Oct 11, 2016I have no idea what the flavour behind such a card is supposed to be. This seems like it should be an Unglued/Unhinged type card. Reminds me of AWOL, except even more obscure and ridiculous. So far away from Magic, to me, that it doesn't even seem like the same game.Posted in: The Rumor Mill

Vehicles just seem so dumb. If vehicles is such a great idea, where has it been the last 20 years? We didn't know how to word such a thing? I call BS on that. As much as they like to say they aren't out of ideas and design space, they're out of ideas and design space. Power creep and silly ideas are basically the only "design space" left, and they're exploiting both to the maximum already. Making limited good (while making the rest of the game worse) is how the company is managing to make profits now, IMO.Posted in: New Card Discussion
But I'm sure this will continue for at least a few more years. Magic's not done yet.

How much upside is reasonable to expect on a completely unplayable garbage common? A fair bit, I'd say. Especially to justify it being rare.
I don't see this having 5 power (when you're willing and able to tap 3 power) as much of an upside.

Which thread allows discussion of the new concept "Masterpiece sets"? I don't see one.
Every card at the link provided has its own thread, or is a reprint. So what is the accepted topic for this thread?
Here's my comment on Champion's Helm, which I hadn't seen before because I don't care for the myriad of reprint sets coming out nowadays:
It's not bad, reminds me of Sword of the Chosen from way back. Lots of players have a "legendary creature" deck. I don't see it having a lot of secondary market appeal except to collectors.

Cards made with different stock have been a no-no since day 1, for good reason. This is potentially disastrous, and had better not set precedent for future printings. I hope they make this a one-of mistake.Posted in: The Rumor Mill
Sep 23, 2016It's good, but poor players won't realize that just having bigger numbers doesn't make a spell better in all cases. For example:Posted in: The Rumor Mill
As an additional cost to cast Cathartic Reunion, discard four cards.
Draw five cards.
You don't always have a hand full of cards.
Hex comes to mind.
Sep 12, 2016Ooooh, so you play this artifact, and then you play instants and sorceries, and then you can deal damage!Posted in: The Rumor Mill
Pretty novel, pretty amazing, I'm so glad they came up with energy counters and the new symbols! Magic hasn't jumped the shark and there's so much more design space to explore!!!!
Sep 12, 2016rancored_elf posted a message on PAX Kaladesh Spoilers - Saheeli Rai, vehicles, energy, other mechanics"Crew" makes little sense to me. The big Flagship needs "crew 3", which you'd think means it needs 3 crew members.... but nah, it just needs a creature with 3 power in order to fly it. Yeesh.Posted in: The Rumor Mill
And oh goodie, we get counters with associated symbols now, that's really useful and won't make the game gimmicky or anything :|
Oh yeah, and we're "creating" creature tokens now. Might as well have made it "birthing" or "popping out". What a mess.
Jul 31, 2016rancored_elf posted a message on what should "prevent all damage to you this turn" cost?I don't believe the effect has been done on its own, but Riot Control and Safe Passage exist.Posted in: Custom Card Creation
Assuming there isn't some design or philosophical reason why it can't exist without extra bonuses and higher mana cost, what cost IS appropriate?
Shrug Off - 1W
Prevent all damage that would be dealt to you this turn.
Perhaps it would be common, like the others are. I think at 2 mana it could possibly be used in more combo situations, and it's decent as a Holy Day in a pinch.
Jun 27, 2016So your creatures transform into bigger creatures at end of turn if you've got the right ones? Fun.Posted in: The Rumor Mill
Will there be creatures that need more than 2 in order to transform? 4 seems like an interesting number to try. Top right, top left, bottom right, bottom left!
