Neither one would look out of place in a modern Magic set. That said, the first one slightly edges out for me, simply because the defensive body feels more white, and enabling attacks feels more red. Historically that effect has been in white but there's no reason why it couldn't be red, or why it shouldn't be. I think the reason it's appeared in white is because white has the bulk of defenders and walls. But if there's a defender theme for red in an environment, it makes perfect sense in that color.
It's a little interesting to me that the elf inventing the teleporter is GU. Not colours I would have expected of an artificer.
It makes sense from the context of the story. She's a scientist through and through, but her inspiration for her work comes from her faith in the aether of the world personified as a directive force with a greater plan. It's a very green sort of spirituality, and it's a great example of how green philosophy doesn't have to be at odds with technology.
No black cards and only one green card - a little disappointing. Although it's interesting to me that the green card creates and artifact creature token, that's a little unexpected. It lends credence to the theory that Saheeli might be GU (which NO ONE even considered before Wednesday's story article)
She's definitively blue-red, though, go peek at the PAX thread to see for yourself.
Yup - I posted that before I saw the card. It's a little weird because Red doesn't tend to hold back and in Wednesday's story she refused to help with the invention because it was "too dangerous".
Her reasons for not supporting her friend's work were in part because she worried about the dangerous implications, but also because she really was jealous. It was clear from her thoughts that she felt this way even though she denied it. She let her emotions dictate her actions and betray her own principles.
Super interesting design. You get your choice between a toned-down Pathbreaker Ibex or a Wild Beastmaster that comes with friends. Without the reminder text, though, I'm unsure of whether you're also able to mix-and-match and make one token and keep one counter, or if it has to be all one way or the other. I'm assuming the latter is true for simplicity's sake.
For real though, I'm a bit skeptical that we'll have a high enough density of really good Vehicles to make even a Depala deck built around them worth it for anything other than flavor goals. The flagship is cool, but if that's the absolute top end in this set I don't think the archetype will have what it takes. I'm gonna play the hell out of some Pilots in draft, though.
It doesn't have metalcraft for the same reason Tireless Tracker doesn't have landfall. It means there aren't a large number of cards with the mechanic in the set, possibly just this one, so it isn't considered a set-wide mechanic or theme.

Which shows more cards to be revealed along with new story articles, presumably. Does this mean we'll continue to get story at an accelerated rate, to fit all these chapters into the preview season?
Well, obviously not Dovin. We know almost nothing about Saheeli yet, much less whether she'd be interested in joining or not. And the only other confirmed characters thus far are already members.
I'm just confused on Gideon saying he was "new" in Ravnica. Wasn't he fighting for the Boros for a while (During the BFZ storyline?)
Fighting as a soldier for the Boros is pretty different from performing an investigation on behalf of the Azorius, I'd imagine. Also he was turning on the charm for Lavinia, so maybe he exaggerated a little.

1) This is ridiculous, nobody actually talks or acts like this.
2) This is a perfectly accurate depiction of myself.
