Hey gents,
well, I have returned after what must be a 3 set Hiatus(was around during the Shards block, bought some Vampires during Inistrad but nothing since) and got familiar with my old decks a couple of week sago at a friend's going away party. Playing again reminded me of how much I love and missed the game so I'm hoping that Salvation is still the awesome community I remember it to be.
wow!
here i was looking to tweak my own Lyzolda EDH deck and BAM i fall onto yours. I know this may sound like a dumb question but how do you play it in EDH multiplayer? because that's something I've had a lot of difficulty with...
Bryndon: your articles keep me coming back to MTGS and these forums.
with that being said, I was wondering if in your 9 remaining articles you might cover a little bit on the phases and EDH.
i've been trying to get a Lyzolda, The Blood Witch EDH deck running with very little success to date and only came to realize today that playing it in a certain way may just increase my chances at victory.
specifically: main phase 1: play very little spells unless i have to
combat: attack all out(ish, depending on situation)
main phase 2: deal more damage by sacrificing tapped red/black creatures to lyzolda and drawing cards.
going to give it a shot, but i'd love to read about it through these articles of yours!
one of the better articles i have read on this site in months!
keep it up! i'm looking to build myself(or rebuild) an EDH deck that can compete. my last one introduced me to the format and was fun but its getting killed so we need something fresh to bring to the table.
questions:
security code?
and what kind of level of competitiveness are we talking about here? because id love to test out a deck idea and finally learn how to sideboard properly but to get squashed each and every match wont exactly help lol
If you are really set on R/W and are on a budget, you could try a goblin build. Run Plateau and/or Sacred Foundry so that you can splash removal like Path to Exile and Disenchant.
The problem is that Red is really good at what it does, which is going fast. Adding White doesn't help Red go any faster. What White does is to give Red some more control options such as flexible removal spells. Unfortunately, this serves to slow Red down a little, which isn't good.
On the other hand, just because R/W isn't played in Vintage now doesn't mean it can't be. The two colors have a great set of efficient answers that work well against many decks. Depending on your local metagame, you might have some success with a R/W control deck.
well, ive got a sort of budget build in the works. ill post it at a later time and we'll see how it does next saturday!
If you want to build a competitive deck then check out the boards here or on themanadrain.com
Be warned though, they'll probably have a fairly high initial cost if you've never played vintage.
yea i spotted that.
but i did find this little gem over at magic vortex. and aside for reworking the mana base and throwing in some lightning helixes instead of the incinerates: http://www.magicdeckvortex.com/DDB/deathrender_beats.htm
Yeh... Red and White are the least played colors in Vintage. A R/W vintage deck is not going to be competitive, sorry.
I think in other formats you might be able to go R/W weenie attack, but in Vintage it's just too slow/there are much better options.
ah...boo.
well then...back to the drawing board with me.
hey yall,
been playing casual for a fairly long time and just discovered that my LCS has started hosting a vintage tournament on saturday nights.
all of my decks are fairly casual but vintage legal. my problem is that their not very competitive as i build them more through themes than anything else.
a few months ago i picked up the RW planechase deck and i know RW is often regarded with some kind of respect so i'd like to ask the experienced vintage players: how would you go about a RW competitive deck for vintage?
it seems to me like the budget/casual forums are whats bothering people. and i definitely agree that dividing and subdividing hurts the community more than anything else.
so why not scrap the budget/casual forum all together?
instead: make two threads for each of the big decks. 1 deck would be for pro/tournament discussion. aka best cards regardless of the price and with no variations. the other thread for deck discussion, this is where you could throw in the variations and care about prices, FNM decks could go in here as well i would say.
and since both would be in the same forum they could both get the same sort of attention. one would be about the best possible build but the other could be for some fun discussion and idea bouncing.

See you on the forums(Casual mostly ;))

this!
and more often then not my vamp deck wins before the nocturnus ever shows itself. and thats how good decks win.
3 Mogg Fanatic
3 Bloodfire Colossus
4 Augur Il-Vec
4 Order of the Stars
3 Argivian Find
4 Lightning Helix
3 Enlightened Tutor
4 Enduring Renewal
4 Deathrender
10 Plains
10 Mountain
4 Terramorphic Expanse
now i know this is probably very very not competitive but i'd still like a look over and more importantly what sort of RW cards one could sideboard.
awesome!
ill see if i can get the decklist finished by then.
