  • posted a message on New (Rare) Dual Lands Confirmed for M10: But what will they be?
    My personal prediction -
    Rare R/G Karoo
    Land - Forest Mountain
When Rare R/G Karoo comes into play, sacrifice it unless you return an untapped forest or mountain you control to its owners' hand.
Tap: add RG to your mana pool

It's not too powerful, it's not painful, it cares about land types so it doesn't become abusive with a crazy mana base, it helps Domain, pros will like it but they won't fill decks with them due to the drawbacks, newbs will like it because it filters their mana with no pain. Making it so it would create 2 mana of any combination of R/G or any pertinent colors would probably be suitable as well but cranks the power level, which may or may not be OK.

  • posted a message on Need card ideas for t2 Reanimator.
I know a guy who runs some pretty decent t2 reanimation. He runs the loop of Doomed Necromancer and Reya Dawnbringer, along with 4 Whispersilk Cloaks, Platinum Angel, Godsire, and Thousand-Year Elixir.
His reanimation is solely Doomed Necromancer and Makeshift Mannequin, with a bit of countermagic and card draw from mulldrifters. Essentially he lets the activated and triggered abilities of Necro and Reya carry him to victories while cloaks protect Reya or the platties. The deck is annoying to stop with conventional disruption, but is pretty vulnerable to sideboards. Looter serves for draw/discard. Creature choices are largely aesthetic after a certain point in most reanimation provided they're appropriately lethal and evasive. Standard has some fairly awesome fatties to choose from.

  • posted a message on Jitte = Casual
The Jitte can and will roll somebody who isn't prepared for it and some people who are, just like Vedalken Shackles, 'Geddon, Devastating Dreams, or one of a host of other cards.
I play with a few friends, and I personally dislike it because I've seen it used more often to make up for poor deck construction and subpar card choices, sort of like Maze of Ith. In multiplayer, sure, the Jitte isn't the force of reckoning it is 1v1, or in EDH where people pack answers to everything and there are always generals. It sure isn't one of those cards that has such a huge impact that recovering from it is impossible or close to it against an aggressive clock like Desolation Angel, but it's a frustrating bit of equipment and definitely not something that should be considered "fair" against some Bant deck.
In terms of "casual", there's too much variation for one working definition, but in terms of "fair", the situation is a lot clearer.

  • posted a message on Will it ever be possible to travel through time backwards or forwards?
Time dilation exists, certainly. But what makes people think there's a past to travel to? Or a future? You head off into the future, whoops, it isn't made yet, there's nowhere to go, you head to the past, but why should it be like a computer and have saved a version of the past? If such a version exists, why should change ripple through time if two different moments of time can operate independantly?

  • posted a message on Help with my first standard deck
Decks come in a couple flavors - aggro: essentially creature beats backed up by burn and spot removal; control: lock down the board to some degree then swing for the win with large finishers; aggro-trol: some combination of the both; and combo: the interactions of various cards to create a game state where your opponent gets all confused and loses somehow.

Creating a deck based off what you got is a good idea, you can make some fun stuff out of it. Some of the rares you've got would be nice as the big finishers of some theme decks, go and give it a shot, what've you got to lose?

If the theme you're going for is control, that's great, but Magic is ultimately all about the commons and uncommons until it comes to two things - your mana base, and your finishers. Most of the cards on the deck list I came up with are commons/uncommons, so building that list would be pretty cheap. The Ethersworn Adjudicator is a pretty good finisher, the pseudo-vigilance it posesses is probably the strongest aspect besides the relatively cheap flyer. If you need to keep Mortifying things and the Adjudicator stays in play, something is terribly wrong, but the Adjudicator may pull off a win too. When building a deck, it's better to create a list, proxy whatever you don't have and play it out, then adapt it before you buy the cards.

The above poster is right, in as much as sticking to fewer colors will be better for you. If you like control, I would recommend pulling back from 5 color and running W/U/B or U/x. You're missing a few cards that are in type 2 that would make your deck stronger - here's a bunch of budget commons and uncommons you can make good use of: Oblivion Ring, Condemn, Remove Soul, Negate, Broken Ambitions, Infest, possibly Raven's Crime, Pollen Lullaby, Syphon LIfe, and I'm sure I'm missing a few.

As control, you'll probably want to screen yourself with some smaller, difficult to kill creatures and finish with large, evasive fat. If you lean on U/B/W, you could make something like this.

Edit: Ugh, what's with the tags? Anyway, you're allowed 15 cards for a sideboard, I would recommend that you grab some Vedalken Outlander or Burrenton Forge Tender for RDW, Esper Charm for Fae and Tokens, and Celestial Purge helps handle tokens and RDW. Faeries will probably give you a beating, a fourth Infest side may offer some respite, but anyone who poured money into Fae and plays it well will give you a sound thrashing. Good luck!

Yes, your 1/1 critters will have been deep fried by Volcanic Fallout. Mirror Entitys ability goes on the stack, then your opponent puts Volcanic Fallout on top, it resolves first and cooks everything.

Should they reprint shocks, it will make zoo and domain builds in type 2 tourney viable - Matca Rioters and exploding borders are already some pretty tempting reasons to try and make R/G domain beats work.

I wouldn't hold my breath over shocks given the paranoia over basic land types, but given the current condition of things, it wouldn't surprise me if WotC reprinted them to boost sales and make domain work more smoothly.

  • posted a message on Beginning of phase triggers
If there are two identical cards in play such as Anvil of Bogardan or Dark Confidant whose effect triggers at the beginning of a phase, do these effects stack or do they both resolve on the same card?

I'm kinda shocked that nobody has mentioned this after 10 pages of silliness that ranges from Engineered Explosives to Necropotence, but a reasonable card to reprint, and I think that should be a part of every core set from now on, is Pithing Needle. Powerful, elegant, not abuseable, and entirely defensive, the Needle deserves a spot in 11th.
