I think that everything on SC:BW is absolutely fine aside from that you can't select more than 12 units at once - that is a nightmare. Sure, it was fine in 90s, but when you first use SC2's system you just don't want to get back...

It is tedious and for casual players the infinite unit select from sc2 is way better but there also is something incredibly beautiful about a pro's precision and speed and multitasking when moving large amounts of units across a map.

It seems a 3rax build or something along those lines is a good starter build to practice and get timings down? I don't want to get good at some cheese BS strategy, I want a good baseline build I can practice and then customize.

Does anyone use reapers much online? It seems harass is their only role.

IMO 3rax isn't good for a starter build because it's not macro-based and kinda allin (you must execute a timing attack and do damage or you will be behind), meaning there's no room for a quick cc while constantly building out of the raxes. Generally you want a more econ-greedy build to improve faster since it helps out your timing sense, multitasking, micro, macro, crisis management etc.

Reapers are used to scout as well.

Anyone play or watch Starcraft still? It's quite dated but still is one of the best games ever made IMO. Considering the MTGS community is quite competitive, I know you love it. I know!!

TBH, it seems that all of the Starcraft hype for nonkoreans has been funneled into SC2 and there's not of love for Brood War. This sucks because having played and watched both games a lot, Brood War offers an amazing spectator and competitor experience. But no big nonkorean tournaments kill viewership :[[[

In less than 2 days the Proleague finals will be happening. SKT1 vs KT (as usual lol).

Also here's some hype video. Love it!!

Hi all, I am coming here for advice (scared to death of smogon lol).

I used to play pokemon a lot but stopped because of other interests, including mtg :p. I am thinking about getting this new game but want to get some things clarified.

Is it true that effort values are out of the game? That would make it a bit easier to create good pokemons.

Are IVs still insanely hard to breed for? I remember riding up and down for hours while watching TV hoping for those sexy 31/31/28+ IVs but never really got them lol.

Is there a big enough competitive scene on the wifi for it to be worth training pokemons on the ds or is pokemon online a better choice? Subjective question but still want some inputs.

    thanks

    There are fans of Mao?

i see a decent amount of mao fans at my university. they have bags with mao's face on them and like to protest :p

perhaps they think 45 million ppl dying is worth it to advance mao's ideology, i dunno really

on another note, i must thanks mao, as he is the reason i exist... my grandfather was in jiang ki shek's military that fled to taiwan, where he met my grandmother.

Starcraft: Brood War. The game is a perfect game. It rewards strategy, tactics, quick thinking, mechanics, and decision making. The games are oftentimes incredibly epic, like lord of the rings epic with massive battles at multiple locations, each unit expertly controlled, with the players building workers and creating units at the same time. It's also a game that takes skill and this skill is actually recognizable...it's a game where the players become heroes to thousands. A Nada tank > a normal tank, same with Boxer marines, Jaedong mutas etc. i could ramble on about bw lol

    Honorable mentions...

Pokemon: People seriously underestimate the competitive aspects of the game. Competitive Pokemon is imo one of the most strategic games out there. Gameplay goes far beyond "what's the weakness?" It's more like, "what's the EV (stat) distribution, what's the build, what other pokemon could the opponent have, what is the overall gameplan?" All quite similar to mtg actually :p.

Starcraft 2: Same qualities as bw but not as refined... still new and growing though.

I recommend Pokemon D/P level, which is a game that requires good foresight and lots of intense thinking at the competitive level. Lots of strategy and really rewards knowledge of the metagame and overall game sense. Check out the simulator pokemon online if you want to try it out.

It's good and all but it is so tedious to learn stuff again. I love playing pokemon and to continue it, I need to memorize all the new base stats, ev spreads and movesets, and strategies.
