Jul 13, 2011mach1 posted a message on My Type 4 Stacklooks like a very well constructed type 4 stack it shares a lot of similarities to the stack that my friends and I run. You might want to consider whispers of the muse as a powerful draw spell for larger multiplayer games.Posted in: bimmerbot Blog

I'm looking forward to the grim future! especially that month.
If my opponent plays a card like Iona, Shield of Emeria would I be able to change the color that they named with alter reality(assuming the named color isn't blue)? Or would that not work because the color isn't technically written on the card?
After playing with it at the prerelease I have to agree it is certainly the real deal. Dropping this on turn 2 gives red a decent amount of reach into the late game as well as a plan vs annoying creatures like firewalkers. I would at the very least consider it as a sideboard option.
Lets say you reanimate him turn 1 off of a 7 card hand (43 left in library assuming 60 card deck) He needs 4 more turns to win by attacking so you'll only draw another 32 cards (7 per end step +1 per draw step) before you win. + 1 if you're on the draw instead of the play.
I would think you would have the opposite problem in being more likely to deck if you play him out for 10 instead of cheating him out. given that a 5/4 without any evasion could be stalled by most decks at that point for atleast a turn or 2. Honestly though beyond being cheated into play the only format I could see this being played in is EDH and their library size makes this not an issue.
They do still get atleast 1 turn to deal with it but it does put them in a very bad position. For example they could go draw... tundra into swords to plowshares, you force, they daze. But you still have 6 cards next turn to their empty board again and 4 unknown cards from them (+ 1 tundra) Not impossible but tough...
I can see mono brown stompy loving this in legacy too... metalworker revealing any number of these plays them all
Edit: at the very least it's blue for force of will in a pinch
I think the problem with this in standard is your opponent is more than happy to equip a sword of feast and famine to their creature and swing past your guy if you keep him back and either let him through taking 2 poison or chump him taking 1 poison on the back swing...
Like said before though good in most limited poison decks for sure.
I like the idea. It's refreshing to see a new combo deck. That being said, if you're looking to be competitive this deck needs more disruption I think. I would cut 2 lead the stampede and 2 gaddock teeg for 4 duress/ thoughtseize. My reasoning is that since you are trying to combo out, and you aren't playing blue you may have a hard time keeping your non persist creatures on the board/ not having them or your zeniths countered.. Also, while I think soul's attendant infinite life is kind of cute I don't know if it does enough as it seems like it's sort of just a stall until you find a redcap. I would cut those and add 4 makeshift mannequin for redundancy. Also I don't like the mana base... 21 land isn't enough imo with only 4 signets basically to up that count... maybe cut souls attendants for birds of paradise and maybe cut 3 basics and 2 fetch lands for some number of razorverge thickets and/or reflecting pools or filter lands.
What I really like about this deck though is the sideboard as the colors this deck uses are really well suited towards a metagame filled with faeries and valakut. I would run 4 leyline of sanctity, 4 great sable stag and maybe some number of kor firewalker for starters... but that's just me. Let me know what you think.
I strongly recommend reading these 2 articles for some perspective written in a much more eloquent form than I could ever dream of writing myself.

In my opinion the best thing you can do if you play against this person in the future is to 1) Not let him get to you. Don't let them put you on tilt. 2) When in doubt call a judge (This doesn't have to be malicious either... just politely say that you have a rules question you would like answered and go from there) 3) Make sure when you play them that there is no room for rules interpretation. (this means no shortcuts! announce everything from steps in a turn to spell targets to passing priority if all you want to play is a land... and don't let your opponent rush you through this)
At the end of the day keep a perspective on things... this is FNM,not a 5k, not the pro tour, not a GP, not worlds... we go play to have fun. There isn't much on the line except for our pride, bragging rights, and a few packs. If you aren't having fun, you're doing it wrong
Also as an aside @ The Jacob... Frost Titan's ability isn't a may ability so player 2 doesn't put it on the stack really, it just goes there automatically...(someone correct me on this if I'm wrong.. but I'm pretty sure)
2 everflowing chalice
4 preordain
3 doom blade
3 grasp of darkness
4 mana leak
2 negate
3 ratchet bomb
2 jace beleren
4 jace the mind sculptor
2 volition reins
2 wurmcoil engine
2 grave titan
1 sorin markov
4 creeping tarpit
4 drowned catacomb
4 tectonic edge
1 scalding tarn
2 marsh flats
4 island
3 swamp
4 leyline of the void
4 flashfreeze
3 vampire nighthawk
2 into the roil
2 consume the meek
Round 1
I faced off against a g/w token deck that landed a turn 3 eldrazi monument game 1 I died shortly thereafter. Game 2 jace kept him mana screwed with consume the meek putting in a lot of work. Game 3 he dropped maybe 3-4 creatures to the board and then dropped a monument. I dropped a grave titan. next turn he drops another guy and swings for about 10 or so, my turn I volition reins his monument and attack with grave titan and 2 zombies... he scoops.
Round 2
I played against a mono white aggro/ equipment build (not the mono white artifact glint hawk combo deck though). Game 1 was very long and drawn out, but in the end he got there with a landfall angel. Game 2 I dropped down an early wurmcoil engine and he wasn't able to cope.
Game 3 went to turns and the match ended in a tie =/
Round 3
Before the start of the round the judges called me over... apparently when I hastily filled out my decklist I forgot to mark down my singleton sorin markov which resulted in a game loss for me. Stupid mistake on my part... So Game 2 I quickly learned I was up against mono green eldrazi ramp which tore me apart and lead me to a quick 2-0 loss... (I was able to stabilize at 2 life for a little bit off of topdecking double volition reins but each was met shortly thereafter with an all is dust...Then came the ulamog which my only temporary out to would have been jace and then hope for a counter... or maybe triple grasp of darkness?)
Round 4
I was feeling pretty bad about how badly last round went, but 1-1-1 was still better than 1-2 so I tried to continue on. I played against u/w control lost game 1 and won game 2 on the back of volition reins on a baneslayer and several late game threats. game 3 came to turns but grave titan pushed through for lethal quick enough.
Round 5
I played against elves. It was an interesting list from what I saw it looked like a mix of a genesis wave deck and an aggro elf deck. Game 1 genesis wave for five into an eldrazi monument rocked my socks. Game 2 he had a slow start and grave titan got there. Game 3 he mulliganed down to 5 and kept on the play, but still managed to drop me all the way to 4 life before I killed him. volition reins once again was a star player stealing an elf lord to clear the way.
Round 6
U/W control again. This time with frost titans! Both me and my opponent get deck checked and wait for what seems like forever... (all I could think about were bad memories from round 3 =/ ) We play... game 1 he takes me down in the long game... I'm thoroughly out jaced and card advantage pulls through as he lands 2 baneslayers to the board with me helpless. I top deck a volition reins at 2 life and run it out into the inevitable counter and then scoop. Game 2 I stick a jace and then volition reins his baneslayer. I get 1 attack in before he ousts his slayer and drops a 2nd slayer I respond by a wurmcoil engine and have jace to out race him. Game 3 goes to time but he gets board position on me and ends up having more counters. Baneslayer and an active colonade get there against me
Round 7
I realize at this point I can't make top 8 but since top 16 still get prizes I figured I'd give it my best shot. And once again I'm paired against u/w control. This time it's a build with vensers, glimmerpoint stags, elspeths, and gideons. Game 1 I resolve a turn 6 jace with counter backup with him stuck on 4 mana only 1 of it white, with a hand full of double white cards. Jace keeps him mana screwed and I sit on my hand full of 3 more counters. Jace goes ultimate and he scoops. Game 2 we draw go for a bit and he drops a gideon out. I steal his gideon with a volition reins. He gets mana flooded I swing with gideon which he condemns and then land a jace. Jace keeps him mana flooded until his ultimate goes off. He scoops.
At the end of it all I was barely able to squeak into the top 16 (15th) so I guess it wasn't a total loss... I can also claim bragging rights as the best finish posted by my local card shop I can't say however that I was overall very happy with my play at times or with my inability to properly count to 60 but oh well... I have a lot to work on.
MVP card: by far volition reins... I can't think of a time that I drew it that I a) didn't have a good target, b) didn't want it, or c) didn't have it swing the game for me even if only temporarily
Honorable mention to darkslick shores. Turn 1 dual land untapped followed by preordain on the play never looked so...well... slick!
Worst card: Sorin... he seemed ok in theory but in practice I almost always wished he was a different six drop.
I also think that ratchet bomb probably should have been sideboard with maybe something like consume the meeks main or even something like lux cannon. (but maybe I'm crazy)
I was surprised that I never ran into a single graveyard deck either fauna shaman/ vengevine, or necrotic ooze or whatever... There was also a severe shortage of people playing valakut ramp, and mono red koth decks. I don't think I would play this deck again. It isn't bad, but I just really don't like it. It always feels like I'm behind even when I'm ahead, aggro can sometimes race before I can stabilize, control can sometimes out control me, and I have a really horrible matchup versus eldrazi even without losing games to myself If elves or midrange seem to become super popular in the future maybe I'll come back to it but I think for now it's time for me to move on.
Pairs well with titans obviously or anything with an etb ability, but also pairs nicely with your own planeswalkers too... use a minus ability and stay the same
