In general, I'm still concerned about Planeswalker generals.. while none of these so far seem to be terribly powerful, Planeswalkers are harder to remove than creatures in most situations. Plus that they're just changing the rules to shoehorn in planeswalkers.. my experience with them in general has been negative. Overpowered cards like Mind Sculptor that win if you can't kill them immediately. Then stuff like Doubling Season to go ultimate immediately.. fortunately Freyalise's ultimate is fairly weak, so that's less of a concern.
I'm just going to wait and see how they affect the game. No point in getting angry with it, after all!
It's sad that things like that become necessary.. hopefully he was just in a bad mood tonight or something. I dunno.
At least I got to kill about 30 beastmaster ascension'd tokens that swung at me. That was funny. I don't think she noticed the Quietus Spike on Brigid.
I really don't understand people. First game of the night, I play Prossh and win fairly quickly. No infinite comboes, no resource denial, just pumping out tons of tokens to eat with Mycoloth and stuff. One of the guys gets so whiny about losing to Prossh that he focuses on me the entirety of the next 4 player game. I was playing Brigid, absolutely no threat to him.. he ignored doubling season, Rhys, the newer Elspeth that went ultimate automatically, etc... all so he could counter and destroy every single card I played. So, y'know, token deck went around smashing everyone. AGAIN.
Why do people get so enraged about losing a fair game with pieces of cardboard?
...are they reprinting Wurmcoil and I didn't see it?
EDIT: Ahh, on the token article. I hadn't checked those out and they aren't on the spoiler list here yet. That's great, I'd love to get my hands on some for cheap(er).
So, last night I was going through various Sidri decklists, card searches, etc to try and pin down a decklist and some fun comboes for it. This morning I look at the cards I wrote down.. there are 65 exactly. I usually default to 35 lands. I think that list is trying to tell me something...Usually I end up with more like 120-130 and then end up trimming stuff out.
Yeah, I'm definately very impressed with the cards I've seen far. Flavorful and fun! Plus some good utility cards around the board. I might end up buying all five right off the bat and that would be rather expensive.
I have a 5c Charms deck that focuses on casting a ton of spells...I usually don't play it much, and have considered scrapping it several times. I pulled it out for a change tonight and remembered why I loved it.. Cloven Casting copying a 12 mana Epic Experiment and a 15 mana Villainous Wealth two turns later.. stuff happened.
Both times I tapped out and said what I was doing, the store employee who was working in the backroom just cracked up laughing. Fun times!
And Hermes, mindslaver lock is never the solution. Stay away from the nastiness!
What kind of goodstuffs are we talking? If it's stuff like Eldrazi, running Spelljack or Bribery would punish them for relying on the big stuff. You can shut down stuff like primordials, terrastodon, or craterhoof through torpor effects.
Jeskai and Derevi rely on combat damage, right? So taxation or cards that flat out stop combat/combat damage would be good. Solitary Confinement and such.. Oloro only matters for lifegain. Either commander damage or winning through other methods works for that. I had a Obzedat deck awhile back that won through Lich and Repay In Kind for a one-shot surprise kill. Life totals didn't matter for that. Marchesa'd love Oloro too.
Prossh can be insane, especially if you go the food chain route.. worse in multiplayer games though. And for a lot of the combo/goodstuff decks I've seen, things like Stranglehold, Aven Mindcensor or the new Ob Nixilis to shut down tutors and ramp, or Torpor Orb and the new creature...Hushwing Griffin or something like that I think? Anyway, they crumple when all the tutors and ETB spam cards in their hand become dead weight. Nailing combo pieces with Jester's Cap is certainly useful too.
In general my current playgroup seems to be cool with chaos effects- forced counters aren't very fun for anyone though. Hm. Suppose it's time to just browse through all the legendaries and see if anything springs to mind.
So I've been thinking recently about making a Mishra deck for the fun of it.. not sure how viable it really is or anything, though. Anyone had experience with him?
In general I'm trying to think of a fun combo-based deck. Most of mine are aggro in one form or another. Sure the variety of aggro changes (Vorel +1 counters, karador mass reanimator, marchesa shenanigans, Prossh) but I've not really built for a full combo deck before. Anyone have suggestions on combo decks/commanders that would be fun for everyone at the table?

...mumble mumble no Jaya RAGEFACE mumble..

It was part of my first 'deck' ever, and I use that term loosely because it was more a random mess of cast-off cards nobody else wanted.
Still hoping for a Jaya Planeswalker.

I know I get annoyed when I'm completely locked out.. had someone doing that last week in fact.
