The only cards there I'd consider to be good in a black weenie deck dedicated to fast kills are Bile Urchin, Maggot Carrier, Cruel Deceiver (if I'm going to have the Top in the deck anyway), Cutthroat, Skullsnatcher, Spineless Thug, and Wicked Akuba. The rest are a bunch of one or two mana creatures with one power and useless or expensive abilities.
They do use the stack. As they are activated abilities, very few cards can counter them(I think the only ones are Stifle, Squelch, Bind, Interdict), and even fewer can redirect them(offhand, only Willbender). They do retain the color and other characteristics.
Interdict can only counter activated abilities of permanents, so that wouldn't work.
Anyone else think it's rather unfair to expect a bomb like the Jitte in every set's precons? I mean, these are supposed to be cheap decks that new players can use to form the basis of real decks....
I'm amazed at the disparity of opinions on this card. It's been called "a 25 cent rare" right after being called "better than armageddon". I don't think any other card has ever drawn this kind of reaction.
“I’ve traveled much in my search for Sakashima, learned many things. One of them is recognizing certain… qualities.” Hojo paused as the nezumi squirmed. “You’re ninja, aren’t you? Okiba-Gang? That’s why you’ve traveled so far away from Takenuma – I hear Marrow-Gnawer started a purge of your kind recently.”
Well, now we know why there are no ninjas in this set.
Why...would Wizards make Sweep a keyword? Is there something wrong with "As an additional cost to play ~, return X plains you control to your hand. Target creature gets +x/+x until e.o.t." I mean....why?
Well, to play devil's advocate for a second, the 'free' ability need not restrict players to monocolored play. Say a white creature cost , but had 'chutzpah' for 3 blue mana. The creature is cheaper if you play with both colors, but is a bit worse in monowhite. For that to work, the ability would need to have an 'if you control a plains...' type restriction to keep players from playing off-color spells for free. But if the block indeed focuses on two-color pairs, this ability could be worked into it as a benefit for playing both colors in a pair.
This is probably the best way to make this a multicolor mechanic.
Didn't Wizards purposefully deny that Terashi would be made into a card, because he's just so powerful? So unless they did all that just so we wouldn't spend months coming up with concept cards potentially better than what they did...
Black Knight is way too strong for a black weenie. Two mana 2/2 first strike with pro:white? Compare that with other black 2 mana creatures; the best I can think of is Nantuko Shade, which beyond being a rare would also die in combat to the knight unless you pay an extra
Critical mass = more ki counter guys, I think.
Counters build up on those guys until they "explode" (hit critical mass), at which time some big effect happens.

Proof? Where?
