My take is that a true RPG involves the player assuming the role of a character. Their own character, and not a pre-created character. This is the classic D&D model from which the term was coined, I believe.
So, a game in which everyone plays the same character would not be a true RPG, even though the character might evolve differently for different players.
Oh man, do I have to be the one to bring up the religious angle? Not looking forward to that...
I think we are more than just animals (hey, where's my button for italics?). I mean, Stax is obviously correct that, when used as a scientific term, the word animal includes us, but I do believe we are distinct.
Call it what you will--a soul, sentience, spirituality--but there is something which makes us unique and deserving of a classification separate from ordinary animals. I'm not sold on the whole Biblical "created in God's image" position, but since I do believe in God, I also believe he created us differently. How or why this is so I can't explain, and (as has been demonstrated in the past) can't really be effectively debated.
My best guess as to our "role," is that we are here to learn and experience life (not necessarily in that order). Possibly it has something to do with love.
All right why not. I'm Matt. The real Matt. Call me Matt and ljoss, ljoss.
Come on, how can his name be Matt if his screenname is ljossberir? That makes no sense!
Hey there! So I finally figured out how to upload my old avatar to this site, but now it seems a little small compared to everyone else's. Can you resize it? Do you need the original pic? The image is hosted at http://images5.theimagehosting.com/gunnar2.gif
Also, I would like to try one of those banner things. I don't have a pic in mind, just something with my screenname and a cool background (could even be just colors I suppose) Whatever you could do would be appreciated.
Let me just say it's awesome that you are posting here R_E, for however long it lasts. You were the main reason I joined News in the first place (though now I have a couple of other reason to hang out there.)
This card looks sweet. White has needed something like this for a long time. Still not Wrath, but getting closer...
Well I'm here. Found this through Misetings of all places. Can't truly say that I'll always be around, but I'm impressed with all the MTGNews regulars that have already signed on. Anyway, just saying hi.

Okay, that's enough of that.
Very nicely done.

Or you can just say Axelrod (Axel, Ax, whatever).
