  • posted a message on How Well Games Age
I've been on a retro tear lately, playing a bunch of N64 games and stuff, and I'm surprised at how much I am still enjoying a lot of these classic games. Some have aged well, and others have not. Zelda was just as glorious as I remember it. Super Mario 64 was revolutionary. However, games like Clay Fighter are not quite as stimulating as I remember them to be.

What are games that YOU constantly find yourself coming back to, for memories, new experiences, etc.? I always seem to go through periods every few years where I have to play a heavy concentration of old games, and not a year goes by where I don't play something vintage. Just something about the times, I guess!

Wish they launched with a Mac version. Frown I stopped playing D3 at 100hrs. Monk endgame was fun, but act 2 was way too frustrating to get the marginal gear improvements I needed to progress. Felt messy, confined, not fun. It was really good until 70 hrs or so, I'd say...

  • posted a message on Status of MTGNews, For The Curious
MTGNews was awesome, in its day. It was all about the people, who seemed different then. People were cooler, and nobody was as intelligent as they are now. The game was different, it was simpler, and I could call damage on the stack. Our outlook on the future - now our past - was different. Being in The Called was awesome. There was a lot about that site's community that really helped me through some difficult times in high school, gave me a sense of belonging, and improved my writing. I miss what 'News had when it was the best. But I also recognize my part in its' demise.

Everything fades away. I'll miss all 5K+ posts I had, but not really, most of it was just bull$%#& anyway so I could get a silver icon next to my name . Slant

I live Colorado, and this state is one of the most progressive in the union regarding these laws. Marijuana is extremely easy to find here and the prices are excellent. You don't need a weed card for this reason, but if you want one they are fairly easy to acquire. There are three dispensaries in a very public place (Aspen) minutes from where I live.

It's still technically illegal, but nobody gives a crap (even the cops). It reminds me of a mountain version of Amsterdam, with more expensive whores.

Edit: While we're on the subject, I would actually prefer the production of weed not to be commercially viable on a grand scale. I prefer my herb from smaller operations that put time, care, passion and science into their work. I don't want to smoke a Marlboro weed cigarette, because that would be like smoking a cigarette. Part of the purity of the culture relies on the purity of the bud itself; in a pre-packaged, altered state, the ability to assess quality diminishes.

Unfortunately, this breaks the rule referenced in the OP. Suspension issued.

The game has really fun (albeit repetitive) battles, the clock puzzle is awesome, but my main concern is that my dudes are getting so powerful plowing through baddies because I have no idea what's really going on or where I'm supposed to go next. I've killed 3 different kinds of chocobos. I'm just wandering through time, f'in s*** up.

Fun, though. Can't wait to maybe figure out what's going on.

  • posted a message on Describe your ideal significant other
My perfect woman is going to be a woman who, above all else, accepts that what I have to offer the world is all that I, well, have to offer the world. Women are constantly looking for a bigger, better deal and I'm not interested in a woman who is constantly going to be looking around for a more exciting situation (and they they realize that they never should have left you in the first place).

My girl is going to take care of her body, mentally and physically, as I do. She will also ideally have talent in something, because there's nothing worse than an attractive, vapid human being. I don't care if she is smarter than me, but she can't be dumb. Preferably college educated but I like street smarts, too.

Of course, as I've found out, all girls are crazy, so this chick is probably not even out there in this generation. People don't want to fall in love anymore, they just think they do.

Move out, it will be the best decision that you ever make. It might be a struggle sometimes, but the struggle will make you feel alive.

It's funny how I first found out about the death of Steve Jobs on my iPhone. Morbidly ironic, but Steve wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

    R.I.P. brah.
