A New and Exciting Beginning

The End of an Era
  • published the article A Blessing.
Last Saturday, a terrible storm named Ondoy swept through my country, the Philippines.

On the day before, my class had its class night (a night every year when all of us would bring sleeping bags and would sleep in school overnight). I ended up not sleeping for the entire night (which usually happens every class night that i have) because i keep on talking with my friends, playing poker with them, or simply having fun like playing basketball. The next morning, at 6 am, my folks picked me up and we went to my brother's school to attend to his fellowship day. Before we left the school to go home, the rain started.

Once we already left at 10 am, it was raining very hard already. we had a hard time getting to the car because of the rain. Once in the car, i already witnessed the terrible things that had happened because of the storm. Many roads were already flooded waist-deep (some even neck-deep) and there was immense traffic. because of my wariness from not sleeping on the previous night, i slept in the car at around 10:15 am. When i woke up, we were already in a different place, but we were still in heavy traffic. I looked at my phone and noticed that it was already 4:40pm. I had slept for over 6 hours. I ate take-out in the car and stayed awake for two hours, bored by the unmoving traffic. Again, i slept, this time at 6pm. When i woke up, we were already home. it was still raining and it was already 9 in the evening. we were stranded for almost 11 hours.

What happened to me and my family were small in comparison to what happened to other more unfortunate people in my country. Many places were flooded, ranging from knee-deep to over 2 stories deep. some people were stranded on the roofs of their houses or on the third floor. hundreds of cars were being washed away by the strong currents as if they were mere driftwood.

By now, the storm had already went past our country. But many are still suffering. so far, more than a hundred people are dead. hundreds are still stranded. and a lot of people are missing. there is still mass flood in many parts of the country. But some have already subsided. On places where there used to be a flood, bodies can be seen on the trees, buried under trash and mud, or laying on the floor. cars are stacked all around, useless to their owners. homes were destroyed, alongside with everything in it. Many people lost everything they had, whether it be their things or their loved ones.

After everything that has happened and is still happening, i consider it a blessing for me and my family to be unharmed, as with our house and belongings. I am currently devoting my time (classes have been suspended for a week) to volunteer work to help those who are unfortunate enough to feel the damage and loss the storm has brought.

For more enlightenment on what had happened, videos of the storm's effects can be seen in youtube and written accounts can be seen on the internet.

  • published the article Phobias
well, I posted this for three reasons; First, I'm bored. Second, I saw a website with a list of all the phobias and I would just like to make some comments on some of them here. And thirdly, I'm bored. So without further ado, here I go.

Ablutophobia - Fear of bathing, washing, or cleaning.
At first I couldn't believe that someone would have this kind of fear. And I thought that anyone who has this kind of fear has a high possibility of not having that much of a social life. I mean, if you have fear of taking a bath or washing yourself, others might have that tendency of staying away.
Agoraphobia - Fear of places or events where escape is impossible or when help is unavailable.
The only thing that came into mind was that these guys might not have the interest of playing video games, let alone games like Pacman.
    Algophobia - Fear of pain.
Okay, now a person who have this would probably have a pretty hard time most of the time. I mean, sometimes, even guys who don't have this would feel it if, for example, if they were trying something new like, let's say, sky diving or something like that. But someone who feels this all the time, again, would have a hard time since life is filled with painful experiences, right?
    Androphobia - Fear of men.
    Okay, again, hard time.
Decidophobia - Fear of making decisions.
Everyone has to make decisions in his or her life, so uh...you get my point.
Gerascophobia - Fear of growing old or ageing.
Ageing is definitely unavoidable so again, hard time.
    Heliophobia - Fear of Sunlight.
I would expect someone with this to have pale skin.
Hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia - Fear of the number 666.
Very uncommon, I assume. Plus, it's a mouthful. XD
    Osmophobia - Fear of smells.
Again, unavoidable. You would have to be able to smell something eventually.
    Phagophobia - Fear of swallowing.
A person with this would be faced by two choices I think: Face their fear, or hunger.
Phobophobia - Fear of having a phobia.
Well, that's a neverending loop now, isn't it.
    Somniphobia - Fear of sleep.
Okay, another thing that, imo, is very unavoidable since one's body would have to rest at one point.
Tetraphobia - Fear of the number 4.
    Again, very uncommon.

Yeah, so that ends my comments about some phobias that I find peculiar.

DISCLAIMER - To all those who have one or more of the phobias mentioned above, I have no intentions whatsoever about insulting you. I simple want to speak my mind as to what I think about these.

I have to agree that actually playing with the new rules is the best bet.

I have played with my friend just a while ago, and we agreed to play with the new rules to see if things were gonna be difficult or not. and after playing, I have to say, that in all honesty and humility, that I was wrong.

Yes, i misjudged the new rule changes and took it at first glance. To be honest, I was also rebellious to some of the changes. My friend and I didn't have any difficulty at all with the new changes. In reality, our match went as smooth as before, when the new changes haven't been made yet.

So I say this to all who think wrong about the new rules; I agree that the best bet is to try the changes yourselves. See what happens when you play with it. We musn't judge these as if it was a reflex. Rather, we should keep our minds open and to not be closed and settled upon our initial dislike towards these changes. Let us see this not as an abomination or a travesty, but to see it as a way for the game to be more fun and interesting in the future. There is a possibility that Wizards have future plans for the game, which when used with these changes, would make things turn out for the better. Give the new rules a chance.

Manny vs Ricky, Pacquiao vs Hatton, East vs West, Pacman vs Hitman

MGM Grand, Las Vegas, May 3rd, 2009.
I was at home, watching as the fight commences. As I was watching, I saw that Hatton had the upper-hand during the early part of the first round. But then, as the round went on, he was losing his rhythm bit by bit. It was just the first round, and he was already looming over the losing end. I already suspected the fight to end early.
True enough, it did. By the end of the first round, Hatton was already affected by the powerful combos of Pacquiao. After the first round, where he was knocked down two times, it was already visible in his face; the flattened nose, the squinting eyes, especially that fatigued look. Early on the second round, Hatton tried to gain the upper-hand, but failed. His technique is wrong, i thought. He kept on trying to clinch Pacquiao, as he was known to do in his matches, but failed. Whenever he would try to clinch Manny, he would miss due to Manny's quick dodging and sidestepping. Manny would then counter with hard punches to the jaw and head. As i suspected, with 10 more minutes to go in the second round, Hatton was knocked out with a left hook to the jaw. Just as he was about to give Manny a left jab, Manny quickly ducked and gave Hatton a powerful left hook. It was evident that after Hatton fell to the canvas, that he could no longer fight, knocked out, asleep.
After the referee called the fight over, people rushed to the ring both to celebrate with Manny and to attend to the now defeated Hitman. It could be seen that Hatton was slowly opening his eyes, still confused by the what had just happened. Some people were even sad for Hatton, that this fight was both humiliating and heart-breaking for him. On the other side of the ring, Manny can be seen praying while kneeling as a lot of people were shouting and congratulating him.
The fight was finished, with Pacman victorious, declared as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. The question is, who's next? Mayweather? and if so, will Pacman, once again, succeed?

anyone out there who plays DotA?

well, i need help on my build with certain characters.
In DotA, i usually use agility heroes more than strength and intelligence.
The ones i like to use in the sentinel are Traxex (Drow Ranger), Rhasta (Shadow Shaman), and Jah'rakal (Troll Warlord).
On the other hand, the ones i use in the scourge are Terrorblade (Soul Keeper), Razor (Lightning Revenant), Nervermore (Shadow Fiend), Clinkz (Bone Fletcher), and Darkterror (Faceless Void).

Any suggestions on the builds for these heroes would be much appreciated.

i hit 1000 posts in 20 days yesterday!!!

when i registered here in MTGS on march 5, 2009, i was so excited to post. at the beginning, my posting rate was at the minimum since i was still new to the forums. back then, i usually posted in the rumor mill.

time went by and i finally noticed that some people had amazing banners in their signature. i wanted to have a cool banner so i searched in google or yahoo for banners that i could use. but i still couldn't find any decent ones.

eventually, i noticed in one of the banners that the guy was giving credit to another guy for making the banner. then i finally found a banner with a link to the place where it was made; High~Lite Studios (it's kind of sad that they closed the shop).

in the general rules, i read that the person must have a minimum of 25 posts. i wanted a sig banner so much that i kept on finding threads to post responses or, if not, to make a new thread myself. in my eagerness to reach 25 posts, i even received an infraction for bumping old threads, or posting spam such as "yeah, your right."XD.

in the end, when i reached 25 posts, i was so excited to post a request in High~Lite Studios. then i got a banner.

as time passed by, i also noticed that some guys have titles below their username, and, again, i wanted one. but i realized that i needed 1000 posts to get one. in my quest to get that amount of posts, i found the subforum; custom card contests and games. ever since, i just kept on posting there. and thanks to sheer willpower and boredom, i was able to reach 1000 posts in 20 days. (50 ppd) insane, right? it even reached a point when my friends would get pissed because of my "addiction in posting" here in MTGS.

well, that's my story so far, and, as of now, i can be seen posting in that same subforom, not just because i'm sooo bored, but because i find it enjoyable.
