On this same question; when I select two players for EDH it gives my instance of 40, and two instances of General Damage... If I'm only supposed to be keeping track of my own life, why would I need two things of General Damage?

Well, there's two generals: yours and theirs. What if they mind control yours Wink

Excuse my inability to understand the technology I have bought but how do I download the utilities app?

On any android smartphone (of version 1.5+) you can download it by searching for MTG Utilities in the Android Marketplace.

Program updated. Let me know if you find the turn timer adequate/useful.

Tap to start it, tap to pause it, tap to restart it.

I'm currently working on a turn clock, as that seems to have been the most requested feature Smile

While that goes on, please post any requests for backgrounds, as I can include a fair few in my update.

Recently downloaded the app, and love it. 2 things id like to see...

    1. Have the size of the screen change depending on how many players are playing when keeping life totals. When its me against someone else, there is a ton of blank, black space that seems like it should be a full screen of the life totals.

    2. The functionality to write in player names when keeping life totals and saving results. It'd be nice to back through who I've played and what the results were.

If you long click on a player name, you can change it. This will be reflected when you export the game history to your SD card. As for the other issue about blank space - this is largely due to my lack of foresight when I started the project. The next big update, which will bring unlimited multiplayer, will fix this issue as well as make it much easier and simpler to edit player names.

Hey man, I really like your app, solid work.
I'm on a Droid and 'Magic TG Tracker' is still my life counter of choice, though.
I think it is just the simplistic nature of it.

However, if I am playing EDH or something, I use your app to count life totals for everyone.
OR, if they are keeping their own, I'll use the EDH function to track general damage and my life.

I do have some questions, that maybe as an app designer, you can answer.
Do you think there will be an app that lists cards MWS style for deck building, instead of having to type them in?
Also one that can maybe read .dec files you send to your phone.

Also, WOOOOT for an Android Judge App, I'd even pay for one of those.

Check out Lagdroid's fabulous Deck Forge app that does basically all you want Wink It beats my deck manager hands down.

The judge app, I anticipate will be free (but it might not, depending on the work involved), hopefully people will donate - no one's donated at all yet :p

For the judge app? Sure. What do you mean count decklists though? I'm unfamiliar with Judging so I dont' know exactly what you mean by this. Is this when people are checking in and you're simply counting the number of decklists or something? Thanks Smile

I'm working on it at the moment, I'll start another thread here once I get the initial release. I've got a few features lined up that I'm going to finish before initial release.

    Planned Features:
Alarm Setter (Pick the time a round lasts, and it will set an alarm for 0, 5, and 15 minutes before the round ends)
    Oracle Look-up
Infraction Guidelines (hopefully I can get that working properly Smile )
Comprehensive Rules lookup (Also another "hopeful")
    Notes
    Infractions Issued
Report Generation (Basically will make a text file containing your notes and whatever infractions you've issued thus far, with ideally the ability to e-mail it)

Yes, I've started work on it Smile If I get into another coding frenzy it might be ready for initial release before the end of the month. Check my website and these forums to stay up to date, and please do suggest any features you'd like to see.

Just a bump to inform anyone interested that version 5.2 is live, which adds the ability to change background graphics.

Not too many things, but DCI Reporter (computer program) had the ability to set alarms at 30 minutes, 15, 5, 0 left in the round. (I forget what the times were, but there were several of them. It makes it easier than having to constantly refer back.

There is an app for the iPhone, but I don't think there is for the Droid.

    http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mtgjudge/id363484335

    "Hi,

As some of you may know, I'm currently a university student majoring in computer science. Last quarter I took a class on iPhone app development, and what better way to put my newfound knowledge to use than to create an app for judging magic! I've already been using many features of this app for weeks now, and can say that they have been very useful in saving myself a ton of time while judging.

The app is now available for download free of charge from the iTunes app store. Simply search for "MTGJudge", or use the link below. From the application description on iTunes:

MTGJudge is the only reference application you're gonna need while judging Magic events. Features include:

    - Quick reference charts for penalties, missed triggers, layers, etc.
    - Oracle card reference: gatherer database is stored locally so you can look up oracle text without internet, or you can toggle the "gatherer pics" mode in order to download pictures directly from gatherer
    - Complete, up to date (April 2010) Infraction Procedure Guide
    - Complete, up to date (Worldwake) Comprehensive Rules
    - Decklist counter to assist in counting decklists near the beginning of a tournament."

Looks Interesting. Definitely a good project to start working on. I'll give it a shot - keep an eye on my website for a release sometime in the future.

I was using another MTG App while judging to have a minutes until end of round timer, and I really like having it.

Interesting. It shouldn't be too hard to add this functionality.

A question, are there many tasks Judges have to perform which an app would be suitable to assist with? I could see a program letting you dynamically set alarms for "15 minutes from now" etc. being useful, but I don't know if there's enough content there for a full on app. Let me know!

+1 for second update today fixing the UI issues (I saw those on the initial 1.5 version too). I have a motorola cliq which should be similar to the hero minus the sense vs. blur customizations.

I have noticed that there are differences with some button drawing (my friend has the sprint version hero), they tend to be bigger on the hero. This is definitely one place android development could use some help, being able to test on the emulator against non google roms.

I tend to do my development in large bursts when I have the time Smile
Yeah, I wish we could do testing on forked ROMs - but I also wish the market place was better, especially the developer console. One can dream Smile

Does this support a round timer?

Do you mean a place on the interface that displays how long it has been since the round has started? Or like, a button you can hit that will tell you time since the round began?

cool, thanks for the work though on my HTC hero the loss button is barely visible and only the edge of it can be seen behind the win button. lots of text clashing with each other as well.

The EDH mode is a welcome addition as well as the other ones but the same issues are present there. The deck bulder works but I found it clunky and slow compared to other tools.

Please update your app. I think I found the problem in some of the interface xml.

Well, great news for you Stuck with 1.5 crowd. With some help from a fellow Dev, I got it working on 1.5. You should be able to find it in the marketplace now.

your app is incompatible with my HTC hero until it gets updated to 2.1(whenever HTC and sprint can finally just release the damn update), love to try it once I can use it. Though most any other MTG app I've seen is backwards compatible.

EDIT: QR code for the lazy

I've been hearing that - I swear it only needs 1.6; I'm certain I set the SDK properly. I'll triple check.

EDIT: Pardon my idiocy - HTC Hero only has 1.5. Please check it out once you get an update Smile

Been a while since I've brought up my pet project here, and I released an upgrade a week or so ago, so I thought I'd bring it up again.

MTG Utilities is a Magic: The Gathering application available on Android Mobile Devices running at least Android 1.5. It is, and will always be, completely free. It is currently version 5.0, aka Teferi, sporting a multitude of features, including:

    • Support for up to five players in basic game mode
    • Player names and life histories based on player
    • Ability to export life histories to a text file on one's SD card
    • Basic Play Statistics (Win/Loss)
    • Coin Flip/D20 roll
    • EDH Mode
    • Emperor Mode
    • Card Lookup via magiccards.info
    • Deck Manager (Create decks, add cards to them, click a card to look it up)
    • Rudimentary localization into German, French, and Spanish

I've upgraded my UI substantially since my first release:

For more information, see it's page on my website here.

Of course, many people have had lots of good suggestions over the months I've been developing this app. Some that I have yet to get around to are Unlimited Multiplayer and a Token Counter. This is largely due to the nature and lack of foresight when I started the program, when I have more time I plan to complete these features.

Anyway, enough of my drawl - if you have an android device, download it, give it a shot, and let me know what you think. Constructive criticism is always welcomed. And, hey, if you liked it - feel free to donate. It gives me motivation to get those fancy features in ... Wink

how the paradox haze interact with rebound abilities in ROE like world at war or stagger shock?

Once you cast the spell from Rebound, it will no longer be exiled (because you must play it from hand for the exile replacement) and thus you can't cast it again - so only once Smile

The key with Paradox Haze is to get cards that are good by themselves but great with Haze. I.E. Land Tax, etc.
