April Fools jokes aren't funny, especially in the competitive forums. They're obnoxious, annoying, and unprofessional.

I agree. Like I'm all for having a little fun with the forums, but it seems like this one would significantly hinder people who actually happen to want to discuss competitive extended on April 1st.

Like most MTG players, I'm INTP. Very strong I, N, and P but I kind of flirt between T and F depending on the test.

Pretty much disagree with anyone who thinks NIN's version of Hurt is better than Cash. Reznor's version was just another cliched emo "omg I want to cut myself" song. Cash gave it a much deeper, more complete meaning. If you think he was just reading the page, you probably just don't appreciate his vocal style.

That Green Day "Good Riddance" song has been so overplayed that it no longer has any emotional resonance with me.

Well the age of chip shot field goals in overtimes is over... in the playoffs. The NFL owners, in a 28-4 vote agreed to change the existing overtime rules in the playoffs to where unless the team that receives the ball first in overtime scores a touchdown (or the defense scores points), the defending team is guaranteed a possession.

Interestingly enough, the Minnesota Vikings, the latest victim of a overtime chip shot FG voted against the rule change.

I heard that the Vikings owner voted against it because he wanted it applied to regular season and post-season, not because he had any issues with the actual rule itself. I think it's pretty much win/win and can't really hurt. I'm glad to see the NFL owners being proactive about something like this that they can easily improve. I still would like to see a first to six format though.

Fiona Apple - Sullen Girl: It's about her getting raped when she was 12, which is pretty tough to top as far as sad song topics go. One of her best vocal performances too imo.

The Verve - The Drugs Don't Work: This one pretty much speaks for itself.

Harry Chapin - Cat's in the Cradle: Pretty much an auto-include for any sad songs thread. It's corny but still gets me every time.

Radiohead - Exit Music (For a Film): Obviously many Radiohead songs could be listed, but I always found this one the most moving.

Portishead - Roads: Any song by them could be listed, but this one is especially depressing. (EDIT: Didn't see this was mentioned already -- good call.)

Cat Power - I Don't Blame You: Allegedly about Kurt Cobain, I think it really captures that depressed rock star thought process well.

So it would be a suicide, then?

I would probably say everything that I've ever wanted to say to a lot of people.

The good things I would have to say would be said face to face before I passed. The bad things, however, would be sent via letter after I had died, preferably during the funeral and in secret. I want my funeral to be as awkward and confusing as possible.

Such an easy joke but I still laughed a lot. Well played.

I would probably just write something for family and friends and notify them, then perhaps go out in a blaze of glory with an entertaining suicide of some kind.

I'm aware that there was lots of sex and violence in Rome (was not aware of the profanity though). It can still be gratuitous, since basically the show's entire selling point is for horny men to see some boobs (and the occasional random dong shot) and comical action scenes. If you're trying to argue the show is realistic, I have to seriously question your judgment.

That said, I didn't mean to say that the show is unwatchably bad. I think they deliberately have made it really stupid and corny and it works on that campy level.

This is one of the worst shows I've ever seen, but it's kind of enjoyable in a campy way which is obviously what they were going for. The dialogue is just hilariously bad (I laugh whenever an ancient Roman drops the C word) and the sex and violence is so gratuitous. The acting also basically sucks and every scene looks like it's being done in front of a high school projector screen that is showing a teacher's powerpoint presentation on Ancient Rome that he put together for his 2nd period history class.

  • posted a message on Are you the typical nerd?
I'm a nerd, but I'm nerdy about different things than most of MTGS. Namely, the following:

    - Music/Movies/TV
    - Random pop culture trivia/arcana
    - Sports

I basically am as into these as a stereotypical nerd is into Star Wars. Unfortunately the pop culture nerd is a fairly rare breed so it makes it difficult to connect with people who don't think about these things on the same level as I do.

Season two got a lot better, especially in the middle where there was more focus on some vampire mythology and development of characters. It really went off the rails around episode 10 or so when they decided to completely overdo the campiness factor, but I think there's still a lot of potential for next season.

The Magic City by Helium is a long forgotten indie rock classic imo. Combines elements of indie rock with quirky prog rock inspired instrumentation, resulting in kind of a weird acid trip of an album (especially with lyrics about flying away on rainbow dragons). The rest of Helium's stuff is also worth checking out.

That game was insane. I've watched a lot of hockey at various levels and don't know if I've seen such a lopsided start to a game ever. The fact that it happened at the Olympics is just absurd.

Slovakia vs. Canada tonight should be good too, a lot of people are overlooking Slovakia but they've looked damn good most of this tourney.
