I'm surprised that everyone seems to be heavily invested in the opinion that the value of non-foil damnations will drop heavily on the release of this promo.

Making a few assumptions, I have come to the conclusion that the value of a non-foil damnation will only change by 20% or so.

The assumption: The behavior of Damnation will heavily resemble Wrath of Gods (9th edition) following the release of the promo.

Using the data on www.apathyhouse.com/mtg we can see the historic trends on non-foil 9th edition wrath of gods. Before the first mailing, they were worth around $8.50. Now they're worth 9.50. The mailing impacted the foil value, dropping it $20. It did not move the non-foil values.

Now, the value of damnation may (or is, in my opinion) inflated due to a smaller available supply (contrasting it with Wraths which number something approaching tens of thousands) so the release of the FOIL damnation WILL alter the value, but why would it drop the value of the non-foil one? There is a reason everyone doesn't play foils - a large portion of players just don't care for them.

Looking at the data for Psionic Blast, we can see how its price changed following the release of its textless partner. It dropped from an ebay average of $10 to $5. 50% of its start value. This is due to the textless promo being a perfect substitute for a non-foil version. There is no difference.

A foil damnation, however, appeals to a much smaller portion of the player base. Sure, it have a large value to it, but how many people would readily play the foil textless instead of the non-foil. In my local play group I know numerous players who decided to trade off the foil version for non-foils because they preferred the non-foils.

Just my 2 cents, but I cannot imagine a non-foil damnation dropping below $13 after the mailings. I expect a foil damnation to drop to the 18-22 range.

Nope, I didn't receive this in the mail. A friend of a friend on IRC somehow acquired one or acquired a photo of one and I ended up with the photo.

I suspect that these should be mailed out / arriving at houses within the next week.

    The title says it all.

    FOIL ***, baby

I received the image from a friend on IRC.
Yawgatog helped me figure out that it was the MPR promo, not a future judge promo

The collector's number appears to be 1/7 P07 which matches the formatting for the last season of MPR (Magic Player Reward) Promo cards.

You do realize he was joking around, right?

What he said was entirely in jest, poking fun at people saying 'X kills magic' 'Y kills magic' and he even said that it was a joke in his article.

    One thing:

People keep talking about how it would be broken if this card allowed you to play Sorcerys at instant speed.

Two (sort of) cards exist to do that.

    Vedalken Orrery and Quicken.

So the fact that this card for the repeated investment of mana is broken because it allows you to repeatedly play sorcerys as instants isn't that good of an argument

I think I remember someone official saying that the 9th ed foils would use the sunburst foil style.

that doesn't look like the JSS Assassain or Slith Firewalker to me...

The problem is that while the spoiller and all card data / images might be on MODO, at this point in time they would be stored server side. Unaccessable until they issue an update at which time all the relivent files will be copied to your computer.

Until then, we're SOL on getting the spoiler that way.

I saw waht happend on SCG.com when there was a set number of posts required to get a custom title or a coloured name - lots of spam.

People were creating threads that had more posts then views, flame wars over spam....

    Bad Mojo, indeed.

If I had a vote, I'd cast it for custom titles for all.
