I think the biggest fear comes from the fact that anything really majorly annoying in standard right now is LOR/MOR related. Time Spiral and Coldsnap really don't take anything out that wasn't already phasing out of popularity anyway with the exception of Goyf. Korlash, Martyr, Pickles, Dragonstorm? I don't think any of us can say we've seen much of any of those guys the last 6 months.
I'm quite interested in the double standard in this thread. Everyone is sputtering about WotC saying that Goyf was a mistake, but no one remembers that they said Damnation was a mistake too?
Why can't they print a playable card, this doesn't even have a niche playability.
What are you, high? This card kicks aggro in the fork. 3 mana for a 2/2, 3 life and bouncing a guy? That's an amazing amount of tempo advantage. This card will be seeing a lot of play, even just for its green half.
The thing is, with this combination, every blue mana you have up can counter a spell until your opponent gets smart and plays something in response to you saccing the Archmage. It's still very strong.
Ummm FNM is supposed to be free. So you're spending nothing to get cards worth more than nothing... I don't see the problem. Just cause they're not handing out Goyfs and mutavaults doesn't mean that you're not coming out ahead.
I've been going to FNMs for four years and I've NEVER seen a free one. $5 entry for constructed? Sure. $12 for draft? Totally. Free? Get real. No shop would host a free tournament unless they weren't giving out any prizes at all. My store breaks even every week due to the price they sell the packs (US$2.50) and how they do their prize support ($5 entry for constructed, two packs into prize pool per player, distributed among the top 25%). The reason they can do this is that they make a lot of money off singles and other products, so they can afford to sell the packs for cheap. However, they wouldn't host tournaments without an entry fee.
1) Drafts at the prerelease are only of that set. There will be no SSE drafting at the prerelease.
2) Quillspike and Devoted Druid do not give you infinite mana. They make the Quillspike infinite/infinite. Also, even if you did get infinite mana, Knollspine wouldn't help too much, considering that you have to discard a card with the appropriate CMC.
These prices are due to the "OMFG this card looks amazing" factor that everything suffers from for the first few weeks. Around the time the set comes out, we'll start seeing saner prices.
The hybrid duals at 10ish doesn't surprise me. The Shadowmoor lands average 8-12 at the moment and enemy colors are popular.
My favorite one is Edge of Divinity. Man is that one good. Heck you don't even need to put that one on a creature. You can just put it on a black creature and it will be just fine. Put it on a Prickly Boggart and you will have a 3/2 creature with fear.
It is until Alara is released in October, but I concur on the Liege part (as I did in my first post, but really, any low cost RW goes well with that guy :D.
Frostling hasn't been in Standard for two years. It was printed in Betrayers of Kamigawa.
Rune Snag, snow lands and Skred.
I think the fact that we're able to call cards that WotC was afraid of printing says a lot about how much the game has changed since Invasion.
I'd be willing to bet that they removed this because they're not doing big prereleases anymore.
On-topic: I think this card is a great common. Zoo will be very happy after this set comes out.

According to errata, no it doesn't. You can still do this with Grim Monolith though.

The 25 is accounted for; it shows up on Divinity of Pride.

You can do that with Unholy Strength too.
I haven't seen any of them in action, but in a vacuum, Gift of the Deity seems like the one with the most raw power.

And I had it lose me a game by drawing 8 cards. Your point?
