It actually does give you extra mana if you control more than one of these crossroads. Possibly okay in a singleton big-deck format like commander, but something to look at if played in other formats. One quick step towards maybe balancing and at least simplifying interactions could be to make it only trigger from your own lands. Punishing your opponents for playing sub-optimal lands seems unnecessary and teammates in formats with shared turns can give you extra mana.

R'Kadi - First, art needs credit. Learn to use google reverse image search if you are posting card renders. Just a few minutes: https://daverapoza.carbonmade.com/projects/5313374
    - You can use the +2 ability and the +1 ability, or +1 ability three times, then stop using it and have no problem as long as your opponents have no cards that can somehow add loyalty to your planeswalker. Any version of this idea needs to take that into account. For example, maybe something wordy like:

At the beginning of your end step, if you didn't activate a loyalty ability of R'Kadi this turn and/or R'Kadi has 5 or more loyalty, exile R'Kadi and he deals 10 damage to you.

The other abilities still need some balancing though.

Istvan - Uncle Istvan only prevents damage from creatures, so I would either make this only prevent damage from creatures or name this something else that is not a reference to Uncle Istvan.
    - The effects of the two 0 abilities are a little boring. The interesting part is other players being able to use one of its abilities. Maybe just iterate on that idea with a planeswalker that lets anyone use its abilities. A good ability to go with that on a black planeswalker would be partially negative abilities like "You draw a card and you lose 1 life" to hurt any player that does decide to use it.

    Ignov the Fickle 1BB ... 2BB?
    Legendary Planeswalker - Ignov (M)
Each player may activate a loyalty ability of Ignov the Fickle during their turn.
/+1\: You discard a card and you gain 1 life.
[0]: You draw a card and you lose 1 life.
\-1/: Each player sacrifices an artifact, creature, or land.
    [2]

Hard to wrap my mind around a planeswalker like this. It seems good, but not sure how strong it would actually be. Part Braids, Cabal Minion, part Phyrexian Arena. Your opponents can draw cards from it, or try to kill it in two turns hoping you don't discard a card to restock him.

Aenni - Feels like she is doing too much of the same thing. It is like the boring Chandra cards that have all straight damage abilities. Land, mana, more lands.

A variation could be to make it like Brittle Effigy.

{mana}, T, Exile CARDNAME: Exile target nonbasic land.

Avoids Crucible of Worlds on both sides.

If it was a silver-bordered card, you could replace the cost with a physical action like

    Point at CARDNAME: [effect.]

So, what's Najeela's reason? She just that popular with Warriors?

Warriors are in all colors in Battlebond. Najeela is a bit like General Tazri in that regard.

The weirdness might also be in part because black is the color that most often rewards using its own resources (lots of Swamps, lots of black mana, etc).

    - At the beginning of your end step, if ~ didn't deal damage this turn, return it to its owner's hand.

There is a lot of complexity in the other abilities, and this is the easiest place where something could be simplified. Outside of use of cards like Prey Upon, the most likely decision for triggering or not triggering is just attacking with it.

    - At the beginning of your end step, if ~ didn't attack this turn, return it to its owner's hand.

But maybe you don't need any complicated decisions.

    - At the beginning of your end step, you may return ~ to its owner's hand.
    - At the beginning of your end step, return ~ to its owner's hand.

... or just remove that self-bounce completely. Flash and the kill trigger is probably an interesting enough design.

  • posted a message on Wording Update: "add mana to your mana pool" -> "CARDNAME produces mana" ?
One side effect of purging all references to the mana pool is no simple search term to find nonland cards that produce mana. (Searching "add" hits all the many cards with additional costs.) I think that is a major knock against reusing an existing term like "Get {mana}" or "Gain {mana}." While "produce" is already used for generating mana, and only used for that, there is the slight problem people have pointed out about the source of the mana being awkward. A few people have mentioned the word "gather" as a possibility and I would like that best out the current suggestions.

    T: Gather R or G.

T: Gather two mana in any combination of colors.

    Reflecting Pool
T: Gather one mana of any type that a land you control could produce.

Whenever you tap a land to gather mana, gather an additional mana of any type that land could produce.

Whenever a player taps enchanted land to gather mana, that player gathers an additional mana of any type that land could produce.

    Spectral Searchlight
T: Choose a player. That player gathers one mana of any color they choose.

    Upwelling
Mana that is currently gathered is not lost as steps and phases end.

    Omnath, Locus of Mana
G you have currently gathered is not lost as steps and phases end.
CARDNAME gets +1/+1 for each G you have currently gathered.

Among the other adjustments I have made, I have combined "lost" and "as steps and phases end" trying to keep them together into one phrase "lost as steps and phases end", partly because there are other ways players can lose mana that are unrelated and unaffected by cards like Upwelling and it can line up cleaner with cards that add mana that temporarily is not lost.

    Mana Short
Tap all lands target player controls. All mana that player has currently gathered is lost.

    Drain Power?
Target player gathers mana from each land they control. Then all mana that player has currently gathered is lost. You gather the mana lost this way.

    Kruphix, God of Horizons
Mana you have currently gathered becomes colorless mana as steps and phases end instead of being lost.

    Shizuko, Caller of Autumn
At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player gathers GGG. Until end of turn, this mana is not lost as steps and phases end.

    Doubling Cube
3, T: Double the amount of each type of mana you have currently gathered.

    Glissa Sunseeker
T: Destroy target artifact if its converted mana cost is equal to the amount of mana you have currently gathered.

Is that "or" supposed to be "and"?

If we are discussing how systems of government align with the Magic color wheel:
    - Black-red is the color pair for anarchy and self interest.
    - Green-white is the color pair for community and working together.

I think Meteor Crater and Corrupted Grafstone are worded that way because you have to choose both the permanent/card and the color. If the first choice is already limited, then it doesn't need to be as wordy. Based on Chrome Mox, it should be okay to say "Add one mana of any of that creature's colors to your mana pool."

Some planeswalkers and legendary creatures already use pronouns like "he" and "she" instead of "it" (unless that was just something I started for my custom cards and I forgot). I think this could be tested out on planeswalkers and legends before moving to every card.

I think the main problem is not "too much flavor" but mismatched flavor when it is on spell or inanimate artifact.

    Hideaway 2:
1 (This land enters the battlefield tapped. When it does, look at the top 4 cards of your library, exile 1 face down, then put the rest on the bottom of your library, then do this again)
That is what I'd expect. Look at four, choose one, look at the next four, choose one.

But cooperation and envious are horrible abilities. A card can't just blindly copy all keywords. Without even digging too deeply into esoteric keywords, you can sideboard in a Wall to shut down your opponent's envious creatures.

This might be okay in a heavy multicolor set. If you wanted to limit it a bit, you could make, for example, the (W/U) "Enchant basic Plains or Island" so that it can't interact with nonbasic lands. That also simplifies the gameplay choices since you wouldn't be able to create any individual lands that can tap for more than three colors.

    - White can have creatures with flying anyway, and being able to block flying is just a subset of that.
    Reach is not Flying.

Skyraker Giant is a flavor based design.
Don't open cans of wurms you can't handle. Why don't all Giants have reach by this logic? Or is he particularly big, as signified by his slightly bigger attack and the name "Skyraker". By that logic, my Skyplower Fugitive Wizard is going to set the color pie on fire! Flavor base blue fire!
Reach is a subset of flying. White is the best color at blocking and it gets efficient flying and nonflying creatures. Do you seriously have a problem with a nonflying white creature being able to block a flying creature?

I also mentioned earlier when you or someone else brought up Skyraker Giant, and it was ignored, that Magic Origins was designed to be like the original Magic Alpha set where flavor played a bigger role in defining anilities. Skyraker Giant has reach because of falvor. That is a fact. That is why the card has it. And opening a can of worms is not really a problem. All they do is withe around and make a bit of a mess. When someone shakes up a can of bees and opens it, then I'll start to worry.

As I then also said, any color could probably get occasional cards with reach without really considering it a color bleed.

Timespiral block is complicated for precedent.
    - There are a lot of designs that were made as callbacks, color pie be damned. These are mostly from Time Spiral and generally the most problematic citings.
    - Other designs were made imagining what could have been possible if some past design decisions had been made differently. These are mostly from Planar Chaos and were very carefully thought out with the philosophies of the colors, but sometimes setting aside past mechanical restrictions. Some of these designs are worthwhile for adding more design space. Some might be okay infrequently but shouldn't be regularly recurring.
    - Then there were several design ideas, mostly in Future Sight but a few others like Prodigal Pyromancer, that were seeded in specifically for future use in broadening the color pie and fixing past cards.
