Is the giant eye behind the canticle suppose to represent Sauron, a giant Beholder or Tourach?

I don't know where you're shopping, but I've found them for less. Set boxes are on Ebay for under $250 and Collector box for under $390. Ordered a draft box from my LGS for $220= $235 with tax. Just because places list it for high prices, doesn't mean people have to buy it for those prices. Aside from Ebay, there are several places that have had them listed for about a month now. Look for them when they're first announced or shortly thereafter. Also, I've already ordered several boxes of the Adventures of the Forgotten Realms set & it doesn't come out for another 2 months. It just takes a little work to save money if you want to spend on these. Otherwise, you can save a lot of money by not buying any.

    Quote from Lectrys »
Looking at Wizards's Banned and Restricted lists, the most likely candidate for "a legendary character best known for having his name on a powerful card (that’s been banned) finally gets a legendary creature" is, perhaps sadly, Tourach of Hymn to Tourach fame. Hymn to Tourach is banned from Pauper and is powerful enough to still see play in Legacy.

Alternately, Oko technically fits the above statement and has had a card of his banned in multiple formats...but Oko has no nostalgia trip value, so I'm cheering for Tourach.

Yeah, I would think this instead of Quoz, from Amulet of Quoz, seeing as how that wasn't a powerful card.

They can also keep going with Tiamet & just have the Dragonlance version, Takhisis.

Now that Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman have kissed & made up with WOTC, maybe in the future, instead of the Further Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, we'll get Adventures of Dragonlance, so that we can get Raistlin, Sturm, Tanis & the rest. Then Wizards can continue to add to the confusion of Kithkin, Halflings & Hobbits by having Kender (Tasslehoff).

Aside from Drizzit & the whole gang, Wulgar, Regis, etc, I would hope more to see Artemis Entreri and Jarlaxle.

Maybe a Yochol, as a precursor to Loth. Then maybe they'll expand and add Drizzit and the whole gang.

The Collector box creature seems like a 3-eyed, Lord of Ropers from D&D

The picture on the Collector box looks like a creature from D&D which is the set coming out just after it, so it could be a preview of more creatures to come. When I first saw it though, it reminded me of Thrakkorzog from the original Tick the Animated Series.

A friend & I go in on some of these every now and then, but there's no way in Heaven or Hell that I would pay for a subscription for this.

It's a slower Mystical Tutor, Personal Tutor. Personal tutor is getting expensive.

It should've been the Magic Historian that got to reveal this card.

This looks like the artist took a picture of some guy & then painted around him. Maybe the artist owed this guy a favor or was blackmailed into doing this. Either way, atrocious. I can't decide which is worse, this 1 or the original Stasis art by Fay Jones. That one looks like Fay ran out of time & didn't finish it. Wotc must be hiring elementary school kids to do their artwork now.

I had to start a new message to add more pix. These are just to show people what skins of cards can look like over cards that already exist. I know people (investors/collectors) are worried that WOTC will use this to get around or do away with the Reserved List, but that's another argument for a different thread.

Fortunately, I've had that since Innistrad came out & I made a whole deck with new skins. Some just foil-overs, some painted cards, some judge foils/FTV/promos. It's a "Kaalia of the Vast" deck. There isn't a single "normal" looking card in the deck. Aside from the One Ring, there's Star Wars, Marvel & Skimpy cards, but they're all real. I guess I'm lucky to play with a group that's been together since '96. We play team vintage. Either 2 vs 2 or 3 vs 3, depending on who can show up. It's been over a year since we've been together though. When I first played the deck, they all thought it was cool. There's one that sometimes acts like Oscar the Grouch & complains that he can't see what the card is because it's covered over with a picture. I just hand the card over to him so he can see it better. Then I tell him to get glasses so he can see better. But after all these years, as long as they are magic cards, they're accepted.
