Well, I do not know whether it has been mentioned or not in this thread, but if this card is really a pre-release card, there would be two versions of art. Check this:

It would be alot easier to discuss stuff in here if we had more people...sadly,we don't. Storyline Discussion is one of very few areas that 'News still beats out Salvation in. Frown

Many of the storyline gurus (especially from G.A. :() did not come here. Zazdor. Gelcur. Rand. Ix came, but only in a limited extent. The storyline forum on News (and these people) are things that I sorely miss.

So any discussion of the storyline? Anybody feel strongly about something, besides edgecrusher?

I'd be happy to discuss more, but unfortunately I have to wait until the Guardian actually comes to me - physically. That means, I must wait for the official release date to get a Fat Pack (as usual).

    1. Bad art, not fitting to the Kamigawa ogre style but neither does Ogre Recluse)
    2. Lame name for a legend
    3. Ridiculous power-level, compared to Hidetsugu
    4. INCREDIBLY lame flavor text
    5. Orb disagreement

    SUMMARIZED: FAKE

    Ta-da!!!:lock:

You suck at lecturing, Anus. Don't bother trying anymore.

To summarize it: We like the books because of Toshi and the overall flavor and style of McGough's writing. You do not like it, because as a man who is educated in creative writing, you cannot endure the feeling of reading a potentially good book ruined(in your opinion) by a badly made main character. Opinion versus opinion. There is no objective measure, only subjective ones. We will continue to like them, you will continue to hate Toshi. See you, edge, for now - we'll meet again discussing about Ravnica.

    Howgh.

I think that he would be able to copy the creature type (in addition to being still a shapeshifter) and abilities of legendary or nonlegendary creatures. Looking at his story, he can change identity repeatedly, so the Clone legendarization would not fit the flavor.

First off you make it sound like Toshi killed those orochi in one fell swoop, when in reality he had to spent hours making bird kanji while the orochi were catching up to him. When he asked for silence it wasn't like he did anything super-powerful...all he did was take advantage of the flawed way in which they communicate with their Myojin.

You were very generous in your list of people Toshi is physically stronger than. Kiku and Marrow-Gnawer both use melee weapons like Toshi does, but theirs aren't as defensive as the jitte. I'd say between the three of them there isn't much difference in physical strength. Also, considering that Pearl-Ear doesn't even fight its not that effective to compare her to the protagonist. Michiko has god-like powers by the end of Guardian. Konda could snap Toshi or any other human in half given the chance. Uyo doesn't engage in hand-to-hand combat but rather uses dreams. Chiyo simply was too arrogant to pay attention and Toshi got the upper-hand. If Toshi was really so powerful why would he let Kobo do all the fighting for him in Outlaw, or get captured by Orochi in Guardian? Hidetsugu picks him up and crushes Toshi in his hand as he pleases. At the end of Guardian Chiyoeasily puts Toshi in a near-death condition and he doesn't have any natural way out, proving just how much Toshi is of average strength in comparison to other characters.

In the end what really sets Toshi apart is his ability to think on his feet, thrive under pressure, and keep a calm yet cynical attitude. Super-powerful? Not really. Clever and opportunistic? Hell yeah. I don't know about you but I'm tired of these self-less do-gooders who have some sort of obligation to be a hero. Toshi just wants to look out for #1, which is a rare and refreshing trait among heroes in the Magic storyline. His personality just seems so...real. :cool3:

Again I must say: words of pure gold. Edge just irrationally hates the books and though his arguments are logical and well-designed, they are too clouded by his negative emotions.

edge: Would it not be simpler to say that you do not like these books at all, instead of the still repeated old arguments? You were attacking McGough's style after Heretic, and you are doing it again. I like the story so far, and I am looking forward to read Guardian myself. I have no problem with Toshi's near-invincibility. He pays for it. I like him as I did like Chainer.
Hidetsugu not almighty? I can say that I wondered reading the scene of Minamo battle. Keiga the Tide Star was defeated quite easily, don't you think?

Any ass he ends up kicking is due to him being clever, not being the superhuman you make him out to be.

    Excellently said.
