grove: protects important pieces of your lock (prison term, Ghostly Prison, etc.) and tutors for them. Run 4.
Pollen Lullaby: Solid fog effect.
Moment's Peace: Another solid fog effect.
Font of Mythos: Quality decking alongside Howling Mine. Run 2 or 4.
Elephant Grass/Ghostly Prison: Makes it difficult for you to be attacked; you're virtually safe if you have 1 blocker every turn and 2 of these out.
Wheel of Sun and Moon: Keeps you from decking yourself or shuts down a graveyard-oriented deck. Has negative synergy with Moment's Peace. Run 1 or 2.
*Cultivate isn't necessary; you won't miss land drops with all the draw and you don't need to ramp into anything.
*Run 23-24 lands.
*Trim the list down 60 cards. I'd cut Aegis of Honor, Witchbane Orb, and Greater Auramancy as they're redundant.

If you play against a lot of fast aggro and burn, Primal Command's life gain can keep you alive long enough to build up critical mass and stabilize. If you're up against slower midrange/control decks, Garruk, Primal Hunter gives you the warm bodies and card advantage you need to stabilize after a board wipe and outplay them later in the game.Posted in: Casual & Multiplayer Formats
If you're gonna stick with Command, I'd maybe add a few singleton fatties to tutor for with it, giving you a toolbox of threats that let's you get the right tool for the right job; Sundering Titan can stop multicolor aggro and combo dead in its tracks, Darksteel Colossus is mean, Primeval Titan lets you get to end-game quicker, Wurmcoil Engine is a straight-up beast, etc.
Alternatively, it's a simple card-for-card swap; just play a couple games with Garruk boarded in for Command. If you like it, stick with it, and if you don't, go back to Command.

If you want control, consider card advantage, 24 or 25 lands and/or acceleration, sweepers, and as you mentioned, more/better win-cons. Consider some the following:

I'd cut Gitaxian Probe, Pursuit of Flight and Dynacharge right off the bat, which gives you some breathing room for adding some of the aforementioned.

You use the Trader's ability on a permanent that you control until EoT (via Act of Treason and the like) targeting yourself, thus gaining control of it permanently.

Bonesplitter makes them drop to zero more quickly.
Trinket Mage can grab Bonesplitter or Memnite.
Grand Architect pumps your blue critters.
Lightning Greaves protects the dorks from spot removal/combat tricks.
Sower of Temptation is mighty aggressive if it fits your budget; flying body, takes out a blocker, and you get to beat them with the blocker you just took out. Even a pair could do wonders.
