wow theres not a lot of argument when both hodoku and uber mexico agree OMG

But yeah i agree with that interpretation as well. And you are saying a small local jail should allow someone with say drugs into the prison if they happen to not have any female employees on duty at the time?

Perhaps it doesn't work like this everywhere, but this is how my local police department handles things:

If a female is subject to a search of any kind (strip search or otherwise), they contact a female officer to come down to the holding cells. If a female officer is not available (off duty, out on a call, etc), they have a trained dispatcher come down to the cells and conduct the search.

This, of course, assumes that all the dispatchers are female. Though, my city tries to keep one female dispatcher on each shift, just for this kind of thing.

New thread? Thank god, I never thought I'd see the day!

not much of interest in this corner of the world. My friend lucas is part of Rainbow Alliance, and apparently there's all sorts of drama going on in their meetings.

Their "tactic" for this semester is to put up giant posters of couples kissing--same sex and opposite sex couples. They tend to be torn down relatively quickly...and then RA pays MORE money to put new ones up...to have them torn down...

I dunno, I guess it's a huge debate over if the "plan" is a waste of money or not. I, personally, think they're doing more harm than good--they're pretty much throwing away this semester's budget by replacing these things every few days. I believe there's a better way to raise awareness than to put up giant posters and 'shock' people.

But I'm not part of the organization (simply because I can never make a meeting due to the newspaper), so I don't think I should get in the middle of it.

He teaches my "Corrections" and my "Police and Society" classes. He's quite humorous, and isn't afraid to use the F-word in class.

I think the classes are going to be interesting, aside from the fact that he's teaching them.

Yeah, he's only two years older than my boyfriend...that's just weird. Creepy, almost. But Heath was one of the few actors I actually liked...what a shame. =/

I watched part of Hairspray last night. I wasn't really impressed with it. I think it's a well-done movie, but I just couldn't get into it. Maybe I'll give it a try again in a few months.

I learned that one of my professors is from Winnipeg. Born and raised there, apparently. I thought he was from a different country...he has the slightest accent. I love him already, though. He's so funny. The classes I have with him will be interesting, for sure.

So is it the weekend yet? I could use some free time that lasts longer than 20 minutes. XD

flexibility...I used to be a gymnast when I was younger (like...7 or 8), and I was superflexible then. Now I'm not quite as flexible, but when I need to be, I am. If that makes sense. :p

I should get a new banner...just dunno what to do. I was thinking something doctor who related, considering my avatar. We'll see.

School starts today! Woo. I only have one class, too: Jazz Appreciation. Hour and a half. And then I can sit around and do NOTHING the rest of the day. I love the way I schedule things. <3

I rather like the Mac vs. PC ones, I think they're amusing.

the Head On commercials are so stupid. even the newer ones that mock themselves. Still dumb, guys. Quit it. Besides, I'm pretty sure the product doesn't work anyway.

    Another one I can't stand?

"Diamonds are a girl's best friend".

Speak for yourself, woman. I'm a girl, and if I got a diamond, I wouldn't know what the hell to do with it. I don't wear jewelry (minus a ring of my grandmother's for christmas and whatnot), and I think there are far better things to spend money on than a rock.

Like, let's put that money towards a new guitar instead. Or some drums. Or something FUN.

If I did have a diamond, I'd probably do something science-y with it. Like see how much it would scratch rocks I find in the yard, or how i can get it to shine the rainbow on my desk, or something like that.

Car commercials are pretty annoying, although any car commercial that pokes fun at Ford is good with me. I don't like Ford. ahaha.

Ah, I love you and your linguistics.
I'm Ohioan. "Anymore" is indeed pretty commonly used that way. Interestingly enough, it struck me as funny diction before I started using it myself.

The dialects you find in Ohio are so interesting. Crazily enough, I speak like an Ohioan (as opposed to a Wisconsinite) whenever I talk to my ex boyfriend.

He's from Columbus, so that's really the only dialect I'm familiar with. I've heard a little of the southern Ohio dialect, and it's not much different..

What always amused me was the "at" at the end of sentences: "Where's my coat at?"

And the "for" instead of "because": "You have to do that, for if you don't, the whole place is gonna blow up."

We don't do that in Wisconsin, so I always found it amusing. And then whenever I went to visit the ex (while we were still dating), I'd speak like that. Which led to him and his family being amused. :p

Dialects and accents are really interesting things. Grin

    I said...

Ja, jag kan tala lite svenska, men inte så mycket.
Yes, I can speak a little Swedish, but not so much. Not sure whether I should have used så there... så=so (pronounced about the same too). I was going more for "but not that much."

Min mor är svensk = My mother is Swedish.

Sweet, I wasn't too far off on the mother one. Now I see the "Yes I can speak a little Swedish" part.

Swedish seems like an interesting language to learn. Perhaps one day I'll look into that further. Like, when the days magically have more than 24 hours in them. :p

    What's APUSH?

Advanced Placement United States History. It's basically a college level class you take in high school. You take the AP test at the end of the year, in hopes that you test out of the credit in college. Or something.

Debate...I tend to avoid that forum. I never, EVER post there. Although, I do read some of the topics sometimes, just because there's nothing else to do. They can get pretty interesting, if there's intelligent people posting in the thread.

Ja, jag kan tala lite svenska, men inte så mycket...

Min mor är svensk, so I have Swedish citizenship... But she didn't teach it to me and my brothers growing up, so what I do know I learned when I spent a semester abroad there in college.

I guess I need to practice it more, or I'll forget the bit that I do know. I could try speaking to my mom in Swedish as often as possible, but it's so much easier to just speak English...

i have no clue about the first line, but the second line has something to do with your mother. Yay, context clues. :p Something like "my mom is swedish", perhaps?

Which part of the following doesn't belong?

    Tornadoes. January. Wisconsin.

haha. There were like...5 tornadoes today. In the middle of January. And it was also almost 70 degrees. In case you don't know, Wisconsin is usually around 10 degrees above 0 at this time of year, and there's usually a few feet of snow on the ground.

Instead, we get tornadoes. And thunderstorms up the wazoo. Thankfully, no one i know was hurt or had their home damaged. I guess Parkside had some trees down, but that's not surprising considering the tornadoes were pretty much all around the campus.

It's wicked weird. I never thought I'd see that in my life.

It'll be interesting to see what the damage is tomorrow. They were talking about it a little on the news tonight...but since it was dark by that point, the actual amount of damage is unclear.

i wish school would start soon. i'm bored. but i have like..two more weeks. Lame!

    Happy New Year's, guys! Smile

My new year's has been pretty uneventful. Spent NY Eve with a few guys from the newspaper, playing guitar hero and drinking vodka, haha. I can't do any of the songs on Hard yet, poo. NY Day was spent with my boyfriend's family. They're awesome, and I can see where he gets a lot of his personality and interests from.

but for now i'm exhausted from all the partying. On Thursday, Ryan's coming up here for a party, and hopefully it won't bother him that he'll be the oldest one there.

I'm kind of ready for school to start again. Two weeks for break in high school wasn't long enough, but a whole month is too long. Hrm.

Blue: No, I don't think so. However, it's totally amazing because it's one you can use while your hair is still damp. Saves me sooooooo much time. No more getting up two hours before class! Aahaha.

New Year's resolutions.....mine is probably to eat a little healthier. I don't eat TERRIBLY, but I know I could do better. Like drinking less soda. Maybe eating more fruits and veggies, although that can be hard at school. But if I just end up cutting back to a few sodas a week, instead of a few sodas a day, I'll be happy. Smile

also, try and not get so stressed out with being executive editor at the paper. That one will just take some time management and some play mixed in with work. Having a great bunch of friends helps this already. Maybe being more social and going out more [even though I'm 2 years too young for a bar] will help as well.

and now i have to go do a load of laundry, before i can take a shower. i'm heading back to school tonight, to hang out with my newspaper friends. Grin

haha, i like that one, Bisty! :p

Christmas here was good...got a few things I was hoping for--a good hair straightener, the soundtrack for Doctor Who, a few other CDs...

Unfortunately, no Guitar Hero. sigh. haha.

Nothing terribly exciting happened, although I did get to see my cousin, Kameron. He's been in Mexico and other such places for the past two years or so doing missionary stuff. He's always been my favorite cousin, and it's sad that I don't get to see him so much anymore. Frown

Now i'm trying to fix my mom's computer-- She's somehow ended up with this wicked virus-thing called "Internet Speed Monitor". I have no idea how to get rid of it, except for a reformat, which is the last thing I want to do. So now it's time to hit up Google for some answers! haha.

What really got me was that they didn't really do much of anything. I didn't expect a full forensics team to investigate my break-in, but they could have at least dusted for prints. All they did was take my information and do a once over on my SUV. The whole thing only took a couple minutes.

Oh, for serious? BAD police work there. They should have dusted for prints. Of course they can't catch the people who did it--they didn't bother to find out who the bad guys are...

That's terrible. Even though I respect police and what they do, there's always a handful that I'd like to shake and go "Why the **** are you a cop?!"

Merry Christmas to you too! Smile

Mikey: sounds rough. The cops telling you that they'll never catch the kids who did it is kind of bad policing if you ask me, but maybe they'd rather be upfront with you than giving you false hope or something. Hope things get better for you!

I haven't been around much due to exams being this week....so far, i have a 2.8 for semester, but that's only because one of my grades isn't posted yet. Not too bad, really.

I also have a boyfriend now...when did that happen, you ask? ****, I have no clue. But I do. It hasn't even been a week, and I already feel like this is all wrong. I'll spare you all and not complain and ***** about it, but suffice it to say that I feel like we're total opposites for the most part. On two different planets. So on and so forth.

But maybe I'm just freaked out at how fast things have moved. We'll see. I don't want to lead him on, but I don't want to be miserable either. Mercifully, christmas break started yesterday, so I have some time to myself to think all this over.

And now i'm off to kill time until my friend Ryan gets here...he's being a superawesome friend and picking me up for this party we're going to tonight. I get to see all my news office friends again, woo! haha.

    i'm out!

Most men suck, but not all. I've found three that don't entirely suck. And luckily, all three are pretty damn cute...

but that's beside the point. Wink

I don't follow MtG much, especially pro players....haha.

I'm so tired...I hung out with clark from like...8:30 until 2 in the morning, and i had class at 11 today. SO TIRED. But it was worth it, because there's something about clark that intrigues the hell out of me. It's pretty weird.

On a totally random note, I watched Pink Floyd's "The Wall" the other day. Talk about ****in' weird, man! hahaha. It was good, though. I really liked it. Now I have to watch Tommy over break, and then I think I'm caught up with such things.

off to a stupid stupid stupid bio test. Frown
