hmmm, imagine this with Oracle of Mul daya, potentially fixing it into an always 5/5 (unless you reveal niether a land or creature of course). I think it'll see play in Mono Green and/or ramp decks alot. I want four just to see how the metagame goes and if big early swings are becoming rarer (which is looking to be more and more the case excluding god Llanowar/archdruid/kahlni hydra hands xD)

Um, has anyone thought of this in Jund as an angry beats? LAND-- Bloodbraid elf -- Garruck -- LAND-- Putrid Leech -- pulse. i mean, you would basically restock your board with it anyway, obviously the drawback being that you can't cast anything for a long time from your hand, but then again, you keep cascading and casting, it'll get to be a definite threat. And maybe this with Abyssal Persecutor? i think this card will be nuts (Oh and possibly black/ green Eldrazi Ramp deck?) I want 4 for giggles XD

All talking about the chronologist being awesome.

it is damn slow, so while it's a very powerful card, it's very far from game breaking or...awesome.. Since mana could be spent only as sorcery, u need to spend it on your turn only.

    This means
    1. You tap out each turn to lvl it up to max, hoping your opponent has no removals at all.

    2. You leave mana open for counters, or play other creatures and lvl it up sooooo slowly that by the time it's lvl 7 u already won/lost.

What i find...AMAZING is Emrakul, the Aeons Torn. It cost 15 but with th e mana acceleration, thanks also to the new Wall, you could cast it faily easily.

IF this guy is casted.....the game is OVER. There is NOTHING the opponent can do if you spend 15 mana ....... NOTHING.

    It cant be countered.

    You take an extra turn.

Protetcted form COLORED spells (AKA every removal spell)

    Annihilator 6.

So, the only way to kill it is a Wrath Effect. But wrath is a sorcery so, before you can play it, it will attack you, destorying 6 permanentes and killing something/someone.

Imagine this guy in a Summoning trap/Polymorph deck. You wont take the Extra turn but, if your oppoennt doesnt have a Wrath, is GG for you, even more than Iona.

Hmm... The Big dude in a polymorph deck with it as the only creature, and runnning token spells (join the ranks and Dragon Fodder) to sac. XD XD omg gg ppl, gg

Again, I know the deck is gross and topdecks like a cute, drunk girl at the end of the night but I don't think complaint is a legit strategy.

...Wait, complaining about the cute topdecked girl or about Jund :-P? Srsly this is probably the more intelligent posts I've seen. I mean no matter how good/bad the deck is, it will have counters to it. Spread 'em and RDW cane it sideways. But on the same token it is very competitive and will see alot of play. Also you have to take in your opponents skill, sure there are "noobs" running Jund, fine whatever I've seen the same kids running Zoo, probably an even easier deck to use, losing, where I've seen several people who use Jund effectively and they are nearly invincible (well except against me, i run a Jund Anti-mirror >:->).

Now you have to ask yourself, is it the deck or the person making it work? because I've seen the same people win with Elfdrazi, RDW 5cc, Fairies, and Standard Grixis Dredge (or whatever it's called).

Oh and Jund rotates out in abut 6 months nyways, so why worry? :-P

  • posted a message on B/W Abyssal Control
Hi, new to this, so I'll try and be as informative but if i miss anything let me know xD. Basically, this is the toy deck I've been building recently, it runs around creature removal and sweepers to deal with both your opponents aggro but also your own Abyssal Persecutor. (btw i don't know how to link and have the name so just listing card names atm xD)

Kay, i need to point out a few things first off
1: this deck is very WIP so tear it to shreds except for the following

2: i don't own BSA. I don't have the money for them, nor the trades, nor patience of opening booster boxes. I would like to run them, (subbing them over possibly the Skullers and Admonition) but i can't, so ignore them for this list XD

Now an outline: this deck is a aggro/control deck mainly designed around that awesome beatstick, Abyssal Persecutor. however, i have seen a few decks and most of them build around him, setting up combos ala Bazaar trader or running somewhat of 12 sac engines to kill him. Unlike those decks this is not per se built around him: I've tried to include him as a powerful supportor more than the main cast. no the main part of this deck is quick fast removal coupled with small weenie creatures to wear the opponent down whilst you destroy or exile their creatures. the three of Stoneforge and two collars may seem odd (a friend of mine looked at them and said "...really?") but they are a powerful mainstay of your early game. that extra few life plus the versatility or deathtouching a BSA or big dude is in-expendable.

The deck is not overly aggro though, not compared to Naya or Boros, so it's where the control side of things start up that it shines. Spotting 14 removal, 2 Anowons and the Admonition angel (who is maybe a removal, if you ever get enough land, like i said WIP xD) it can easily lock the board down to allow your bigger beef to assault your opponent.

the sideboard is also weird, but very necessary. obvioulsy i don't need to explain Rot or Purge, but its the Seraph and Silence that need to get mentioned. the sereph is to go in over Abyssal persecutor when against Control or RDW. simple. though i originally wanted to run Emeria here i thought the extra toughness and damage prevention may be useful in these matchups. Silence is designed as a stall against Jund, stopping them on their 4th turn, denying their precious blood braid into Blighning for a turn so to allow a more stable board position/ hand size.

.... Whew, well i explaied (kinda) how i think this deck should run, now to let you people tear it apart :-D. Every insight is very welcome here. Thanks! oh and i haven't even tried to balance the land yet lols, but it seems fine to me atm lols

Hey there do you mind sharing your decklist for the b/w deck? I'm kinda interested in it since you claim that it has good matchups against nearly half of the meta in T2 now. I'm planning on building my own b/w deck and would like to have your deck as a reference.

    Thanks a bunch

Yeah, same PM me it too sounds awesome xD. Maybe it could become a serious contender this coming season

hmm, new idea, Black/White weenie-to-face deck. Abyssal filling in top spot with Rangers, 4 DoD's, 4 Journeys, 4 O rings, 4 Path, Scullers, Vanguard, Death's Shadow even(for the lols). Hmmm, me thinking big nowe. oh nd of course BSA's XD

okay. easy example, imagine BSA and AP on the same battlefield. We'll rate them as the best two cards out, but the reason it will never get high in price is because of the reigning girl herself. It's apparent lack of cost is her pro AP ability. but, once lights comes in and the cards go away, then like you say, AP should become better.

But Lights will also weaken AP.

Imagine, your running your AP in a deck, with vamps and such, after shards is gone.

How will you remove it? how will you win the game from there? assuming of course you saved your third turn tempo advantage god, Gatekeeper, to kill it off? what happens if they cause you to discard it? What happens if they counter it? it is a card that relies on your deck to either build around or have some form of tolerance for its drawbacks with.

Sorry to sound pessimistic, but the only way to run it at the moment is /with/ all the removal shards has given us ala terminate, bone splinters, flesh bag etc. So the conversation is moot to say that /just/ because it has the same "weaknesses" of BSA that it is just as good, same with saying that /just/ because JwarJwar has shroud and BSA doesn't that you can mock a valid point. Baneslayer is good because you play it in an aggro deck that forces them to remove your threats or die, then dropping it and winning, blazing past EVERY finisher in standard that i can think of (Broodmate, Abyssal, Karrthus, and the Sphinx)

And don't believe that because i am saying this i dislike AP, no far from it i an Playtesting him as we speak, i love the card down to his scary scowl to his awesome flavor text, and i definitely seeing him get some play in the future.

Now, to answer your previous post, Magic is a game of Matchups. Rock scissors paper, etc. So, to imagine it as a simple "bloodwitch is worse" scenario is very counter productive. you have to imagine it as a full complex level. I dont know if you play tourneys or not, and i assume you do, but in those situations Bloodwitch is situationally better, whilst AP is in others. Bloodwitch degates the two best spells out for the biggest deck around other than jund ATM, which is Naya. AP, on the other hand, is both path-able and BSA neutralised. I mean, would you swing into a BSA with it? now, imagine a different Matchup aka the Mirror, which you seemed to regard as the way to iew things. Bloodwitch would lose, painfully. Simple. Its more expensive, weaker and has abilites that won't really help it. Now imagine Cruel VS both. AP punches through Sphinx whilst being cheap enough to possibly avoid a stable lockdown of counter.

The point i am making is thus: AP is a good card, but so is Malakir Bloodwitch. Sphinx is too, and BSA is as well. And AP has a bad drawback. There, a good valid statement. Easy, no?

Edit: and my goodness that is the longest rant i have ever had, text based or not XD

well the bloodwitches' Pro White makes it powerful, it survives most good spot removal out atm (O ring, journey, path etc) and can essentially nullify a BSA by itself. AP is IMO a great card, however the reliance of getting your own removal out is a big downside, something alot of previous pages worth of commentors have said. Still, I'd run it.

Funny story, second game against Cruel control, my friend played Thought hemorrhage twice in a row, stripping my deck of removal XD i got destroyed my 3 cruels in a row down the track cause AP couldn't die XD
