Jace, the Mindsculptor is responsible for the first time that I have ever been slapped in a draft. During a draft of Zen,Zen,WWK I had the misfortune of pulling a regular Jace the Mindsculptor as my rare, and a foil Jace the Mindsculptor as my foil. Never before have I ever considered pulling out of a draft before that; but, alas, the person I'm passing to is my friend, so oh well.
With a tear in my eye, I pass the cash. My friend looks me in the eye as I sadly eye him, and then he slaps me. HARD.
"Why would you pass a jace?!" he shouts, as if his slap hadn't already disrupted the draft enough. Sadly, I pick up my foil jace and show it to him. He was then given a warning for being disruptive and the judge bought me a coke.
As for episode 9 Saber had the best summoning ever and what they did to Rider was enough to make me audibly gasp.
I agree with this notion. Part of the fun of building your decks for friends is the fact that you get to metagame them. That means putting in more mana rocks against land-stax and packing more instant removal answers for troublesome creatures (although, that's a given for 90% of metagames).
On the other hand OP, have you considered slow rolling it as an answer? Only going for it when you're in a position to win and not using it to lock up the game until you can catch up?
If no one in your playgroup is willing to run the board wipes, you need to be the guy that steps in and acts as the fun police. U/W, U/B, American, and Esper control tend to work really well as the colors because that combines all the fun board wipes, card draws, and spot removal to shut down someone.
Edit - nvm, that was lolwiki
And then there's the whole aspect of not wanting to smite before a contested dragon/baron. I actually lost a baron because I smited the enemy jungler instead of the baron :|
I sort of agree with this, but at the same time he's such an amazingly strong card that he pretty much demands the entire table's attention. Anyone playing him early is a little crazy but at the same time he's such a beating in a smaller pod that I can see why people would be upset.
Ultimately, though, I'm only scared of tezzeret because of how absurdly easy it is for him to just tutor out a chain veil and go almost infinite
Who is your commander, Ruhan of the Fomori?
Consider Distortion Strike and Venser, the Sojourner to get your carriers through.
Talon could perma silence you.
TF never lost his tower.
Man... I miss URF mode.
I dunno about metalworker. It's surprisingly not as scary as I thought it was going to be. Most of the time, that Kozilek or Karn deck is going to barf its hand onto the table anyways - and infinite +1 mana is still absurd. While it's true that Metalworker gets Kozilek onto a table pretty fast, it's equally true that it slows down your board play when you're using kozilek because you're running ~50% mana rocks anyways.
