Also, I just did my grocery shopping and decided to pick up ten packs of Dragons as I had 15% off and a ton of overtime. Thought hey, got the extra money so why not? I open two Ojutais in those ten packs. I think I just hit the jackpot.
Necroskitter, bounce lands, tezzeret.. everything they're spoiling is stuff I need for decks and/or want foils of. I might have to see about picking up a box when it comes out. Heck, might even see about a release day event if there are some. This set's looking excellent.
Haha, Tainted Sigil. I've only used it once, but it's great comboed with Lich/Nefarious Lich. Draws most of your library in one shot, along with Children of Korlis.
As far as Rubinia goes, I'm afraid she's right out. I've got a Daxos deck that copies or takes from people's decks and there area a few people who ignore all other threats just to kill me when I play it. Touching people's stuff is apparently right out, lol.
I enjoy pretty much anything but stax/infinite combo. I've got voltron, pillowfort, combo, big creature smash, swarms, whatever. I just enjoy making unique decks that (hopefully) everyone else can enjoy as well.
I wonder.. would a 'toughness matters' Arcades Sabboth deck have enough support? I know there were a few cards from the new set.
I've been outright building new decks the past two months.. I've made four, I think? I blame tax returns! Vorosh Enchantress, Jaya, Brigid Equipment.. Been having a blast experimenting with new stuff. The local stores' playgroup runs anywhere from 4-12 players a night, most of which have 3+ decks, so it's a pretty extensive meta. Too bad some people just have bad attitudes.. two players new to the store showed up tonight and played a four-player pod for three games with me and the other guy. He just spent all three games whining about Iona/Avacyn/Sheoldred/etc, even called people cheaters. They may not be coming back..ugh.
At any rate, I'd like to make decks for each color combination eventually, but I'm having a hard time figuring out a bant or jeskai deck currently. Anyone have suggestions for fun decks in those colors? Fun for everyone, specifically?
Seriph, aint' no such thing as taking Spirits too far! Especially since all the spirits synergize with each other.
I wouldn't suggest Celestial, as you're a creature-based deck. However, I do run both Bounteous and Infernal in my build. As for Kyoki.. it -can- be a bomb, but in all honesty it's one of the less valuable cards in my deck. it gives them a choice on what to remove, costs 6 mana, has no evasion/protection, and require more spellcasts that turn.
Don't have a greater good myself, wish I did though.
Crib Swap is removal for opponents' creatures, not yours. Considering it exiles, it can hit the various gods and other indestructible generals, as well as negating on-death effects and giving them more stuff with Living Death/Twilight's Call/Patriarch's Bidding. (The third of which I forgot to mention- it's pretty much strictly better than living death for you).
They've been sort of my iconic deck since I started playing EDH for real, and it's definately a fun deck! I started off heavier on the soulshift cards myself originally, but started moving away from it into a more focused reanimator eventually. I dunno that the link in my sig will be accurate to my current decklist, but it should give you an idea of the differences and hopefully give you some ideas to work with! Off the top of my head though, I'd suggest the following:
Urza's Incubator Buried Alive Iname, Death Aspect, Iname, Life Aspect, and Myojin of Life's Web will enable a full deck to grave, hand, field string of plays. Descendant's Path Since these decks are pretty creature heavy and all of the same time, it can be a free card every turn. Kami of False Hope I'm shocked this isn't in yours! Between Karador and Soulshift, repeatable fogs can keep you safe from other aggro decks. Angel of Flight Alabaster One of two non-spirit cards in my current deck iirc, she's an amazing way to get cards back. Karmic Guide has been errata'd into a Spirit card. Play her to get a soulshifter, lose the soulshifter to get her! Crib Swap A Spirit card itself, comboes nicely with Flight Alabaster and the many, many cards that trigger off Spirit/Arcane casts.
Taking a quick look at my listed deck, it is rather out of date. My current iteration uses several more arcane spells and a few other changes. If you're interested I can get it updated to my current. It's been a labor of love and target of significant foiling for years.
While my playgroup doesn't have a Derevi in it, we do have Purphoros, Omnath, Skullbriar, and some others that tucking becomes really important for.. and now it's gone? This change just doesn't make sense. People are already going to be running tutors in a lot of decks because of the 100 card toolbox they can get access to; taking out commander tuck's not going to fix that. Plus, the cards that are given an insane boost by it are the ones who don't even have black in their colors for all of their tutor power. Prossh does, granted..
In terms of my decks, I can only think of two (Prossh and Daxos) that suffer particurarly from having the commander tucked throughout the game. Prossh is built to keep running just fine even without tutors, while Daxos.. he's just a silly deck, lol. The rest of mine, I use the commander as a support card and a build-around without being a crutch.
This change is just going to take away one of the few ways Red has to deal with things (Chaos Warp/Warp World) that it otherwise couldn't control, and decks that don't care about mana tax are just going to laugh as they steamroll the people who can't do anything about the commander always being active.
After several months of trying very hard not to make new decks and invest in MTG...tax returns are here! (Soon). Got cards for Jaya, Daxos, and Toshiro on the way.
I'd like to make a commander for each color set eventually.. some will likely be pauper to keep costs down and variety high. Those three will bring me to about 10 active decks though I believe.
Finally finished getting the cards together for my new Sydri deck. Made it, trimmed it (the hardest part, always!) and playtested it some. Played six games, once vs four of my other decks, and twice against my 5c spellslinger. Surprisingly, it went 5-1, even beating out Prossh (Barely... trading post for life gain saved it from goblin bombardment spam and Showstopper.) The one loss was from being land flooded vs the spellslinger deck. Can't wait to try it out tommorow.
Though I'll probably need to mention to them first, no I'm not running Latice, and no I'm not going infinite. 'cause I don't wanna be Archenemy, lol.
So satisfying making a new deck that works out as well as you'd hoped!
The amount of sheer awesome from this set is amazing. It's like every card is a winner.
Granted, containment priest will make my Karador deck sad.. but hey, so does any form of GY hate! Definately going to have to plan to buy all five decks ASAP, because they'll be making some serious changes in my current and planned decks.
