If you are driving from more than 4 hours away (via google maps, no traffic) the driver will receive *FREE* Entry.
The only thing you *cannot* do is have an account with Wizards or an authorized distributor to buy product, and then sell it to people out of country. (the only penalty is losing that distribution)
My LGS normally has 7 flights of 50 for pre-release weekend. Because of the change, they have had to go to 5 flights of 30. Thats a big cut into their profits from this. Not to mention Wotc has stopped prize support with this set meaning it costs the LGS even more to hold these. Expect smaller pay outs, due to this.
Wizards is still sending prize support...
Also, there are some shortages at the distribution level. If stores could order more, the price would still be $100.
The better solution is to offer prizes based on record, not standings. What we do for FNM (Draft) is:
4 Rounds swiss
4-0 receives $36 in credit
3-0-1 receives $26 in credit
3-1 receives $16 in credit
It starts promptly at 7 (actually promptly; someone that called ahead and showed up at 7:05 won't be allowed in) and finishes around 11 PM most nights.
Competitive players still get the good prizes they want, and casual players can get out of there sooner.
Prices are different, since the economies are driven by different things. (Casual cards worth less, foil mythics super overpriced, old cards can be expensive.)
What was the reason to wait 3 weeks to ban Mental Misstep?
I am familliar with the 3 week lag for set releases, but that is for programming/playtesting purposes I suppose. Why can't you simply ban it at the Wednesday downtime or something? For the most recent banning in block they did not wait 3 weeks.
It had to do with their build ad release cycles. They needed to modify a specific part of code that wasnt pushed as a release for weeks.
Ptqs are done in seasons, based on what PT they feed. Each season is a different format, with this season Standard. Limited is traditionally right after the fall set comes out.
This post was all great advice but I want to draw your attention to just this sentence because it's the most important thing. You can make mistakes left and right but if you're undercapitalized it does not matter if you pitch a perfect game, as it were... your store will fail.
$10k is less than many established stores spent on Dark Ascension ALONE.
$10k may not even pay for buildout on one bathroom if the suite you find has an inadequate or inoperable one... and these days if a game store doesn't have two, you're playing with fire, because women won't spend time in places that don't have pleasant bathrooms that are segregated by gender.
$10k is not enough to pay one month's nut in most cases.
To get the capital you need, you are going to have to get investors. And in general, investors want to see more of a business plan and structure than what you've suggested so far. In the course of finding out what will satisfy them, you'll learn a lot of what you need to know.
To be fair, new stores often get very generous terms... The number I'm looking at is 40k in cards and 60k in cash, with another 50k that can be leveraged.
I had a guy at my local place tell me that "Oh, we don't pay as much for foils because nobody buys them" and tried to offer me 30 percent on a foil Sword of W&P.
He doesn't work there anymore. (unrelated, I'm sure.)
Honestly, that's a perfectly reasonable thing to say, and I do the same when buying.. Foils have a very low sell rate, and its difficult to tie up that much capital in a single card.

Also, are duplicate events reportable?
