After thinking about this, isn't it a little suspicious this gets announced right after the counterfeits post appeared? (not in conspiracy mode here, just curious as what y'all think)
No, they always run a ton of set/product announcements at the beginning of January.
Commander's Arsenal was limited to 2-4 copies per LGS, if I recall correctly.
There is nothing in this announcement that suggests any sort of ridiculous limited printing run for this product.
As much as I hate to say it, this NEEDS to include Tarmogoyf. MM didn't even make a dent in the price, and it's a gateway card for any green deck that includes creatures. They need to get its price under control.
MM was very successful at lowering the prices on many rares, but the mythics need help badly. I'm not expecting it, but still...
Pod is a green deck
This deck would need to have more than one Goyf to make any more of a dent in the supply of Goyfs than MM did.
And that is not happening.
Maro often hinted that they would do another Asian-themed plane without it being Kamigawa, so that could just be it.
Incorrect.
He actually (in a rare specific confirmation) said that in the current 7 year plan, where the final set in it will be released in 4? years, there is no Asian block.
I get the feeling WOTC don't care about us the same way they used too
And the lack of caring about the hardcore fans has led to the biggest boom in MTG's history and a huge amount of money for WOTC...
It is a numbers game.
The 'enfranchised players' are still listened to, and their issues are noted, but they are vastly outnumbered by casual/occasional players and the money they spend on the game.
Good catch.
Even more interesting would be if they did a super-secret batch of invitational cards to insert into the set, trying to make up for the lack of them in recent years by having PT champions or World Champions get cards made.
I can't wait to see the resistance to other changes M15 is implementing (which were promised in the article), if people are complaining about these frame updates.
There's nothing in the hint that even suggests FoW beyond twisting "No pain, no gain" to fit the pitch. Wondering if FoW is Standard viable is the province of Baseless Speculation or Magic General, and I would suggest Baseless Speculation.
There was a week or two where MaRo went up and down the line of people asking if FoW could be reprinted.
He said no in every possible way (Too good for standard AND modern), all for power level reasons. (He checked with the development team)
I don't understand how someone could interpret a straight no from someone who says "Maybe :)" to certain other questions as anything but a no.
How can it be anything other than Dark Confidant? They even put the crossed out "a" in confident.
Similarly, MaRo asked the Dev team about Bob, who unanimously agree that he is too good for standard.
Which makes sense, because they are printing "Boblike" cards lately, what with Duskmantle Seer, Blood Scrivener, Dark Tutelage.
Also, this has been covered a ton of times in the thread.
There isn't much more this thread is going to accomplish without more information...
I don't believe in that card guess. The flavour is off. The god mentioned in the flavour text should probably be Phenax if the card name is correct (otherwise, does Erebos seriously hold auditions, then send promising guys to Phenax?). I'd also be willing to accept the flavour text as-is if the card name mentioned Erebos instead of Phenax.
His username on here is kirin, and if you want to know how to speculate correctly, ask him. He's been right on pretty much all of his specs, including those on his old channel, newlawstudent.
Is this the guy that sings little mermaid and is a brony?
Because his speculation skills can be gained by following like two people on twitter.
Nothing to write home about, but to the average youtube commenter I guess he is a genius.
Anyway, WoTC doesn't like shuffling in magic.
Many people don't like fetches even existing in modern. 10 fetches in modern would be just gross.
Wizards has also stated they are "scaling back" the power of dual lands, with RTR being a high point, to expect the fixing to be kind of weak for awhile after.
Zendikar fetches are a lock for MM2. 150%.
There is no current type of product to support the Onslaught fetches, but honestly, there is no need to reprint them, because they only 'help' legacy at this point.
I wouldn't be *surprised* if they reprinted fetches, but there are quite a few reasons against it IMO.
I'd like to know where these clues are coming from.
Also of note: Elspeth is not the only Champion on Theros. Several Flavor texts refer to a Champion from an Illiad/Odyssey like text called The Theriad. There could be a far flung place on Theros that has longer days/nights than others that this Champion visited. Figured I'd bring that up since, as has been stated, there's no evidence that Elspeth has been to Lorwyn/Shadowmoor.
Really reaching there.
Whoever is spoiling these isn't leaking story/flavor things, just cards.
We already know that WotC does not consider it fine. They consider it a problem for Modern, and specifically now want 10-land dual cycles in future blocks.
No?
I think you misread my post.
Fetch lands are making modern miserable, and many arguments have been made to ban them in the format.
The format does not need more fetch lands. Wotc hates shuffling in games because it is boring and wastes time, they don't want to inject more of that into popular formats.
The dual land design is in regards to printing "only five" of a dual land cycle.
I can easily see zen fetches in modern masters two, but that's about it.
At any rate, we know the following things about this set:
-it's not top down
-it's a new plane
-it's homeless
-it's new in town
The Onslaught fetches aren't being reprinted for eternal; that's just a side-effect. It's so Modern can have access to the full range of fetches. Unless WotC decides to do an Eternal Masters, which I would support, but which would only have marginal impact due to the Reserve List.
Considering fetches are a problem with ONLY FIVE in modern, I doubt they will reprint fetches in standard any time soon. If modern has 10 fetches, their manabase becomes like legacy, except...no wasteland to punish people for being greedy.
Also, this set is confirmed to be a new plane anyway.

Because that is what the rumor is.
The actual definition of casual is. (not regular or permanent)
Magic has a different definition of that though, which makes it very hard to explain the playerbase in normal terms without confusing people.
It is a numbers game.
The 'enfranchised players' are still listened to, and their issues are noted, but they are vastly outnumbered by casual/occasional players and the money they spend on the game.
The bottom left of the card is now "machine readable".
If anything is being scanned, it is that.
Good catch.
Even more interesting would be if they did a super-secret batch of invitational cards to insert into the set, trying to make up for the lack of them in recent years by having PT champions or World Champions get cards made.

They do.
They will probably do a bunch of product announcements and might launch the minisite or something on Wednesday.

5 in BNG, 5 in JOU
People honestly didn't expect this to be a mythic rare 15 card cycle?
It is extremely cut and dry...
Really reaching there.
