Why are you people trying to add all kinds of weird cards that don't help this deck do what it is trying to do??
Ball Lightning, Elemental Appeal, Pyromancer Ascension, Khalni Gem, Zektar Shrine Expedition, Blitz Hellion, Font of Mythos, splashing ANY third color etc. etc.
A lot of you are thinking too conventionally about the "ramping" that we are doing. We are not trying to get mana quickly, we are trying to get LANDS quickly.
I really wish we could focus on tweaking and perfecting what we already know works instead of everybody trying to fit their own terrible pet card into the deck.
This.
everyone seems to forget that this deck can win consistently and consistently fast... putting in excess just because you want to get in a little more damage earlier (which in turn is actually slowing you down) is just defeating the purpose.
Big enough that when i say, "I play magic," people don't look at me and i have to say, "Like pokemon... for adults." also... big enough that people don't assume i also L.A.R.P. (god no.)
I think Specularon meant "Is Mill a better match-up for UW than UWr?"
actually it kinda just looks like he meant jace 1.
As for this deck... i don't think a lot of people realize this is a more complicated deck and you have to know how to play control. it's not like this deck will straight play itself.
I disagree. Just look at Ravnica. There was no world-shattering threat there, in fact very little overarching plot at all, but it's still widely held as one of the greatest flavor successes in the game's history. The reason why is that it focuses on what Magic is best at -- exploring and revealing a unique setting and the places, things, and people that exist within it.
What's important to remember here is that card sets aren't novels or films; they aren't designed to tell a linear story and don't need to stick to the same traditional narrative structure. By exploring different parts of a largely static world, Ravnica offered something quite interesting in terms of flavor without having to resort to a trite "ZOMG THE WORLD'S ENDING" plot. I'd like to see a lot more of that, with blocks that treat the setting itself as interesting enough that a world-ending threat isn't needed.
This.
If all we have is INEVITABLE DOOM!M!!! every set... what's the point? I liked ravnica because it did explore deeper than just an impending doom and showed us a world of class, nobility, and structure. We can all explain the hierarchy of Ravnica just by playing the game opposed to Shards where we cannot tell you the hierarchy, history and such.
I would be very much in favor of just another Ravnica-ish block where we didn't have to worry about some world ending storyline, but maybe a feud between tribes or more personalized problems to their world and not the MULTIVERSE as a whole.
So, I've been playing vampires since ZEN was released and I've been following this thread ever since. Jund has always been an auto-lose for me (minus land screw), and is why I've never been able to take the top places at FNM (it's all I can afford to do for now). And, since I know several others want to know the same, what's the general play strategy against Jund? Play aggressive and fast, or slow and conservative?
You try to out run Jund and use Grim Discovery and Mind Sludge to make their 2-for-1's useless.
This.

Also, What is going on in the promo for White? are those zendikar ruins opened and disintegrate?
actually it kinda just looks like he meant jace 1.

hahahaha i'm amazed as well. I do support the staff and the things they do, but i rarely see others.
Yeah.. if you have 0 life.
That's why if you're against Jund... you blow up their lands.
This.

If you even run mind rot, it's just 10x better than this in almost every situation.

We should have someone in the sig shop revamp it... maybe a new one every set pertaining to that set?
