I like this. I think it plays a lot better than it looks.

I run several uncards, and I have never been tempted to add this. I have players of all skill levels playing, and this is WAY too unfair to the newer players. If all your players are experienced, than absolutely try it. But if you have players of varying levels, I do not recommend it.

Well, consider my first question answered. Now I know why there wasn't an SCD on this before XD

Okay, second question: If I wanted to replace Whip of Erebos with something better, what would you suggest? I currently run Reanimate, Exhume, Living Death, Profane Command, Animate Dead, Diabolic Servitude, and (bluh!) Whip as reanimator spells.

I would second the recommendation for Unburial Rites if you absolutely don't want Whip in your cube, but I personally prefer Whip as the lifelink can let it play a role in decks other than reanimation (Whip is very popular in White-Black token decks in my cube as well as reanimator).

I feel like its power mostly comes from helping mitigate wrath effects with its sacrifice ability. I could see testing it if only for that. The competition is fierce though.

The prize for our yearly cubeiversery tournament (involving as many players as we've had all year) is a custom Magic card to go in the cube. They have to work with me to balance the card, but it is a great way to get people invested in the Cube. I wouldn't want a ton in the cube, but this worked well and was easily accepted by my playgroup (they thought it was awesome).

I'm in. Give me a day or two to get my wish list together, and I'll send the PM.
Sign-ups close in ~11 hours, and we can't really postpone that deadline if we want that at least some people get their gifts by the end of the year. I'm sorry. Frown

Understandable, I misread the OP and thought it was midnight tonight, not noon. I missed out then, I can't blame anyone but myself.

I still do not like how is is too negative and acts as if every idea that he has is so awesome and perfect, even when they are not; he shall not be around forever, so I am certain that when he eventually resigns from WotC, many of the restrictions that he has placed upon this game shall be lifted, which shall be great for everyone.

You DO realize most of the restrictions come from development not Maro, right? He is the most public member of the company, and he takes a lot of flack that really shouldn't be directed at him because he is the one answering questions. Power level issues? Almost always a development restriction.

You can build him up as the villain ruining Magic, but when he isn't around anymore I don't see a whole lot changing. Could it get better? Maybe, anything can improve. Or it could get a lot worse. You have no idea who would replace him, and that they would be an improvement over Maro.

These aren't simply his views, he is just the one who communicates them. Most of these decisions are made:
A:) In the cardcrafting meetings open to design and development, where they discuss issues the game is facing. Maro isn't a dictator, and has conceded points many times when the majority are against him. He obviously has a role in these meetings, but they aren't a single person's decision.
B:) By development when they identify an issue.

    I'm running:

My cube is large (720) with a large multicolor section, so I am happy with 9. I'd really like to switch Kerenos back in, but I'm not sure what to cut. What do you guys think is weakest? I'm thinking Gelectrode, even though U/R spells matter is an archetype I support.

... Wizards avoids that issue because it is confusing, not because it doesn't work...

Matt Tabak, the rules manager, just confirmed on his tumblr that tokens can be put facedown. Which puts the topic of whether this works in the rules to bed. (http://tabakrules.tumblr.com/post/103244326824/face-down-rules-use-permanent-in-the-text-so-can-a)

You quoted me like you were trying to disprove something, but you just reiterated my statements. Yes, it is unlikely they would print it because it the ability is confusing. All I was trying to show was the rules didn't preclude this from being printed. It DOES work in the rules. Now whether it is likely they would print a card that would do this, that is another subject entirely (and a much more subjective one since cards at higher rarities are allowed to be confusing occasionally).

It is absolutely a fake, but just to clarify for some people the rules DO support facedown tokens. The comprehensive rules refer to facedown permanents, not facedown cards (even if that is what most people call them in person). Wizards avoids that issue because it is confusing, not because it doesn't work. That ability isn't necessarily proof that it is a fake. There is enough other evidence though that it really doesn't matter.

According to the rules, the 'starting player' is the player that won the toss/dice roll before the first game. The second game, there is no concept of starting player and the rules state that the loser of the first game gets to choose to play or draw.

At least, this is what I thought was the conclusion after this same discussion when Power Play was spoiled, and this is how we play it.

This was asked of Tabak on Tumblr shortly after Conspiracy was released, and he confirmed it affected all games not just the first.

I'm surprised to not see a discussion thread for this card, at least for larger cubes. Hexproof/Shroud are brutal mechanics on many cube creatures. It isn't the most common ability, but I think I would maindeck this in any deck that wasn't 3+ colors. Thoughts?

It's definitely good in a deck with lots of instants (e.g. Izzet Spells Matter), and it will lead to random blowouts, but I feel like it's much closer to a 720 roleplayer rather than a 360 staple.

720 roleplayer!? That sounds like something for my cube Smile

In all seriousness, I don't know what the cutoff in cube size for this is, but I expect this to have a home in 720 cubes for a long time.

What hero cards, objectively, do you think are powerful enough for cube? The Explorer, Harvester, and Warrior obviously are. I'm discounting the stickers for the equipment, since that isn't something you can get your hands on. The Slayer and Vanquisher seem ok. The Savant and The Warmonger are amazing for alpha strikes. And all of the equipment is pretty awesome when you get them for free. Those seem like the playable cards.
