I think it's still a good spell, and it performs well in the kinds of decks that want it. But I could certainly see cutting it from small cubes; slots are competitive.

I like it, and I called it the sleeper of the set in my top 20 article. It's definitely a good Magic card. Thumbs Up

This is another card that has performed well for me recently. If you support the artifact.dec or artifact-heavy beatdown decks, it's very strong.

This card is solid. It's not at Fable's level (or anything close to it, really) but it's a decent card. I've been testing it for a bit, and I recently gave it a permanent slot. Happy to have it around, and it performs just fine.

Laelia / Bombardier/ Gut/ Squee are all fine for me as they have haste or pump out a "haste" creature. However, the OG rabblemaster has just been too slow recently for me.

    Confused

OG Rabblemaster does pump out a haste creature. And it presents the fastest clock of any 3cc creature in the cube. Shrugs

    Laelia, the Blade Reforged
    Bonecrusher Giant
    Death-Greeter's Champion
    Plundering Barbarian
    Broadside Bombardiers
    Squee, Dubious Monarch
    Gut, True Soul Zealot
    Goblin Rabblemaster
    Legion Warboss

I assume Fable of the Mirror-Breaker is already in in some other capacity? Otherwise it would be pretty high on this list...

Edit Bonus: Tidehollow Sculler vs Gerrard's Verdict

Tidehollow Sculler if you have specific combos to break up, otherwise Gerrard's Verdict for value.

Agreed. A lot of cubes don't play manlands in every guild, and I think these are better than all but the best manlands since they're fetchable. Surveil duals will generally outperform most manlands in most games, IMO.

I'm also testing them out over all but the top-tier manlands to see how they do. I expect them to perform better in a lot of situations too.

I don't know if I agree that it's been badly managed, and I'm happy they're exploring new things.

Either way, I'll explain why I elected to make my changes, and that's all I can do. Smile

Thanks as always for these! As I've said before, they are so helpful when I'm returning to sets to see if I missed any cards that were worth adding.

You're welcome! Glad you enjoy them.

I was surprised to see Delney, Streetwise Lookout miss the top 20 on such an underwhelming set. Looks pretty fun, but people are trying to hype it as a chase card, so I'm not getting one.

Looks like a fine card, but white 3cc creatures are super competitive, and the combination of limitations feels like it'll wind up being quite narrow. Certainly on the radar though.

I've find people have been cutting them.

I don't think I'd play them under 630 in size, personally. Especially not now that there's a better version out there.

Thanks a lot as usual for the article. As you know it is very well appreciated by the community Smile

I do agree to most things and specially about the hard to fit mechanics like morph v3 and collect.

I think the only one card/s I differ more with you are the surveil lands. In the past I had temples in my cube and loved how they worked. They had to go precisely because lacking of basic land types. Now that they're back and tweaked perfectly to me I'm planning to remove fetchable tri-lands cycle in favor of them. Reason is I felt kind of boring the ultra-fixing they were and the cycling cost is too much to be used often. I like much more the decission and play style scry/surveil puts in play rather than paying mana to get a card for 3 mana (triomes) or 2 mana (amonkhet dual ones).

Loved to see the blue equipment. I would have totally missed it without you.

    Thanks again!!

    You're most welcome!

The surveil lands are great, but entering tapped is a huge cost. I can look past that drawback when it fixes 3+ colors of mana or can double as a win condition, but it's hard to ignore that drawback just for added utility. These are better than Temples by a lot. But not being fetchable wasn't the problem with Temples ...it was entering the battlefield tapped. I expect them to play out great as 1-of lands in older 60+ card formats where they can be fetched for surveil value when the tempo loss doesn't hurt, but I really struggle with the idea of playing them over an untapped guild land where I have a choice. Just my $0.02.

Edit: FWIW, I am testing the surveil duals for a while in place of other ETB tapped lands to see how they perform. I'm crossing my fingers that they play well.

We have reached a point where standard cards have little effect on cubes now.

Well, this one is low impact, but they're not all that way.

    Thanks for commenting! Smile

Thank you as always for the content! Like most people, this set is on the weaker side.

I do think the Surveil lands are better than people are giving them credit for, especially in cubes that care about the graveyard. They're still safely below Triomes to me, but being fetchable is huge.

One card I'm into that you didn't mention is Aftermath Analyst. Besides thinking it's not a top 20 card in the set, what's your opinion of it?

    You're welcome!

Analyst could be good with a big self mill theme if you support something like Valakut combo too. But at face value, it seems pretty meh to me.

Once again, thanks for writing these reviews! I'm sorry I don't have anything insightful to say here. It's just not a good set for cube, so I got nothin'. With a 465-card cube, this set is a total bust.

    Cheers,

Ya, this one was nice on the ol' wallet at least. Shrugs

This was just a terrible set. Escape Tunnel is likely the only card I’ll be adding - I’m an advocate for evolving wilds variants

Who doesn't like a good Evolving Wilds variant? :p

Huge props to you for finding 20 cards in this set worth talking about. Bringing back Morph in 2024... good grief.

The supplemental sets (CLU, MKC) had a few decent hits for cubes of smaller sizes, but ya... not an impressive main set for cubes. Frown
