Thopter Assembly seems like a questionable choice. You play it (first turn), it gets returned in exchange for little thopters (second turn) and then you finally get to attack (third turn). Slow. That said, just about any 6-drop fatty should do the trick.
Yeah, extremely slow, but it's what I have for now (it could also be pretty decent defensively speaking).
9th out of 28. If I'd played a bit better vs tempered steel I probably woulda gotten in the money
I'll be taking this build, tuned a bit to GenCon for some random Win-A-Boxes and the like! I'll report any hilarity I run across.
Do you think your list would work reasonably well with the Spawnsire switched out for another Wurmcoil Engine (I might have to use a Thopter Assembly until I obtain another Engine though...)?
That's 61 so I think I may be mis-remembering my mix of claps and engines or my land count. I'm upping the Mystifying count as I get them (probably dropping Tec Edges), moving a Tezz Gambit out for a Key and looking to squeeze Blue Sun's Zenith in. I sided in a one-of (my sideboard is pretty terrible at this point) and was really happy with how it performed.
Oh and I'm going to take out another Gambit for a second Spawnsire. Its just great getting to Vindicate, Draw Four and Time Walk at instant speed.
In old sets, White was good, and black was evil. Depending on how close you were to one of those two factions on the color wheel typically defined how good or evil you were.
That's just patently untrue. Kamigawa, for example, had a white villain and a black hero.
What about some sort of "grave lands". Lands that has some mechanic when they are in the graveyard. Like "Exile Grave-filled plains from your graveyard, add WW to your manapool".
That would be cool. Broken?
That would mean ridiculous first-turn plays with Entomb-type cards.
I wonder if it's too early for an Unearth comeback, perhaps with a twist. I mean, we saw the return of colored artifacts in New Phyrexia and Exalted (kinda) in Mirrodin Besieged (battle cry). Although a straight-up reprint from Alara block really isn't likely at this point, Corpse Connoisseur is very cool conceptually, albeit not very powerful. Additionally, it could definitely work with a Victorian theme, ala Herbert West–Reanimator.
Edit: Flashback and Unearth in the same set might be overkill.
Although it does seem an underlying Zombie theme is approaching, maybe its time for the Bridge to come back.
They printed a ridiculous amountofZombies in M12, and there's that nifty Flashback card that's been leaked, so I could see Zombie tribal being an interesting deck, just from the few cards we've seen so far. Bridge From Below would just seal the deal.
Tombstalker and Bitter Ordeal seem like obvious choices: both are Future Sight cards with graveyard-related mechanics. Bridge From Below seems interesting, although not as likely.
No, I certainly won't disagree that two-color is the best way to go here. I love the idea, I was just throwing out the monocolor idea as another option. Some people really like the moncolor flavor thing.
And the Ravnica Guild legendaries are the perfect place to start too. I really like your choices.
I was considering using Niv-Mizzet for a while, but it seems like he'd lend himself mostly to really one-dimensional decks. Have you had any experience with him?
Ended up getting another Wurmcoil. Couldn't justify paying $20 for a players of Mental Misstep though, as tech as that card is.
What are some other bits of tech that work well in this deck other than Mindslaver and Metamorph?

How did you place with that deck?
