Again, this is not the correct definition of strictly better.
For a card to be strictly better, it must be better than the inferior card in every single situation possible in Magic.
You can't just ignore Mindslaver, because that situation still exists in Magic for Shock to be better than Lightning Bolt, no matter how far-fetched it is.
At any time there is a situation that is possible in Magic where the inferior card is better than the superior one, then any argument of "strictly better" is immediately thrown out the window.
No questions asked.
End of story.
Even sweeter situation, Lightning Bolt is worse than shock if your opponent is at 12 life and you have 2 cards in hand. One is Hidtesugu's Second Rite, the other is either lightning bolt or shock and you have RRRRR in your mana pool.
Dragon Broodmother seems like a decent option as a way to bounce back quickly. It's another one of those "you must deal with me now" creatures that can provide a ton of card advantage.
If you want to use Bitterblossoms, you can try Goblin Assault as a Budget replacement. It's not nearly as strong...
Furthermore, 2 Banefires REALLY have a spot in this deck.
Furthermore, Sarkhan Vol is definitely the kind of threat for this rock deck. It comes down on Turn 4 and Forces an answer quick. By the time your opponent has finished scrambling for an answer to Vol, you have Broodmates online.
Someone explained to me last night that if you try to do anything in the Clean Up Step, the game goes back to the end step again... I guess I'm just wondering...Is there any way to activate Necropotence in the clean up step and then draw the card, and then repeat this process so as to keep trying to find a card without paying an arbitrary amount of life before EOT? Just curious

Just grab some basic lands and a sharpie and start slinging some random creatures!

This is not synergy (unless you like hitting Borderposts with Elves often)
I would suggest you switch Bloodbraid Elves to another card.

1 x Thornling
3 x Kitchen Finks
2 x Bloodbraid Elf
17 Creatures
Spells
4 x Thoughtseize
4 x Blightning
3 x Maelstrom Pulse
3 x Terminate
2 x Sarkhan Vol
2 x Banefire
2 x Garruk Wildspeaker
Lands
4x Savage Lands
2x Llanowar Wastes
2x Twilight Mire
1x Fire-lit Thicket
2x Karplusan Forest

3x Forest
1x Mountain
23 Lands
4 x Scepter of Fugue

-3 Eyeblight's Ending, +3 Maelstrom Pulse (unless Budget)
-2 Mycoloth, +2 Caldera Hellion (if you're going to go that route)
Also, someone mentioned budgetizing this deck.

Also, Thoughtseize
Sprouting Thrinax also works wonders in here. Bloodbraid elf can hit him.
But...
Reiterate and Banefire
What happens to the X value of the copied banefire? Is it zero or is the copied X?
Well quite frankly I would suggest buying singles. But cracking packs is fun.... =)
Now if you're buying a box to draft it with your friends....hell yeah, more power to ya =)
Fascinating...thanks!

Why none?
My opponent Controls an Exotic Orchard
These are the only 2 permanents in play.
What mana can they produce (if any?)
