I'd say easily the most important aspect is to keep your deck focused. Honestly you can play a deck without card advantage or even tutors and just win because EVERY card adds up to one goal. That being said, synergy is also one of the most important parts of every deck.
I like how you say legends suck but your avatar is Gerrard and Squee...
My avatar is Recycle. That is because changing my avatar is about as far as I am willing to go out of my way for the earth. I like legendary cards actually, my first post was misleading. I just don't like when there is a card for a tribal deck that you want to max out on and then they just put legendary on it... Thus preventing it from seeing play.
This is a thread to discuss cards that you rarely pass P1P1 or even later and you often splash for them. This isn't just to post: 'Sol Ring'. I am looking more at cards that you like enough that you try or want to play them in every deck. These are the cards that fit my playstyle in cube so much so that I always will pick them:
The duals are so bad. They should have basic land types and if they are really going to see competitive play, they should all tap for U OR one of their two colors.
This is So Busted with black locus (Gain life and 3 mana?! Yes please). Also this card is insane with Omnath. I gain life for EACH omnath! that's so sick.
There are still spoilers poaring in, and if they end up printing some old favorites, this will be a very potent block combo.
First you play Necrotic Ooze.
Then Wotc reprints: Buried Alive, Morselhoarder, Devoted Druid and Ambassador Laquatus.
Then you Buried Alive for Devoted Druid, Morselhoarder and Ambassador Laquatus.
Then you profit! (First you tap Necrotic Ooze for G, then you untap it using the -1/-1 counter ability on Morselhoarder, then you do it again and again and again and again and again [this many times exactly gives you 2,000- mana]. Then you activate Ambassador Laquatus's ability on Necrotic Ooze [targeting your opponent])
With over 200 cards left to be spoiled I have high hopes for this format defining combo.
The Sphinx-Bone Wand deck from Rise is the best "gimmick" deck i ever drafted, because even without the Wand, you can construct the deck to simply outlast your opponent.
That was my favorite Rise deck I ever drafted also. Man, Sphinx-Bone Wand was completely unfair once it was in play, and I watched my friend go 3-0 during an FNM with almost all "terrible" cycling cards (ie Nighthaze/ Fleeting Distraction), Cast through Time and S-B W.
Gimmick decks are really fun, and if you have ever played suicide draft (pick your own packs) its awesome the amount of synergy you can get in a very gimmicky fashion.
It doesn't sac your creatures but in your deck Kithkin Mourncaller would be a one sided fecundity. Primordial Sage can be very good. You may want to try out Symbiotic Deployment although it can be pretty brutal if it gets destroyed. Along those lines, I really like both Recycle and Null Profusion however any "Discard 2" card can put you out of the game pretty quickly if your general is in play.
I don't know how attached you are to the idea of a box. If you really just want to get a box get Rav because it is a ton of fun and has the shock lands and bob.
If you really want to try what I think the best sealed product limited format is what around here is called Suicide Draft (Pick your own packs). Each person picks three boosters and you do a draft with a ton of different boosters. There can be up to 24 differenent boosters, altough the most I've seen is probably 10.
Besides the fact that this format is incredibly diverse, it also showcases the awesom interactions that you can have in limited. Time spiral block is a ton of fun because you get to play with th timeshifted mechanics along with the originals. The sheer amount of random synergy is awesome. Lorywn's tribal theme is awesome when conisdered throughout the years. This format is awesome, and you can be a wild or as tame with the packs as you want. Also, you can play money sets. The sickest (and worst) deck that you can only draft in suicide was Hive Mind and Pact of the Titan combo. He actually drew it one game (the only game he won).
I played a dredge edh deck and instead of blue I played RGB. This allows you to play either Xira Arien (extra dredge) or Adun Oakenshield (awesome to get back what you dredged). I played Xira Ariend and this was the most fun do-nothing-then-crush-the-whole-table deck I have played in EDH. Red allows for Anger and Gamble which are both insane in these decks. And my personal favorite, Torrent of Souls. The most important thing about this deck when I played it was that I wasn't playing blue in another EDH deck. I personally don't like playing blue because there are always at least 80 cards I want to put in every blue deck that I just don't have room for.
You could also play Teneb, the Harvester. This would allow you to play the necessary GB cards while also allowing for you to have Academy Rector --> Debtor's Knell (or Diabolic Servitude. You also get Karmic Guide, Reveillark and Saffi Eriksdaughter. Crime // Punishment is also very good. This also enables you to play cheaper wrath effects and I honestly think that Plague Wind and Reiver Demon are way to expense for 1v1 EDH decks. Another thing that I highly recommend for any green deck in EDH is to play quite a few more accelerants. In a deck like this, if you have many accelerants and access to a ton of mana you can very quickly do incredibly ridiculous things.
I would add more fat to your deck. If you do this you can play a ton of reanimation cards that are all pretty awesome. I would add: Terastodon - Extreme Utility Lord of Extinction (I can't tell you how many times I would dredge my whole deck, flashback dread return on this guy, then have anger and brawn in my graveyard. Then you smash someones face and flashback Seize the Day to smash another face.) Worm Harvest (This was a key card. You can easily get like 40+ tokens in one turn if you have started to go off with Life from the Loam.
I know this is almost blasphemous but if you make this deck the awesome dedicated dredge deck that it can be, I would cut rancor, jitte and SoFI because they are pretty bad once dredged.

Anyway, I reccomend this format.
