I really want to like this card, but a 1/1 for four is, even if it might easily grow over time, just pathethic for a mythic. I afraid of slowly developing a really passionate love-hate relationship for black and white cards. Quite frankly, what I love most about them by now, Elenda being no exception, is their art. While my frustration kicks in each time I read what the card does and checking its mana cost.
It truly is an all or nothing mentality at R&D's when it comes to designing magics standard environment. One season folks duke it out with absurdly efficient, futuristic helicopters and turn four Ulamogs, and in the next season, rampant growth is being considered as too good.

I seriously love the land backside, but that fight flip-condition on the front is uh... strange, to say the least. How does this even make sense lore-wise that it can only fight your own guys? Is this a trial to enter the golden city? But if you control it that means your golem ally is punching you in the face to prove your worth? I'm overthinking this way too much... time to wait for the english version.
This set only just started and it seems to be loaded with edh goodies! I mean I might be exaggerating, but journey to eternity seems absolutely busted in Meren of clan Nel Toth. Tendershoot dryad's a pretty cool token producer, but it dies to elesh norn, which is a big deal in my meta.
Pretty cool for a merfolk edh deck. I just wish the first and last effect would be a bit better. The card draw seems to be clearly the best out of his abilities. Sweet synergie with fallowsage, I'm actually considering trying Kumena out in edh.
I hope this is just a fake, because Angrath is so terrible it's hard to believe this is a real magic planeswalker. Thank god two of his abilities say 'each opponent' in it, which is basically the only justification one can find to use him in commander. I'm still shaking my head, I just hope they didn't screw up the new WB vampire chick with the awesome art as well.
Dino is pretty good, low costed and effective, nothing to further add there.
Still going to use my old-bordered foil-basics from 7th, invasion and that era. Much brighter, traditional and colorful than this force of will rip-off.
That's clearly Tony Starks newest arc reactor, which makes this an insta win for me. That aside, this card is super-sweet in edh, I absolutely love it! Time to hoard those foils kiddos.
I don't get why wotc is so eager to make its audience forget that the game has more than 20 years of history
I actually believe that they'd feel genuinely accomplished if they could just erase the first 15 years of magic. Tons of broken cards, the reserved list, rules changes, all the old art that's considered outdated, disgusting or just outright offensive nowadays, yeah, they'd have reasons.
Speaking of art, this new logo is actually quite the ironic embodiment of todays magic art: it's bland, forgettable and without any charm or soul.
geoscope and doran are pretty weird, but oh man, finally a capture reprint! I've waited so freakin long for it, super glad to add it to my edh collection.

sword-point diplomacy (3 life is a lot, this also has potential and shouldn't be a 10 cent bulk rare)
vraskas contempt (this is a fair card with blue gearhulk and might push UB control over the top. its just super good against everything, exiling gods and walkers all day long plus giving you life which is great against rdw)
Still pretty torn about this set, to say the least.
Let's get this out of the way, but limited looks really, really fun to play. Dinosaurs in general might be a bit too pushed, but it could still work out, as removal seems to be pretty strong in the common slots. Second thing this set has going for it, in my opinion, is the major uptick in art quality, with vibrant colors all around (the dinos and merfolk in particular). It's not exactly my style of mtg art (those days are long gone), but it's still a drastic improvement compared to the last blocks. Finally, my first impresson is that the cards are well designed all around. They seem balanced, fun to play with and the tribes in this set give Timmies countless sleepless nights. I still think merfolk is absolutely terrible in this set, especially when compared to dinosaurs, which really hurts my feelings as a former fish player.
In the end, though, all those positives have to fight the ultimate evil, which is the financial value of a magic set. Wizards looked at their stack of chips and went all in, banking heavily on the casual market with the tribes, because nothing except a few seriously pushed dinosaurs feel like valuable cards with staying power to me. Sure, this set has the usual 3 planeswalkers, but they are all okay and that's really it. They aren't good, much less amazing, they just exist as forgettable magic cards and that's about it. Next thing, dual lands. Can't sell the set with these, they have been reprinted a million times in the past (still baffled why they didn't roll with the enemy checkduals). And finally: no expeditions, killing off another huge sales point. So in short, Ixalan has bulk mythics, bulk duals and no 100$ lottery tickets. So what the heck will sell this set?
I spot several vessels on the horizon, ships loaded with stalwart, pure-hearted people. Casual players, devoid of all malevolent intent, in pursuit of their dream of getting their hands on a 9/9 vanilla dinosaur with an estimated card-value of 10 cents. But will they be able to brave that sea of danger, a sea filled with countless whirlpools just waiting to suck the wallets of those innocent souls dry. I wish those brave pioneers the best of luck, may the reach their casual haven safe and sound.

At 4 cmc I really, really doubt it, so no worries here. Just wait a week or two after launch and you should be able to get a foil for a dollar or two
