This question regards cards like Gilded Lotus, which are legal to put in a colorless commander deck (i.e. Karn) according to color identity rules (I believe), but have rules text stipulating that they generate colored mana.
Is it legal to tap a Gilded Lotus, declare any color (say, Blue), and then simply utilize the mana as colorless once it's in your pool? Since the rules state that any mana generated which is outside your commanders color identity is instead colorless.
My gut tells me that this is possible, but the interaction of actually declaring a color seems odd enough to me to ask about this.
How have you found this deck to play in your experience? I also run a Merieke EDH, and while my build used to be closer to yours, I found that I simply wasn't winning any games, as the deck seemed to just buckle under any sort of hate. Which would invariably come, since people don't like knowing any creature they play will get stolen.
With that in mind I changed the list so it's much more "dbag control" now. While the strategy still needs some tuning (I'm now running too many counters for a MP environment I think), it does seem to hold up better though.
I do have an aggresive playgroup though, which I think may be more of the issue.
It seems to me that if someone isn't scared of a resolved Yawg Will, someone is doing something wrong.
I guess if you're in a very casual meta, then it might not be that good. But if you have a grave full of tutors, removal, and utility late game, it basically says, "I win."
I personally run signets in all my decks, alongside manabases of ABU duals and fetches. I think it's more an issue of choice rather than a real budget option.
It is a valid point though that if you think you'll be doing lots of board sweeps which destroy artifacts than there may be better options. But even then, unless you're running 3-4+ of them, I'd still run them.

Thanks!

Love the idea behind the deck BTW.

But... the names are different.
The upside of running either Oblivion Stone, or Nev's Disk, is that you then have a wipe which enlightened tutor can fetch.
Angel of Despair doesn't work, if I'm correct. Since it would need to be brought back with Lark, if you're going for some kind of loop.
I think.
I have two EDH decks
Great work to everyone as usual. I'll chime in on the crowd praising the lotus, klug. I'm not always a fan of your work, but that is fantastic.
That is a very good point. It may be something worth keeping an eye out for though, if the OP is interested.
I know that I personally just gradually build up any EDH deck I build.
