Correct, the ultra fast Zoo decks do not change much, just a tiny bit.

However, your deck becomes also a tiny bit more "random" ; as you need something to make steppe lynx awesome ; and a 2/3 will never trade against the other 2/3 which makes games more stall like.

A pretty good question is how to keep Affinity in check if Red/Green isnt dominating anymore ; the amount of Ancient Grudge and friends decreases enough (as allways, its a matter of how much hate you have against Affinity in your MetaGame).

I played UWb Gifts Reanimator like, pretty crazy against anything except super fast Zoo / Affinity lists (and packing too much main deck against them makes your deck extrem bad).

Well no matter what, Modern is actual fun, it just seems that its not that different , a format with Zoo viable allways seems kinda bad (as Aggro decks that run 5-color is just hilarious).

I will have them all. As RUG is my favorite wedge, and I love cascade and big creatures and Animar, I just squealed a bit.

I also hope against hope that there will be a new GU legendary creature in the mix, something jungle-esque in flavor. If it's aura-based (Savage Auras? Hmmm?), I will crap myself with glee.

Also, GU currently only has 3 legendary creatures to choose from, the fewest of all the color combos (save 4-color of course). That is reason enough to include a new GU legend - YOU HEAR ME WIZARDS?

I will be spending money on this either way.

For the color combination this seems to be an super awesome Commander.

With Momir and Animar it can even "combo" out.

Seems to be an awesome card, and i highly enjoy this products exactly for this type of creature / which pretty much does not matter at all for a "normal" magic set and they can easily produce cards that are just cool without a real story background.

The "offical" Planechase rulez kinda suck ; but its not difficult to use them in a normal EDH game to spice something up.

A "Venser" deck would gradually gain card avantage, probably through use the use of a lot of 187 creatures... they make the deck run alright without Venser in play, then he just makes them stupid.

After he lands, you just use that to gain board position by flickering your own things- probably at least a couple that create tokens, others that draw cards, and having Soul Warden/Soul's Attendant. Reveillark as a rare would be nice, given that lots of 187 creatures are 2/2 or less, and Venser triggers it. I'd not be shocked to see Momentary Blink, either. (Because if that's the theme you'd build around, having an instant speed blink available is a very good thing.

With such cards, it would play a control role, use them to gain card advantage and board position, and then make all of the creatures unblockable and swing for the win.

Flavourwise Venser is a Planeswalker of "Teleportation" Magic ; so in this view cards that support this flavour will do best, 187 creatures ofcourse, but not only.

Journey to Nowhere fits quite well for flavour.

Blinking Spirit aswell ; even if it does not work directly with venser ; supports Vensers teleportation idea.

This seems very powerful and I'm happy red finally gets some love - especially color-pie-wisely.

I was so annoyed when I realized Snapcaster would have made the same sense in red, but pushed blue into even further bonkersness.

Snapcaster in Red would make way more sence ; but they choose to push it , as everything is better in blue.

I tried the card in some decks from Dredge to RedBurn and it works pretty good.

In Red Burn its allmost like a draw 2 spell, it further helps to power up Grim Lavamancer, fuel your Unearth/Flashback burn and in late can ditch your useless lands for more burn.

In Dredge it works decent with Lions Eye and the only problem is with the Threshold Land ; which is also good enough but produces blue only.

So far, the uses of the card are a lot higher than for Careful Study ; as flashback on this effect is extrem valuable and being red offers uses in decks that otherwise could not work with a blue splash (or do way worser).

Flashback seems to be fair enough with Lions Eye Diamond ; the manabase has to shift ofcourse to support more red.

But theirs also this draw 3 discard 3 random card ; might be something to consider a more red version.

When ~ dies, return each other creature card with power less than ~ power from your graveyard to the battlefield.
    6/6

Maybe it makes sence to say "other creature" , otherwise its a combo with Body Double nearly the same way it is with Reveillark (just even more insane).

If this card is played, then in such combos, i do not know if the part with -1/-1 counters is necessary at all ; as it also limits the possible sets this card can go in ; because normally a set restricts itself to either +1/+1 or -1/-1 counters, but never both.

If the card wants to exist for itself, without a brandmark to be a combo card, it could be a little more work around like:

    Another Experimental Specimen 1G
    Creature - Ooze Mutant (R)
    Trample
When ~ dies, return each other creature card with power less than ~ power from your graveyard to the battlefield.
    1/1

Seems strange ? It really is and to make it work you either need "graft" which all are 0/0 in your grave (which is pretty crazy strong) or some other way to increase its power, either with Equipment or anything else.

  • posted a message on Grimgrin EDH, How would you build it?
A nice combo to add is Bloodline Keeper + Necrotic Ooze with Grim Grin in your grave.

Another is a heavy Zombie Focus with Living Death / Patriarchs Bidding.

Its just bad that most Zombies are plain bad.

For more flavour the "Necronomicon" , together with Liliana / Jace produce wonders.

With all the self mill you can fuel a lot of the blue/black stuff.

Well, Worldwake only had one walker, Jace the Mind Sculptor... also Mirrodin Besieged only had Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas and New Phyrexia had Karn Liberated and no other walker. So your argument is flawed.

Well Karn might qualify for "super important flavour" , while Tezzeret and Jace are points i take.

Just an FYI knowingly doing this and not calling a judge will get you DQ for cheating.

On topic i liek the white one. God batch of 4 of Uncommons, and a few decent rares, but like all decks need to be adjusted.

Not sure why the GUB one doesn't use the new 2 sided looter. Probably didn't want to put double face card in them, since then people need checklists or card sleeves to play in FNM.

Correct. Fighting cheating with cheating on your own isnt the goal.

So if someone does it, call a judge, they explain or give proper answers.

*In FNM telling the player is actual enough so they wont make it again ; as for a bunch its a ritual to stack the decks like that, then shuffle again ; they argue they shuffle after anyway ; but its not that obvisious for them that it has no effect if they properly shuffle (and then they "doom" you for removing their "luck" , quite something).

I can feel you, the Scars block also had 5 walkers in it.

But it was an exception to have Nicol Bolas "alone".

Normally they want a fair distribution ; while Nicol Bolas is special enough to be the main aspect of a singel set.

So i do not think they will make a set with just 1 walker ; unless they need this super "super" important flavour ; and theirs no real other walker that would justify it.

  • posted a message on Costing life gain competitively
Well lifegain never saw real play unless its repeatable or "infinited".

And even infinited life will only help you if the opponent is really a pur beatdown ; and you have a real chance to win aswell (otherwise they can sit out, and nobody wins, which is clearly worse than winning).

Pulse of the Fields is the best lifegain spell in view of how it actual works.

Its just pure lifegain, but gives a real mini game itself thats not just buying time ; with manaburn viable it was a great card.

Lifegain in general just counters burn spells and acts like "fog" or multiple "fogs" at least early.

So to be competitive , your life must be high enough to give a control deck the chance to get in the late game, while not so stupid much that no aggro deck could beat it.

Stuff like Timely Reinforcement gives lifegain spells a real reason, it works more than good and its a real weapon against red decks / aggro in general.

Theirs Trophy Hunter and the likes that do a great job.

They are super strong in limited like any repeatable removal, but the only chance to make this keyword work somehow is to give it some kind of interaction that does not simply read "do not block me if you do not need to."

  • posted a message on How broken, if at all, is this card
    Well i see 2 problems.

    1)
The number is way too low so the cost reduction + removal of colors from spells is a problem.

    2)
The number is too high so the cost increase hinders players to play anything.

Both is problematic, an existing "working" card with a similiar idea is Augustin.

He reduces your spells and increases the ones of your opponent.

Has more or less the idea of this card without the problematic parts.

Whats the "actual" idea of the card anyway ?

    Hate on small spells ?

    Love big spells ?

    Be an annoying creature ?
(like Aven Mindsensor, its just "annoying", but pretty usefull actual)

Some specific ideas that could work :

    *Use of phyrexian mana.
**No idea how to make phyrexian mana costs here, might edit it.

Blood for the blood mage UBR
    Creature - Skeleton, Wizard
Each spell with a converted manacost equal to or smaller than 6 costs an additional 6 mana.
Manacosts can be paid as they would be phyrexian mana.
    3/3

Extremly makes spells more expensive, but at least allows to work around and play the removal for this card with a heavy life cost to avoid that it totally locks down.

However, if you play counterspells you can for a high life cost save your guy; which might be pretty good.

Numbers are adjustable, but the use of phyrexian might fix something.

    The Guy UW
    Creature - Human, Wizard
~ enters the battlefield with 6 anoying counters on it.
At the beginning of each upkeep if no spell was played during the last turn, remove an annoying counter from ~.
Spells with an converted manacost less than 6 cost an additional 1 mana for each annoying counter on ~.
    2/2

Might be strong enough and could work with a werwolf theme to keep players from casting spells for some turns (but not for eternity).

    Hasty Preperation red mana
    Sorcery (U)
Draw two cards, then discard two cards.
The best plan is none at all.

    Feels like Winds of Change.

If you place madness in red like they did in Planar Chaos, this card would easily work.

The ridiculous use of "random" in this effects for red is something that makes me cry ; nobody really likes to play random effects like this, it might work with reds "chaos" theme, but its such a niche card. red deserves better : otherwise its the color that just can play burn and is good for nothing else (beside some combo cards).

    Offensive Formation :2mana::symw:
    Enchantment (R)
    Creatures can't block.
    Tactics are for cowards.

This is actual a red card for extrem. In White this seems wrong.

Yea it could actual work, as white gets protection, which avoids blocks ; so "somehow" you can justify it, while it simply lacks a real feeling for white.

    Phase :2mana::symu:
    Instant (R)
Exile each creature you control. Return those cards to the battlefield under their owner's control at the beginning of the next end step.
The Aether takes what it gives.

Well in fact this could be a cheaper, as Ghostly was made with combat damage on the stack and stuff like that ; this could be a cool card for something like an 1U cost, which acts as an answer to wrath effects and allows nice interactions with Snapcaster / Eternal Witness to reuse it.

Like pretty much everything, this is really better in blue.

    Revered Nantuko :symg::symg:
    Creature- Insect Shaman (R)
:symg:: Revered Nantuko gets +1/+1 until end of turn.
    2/1

In fact the shade was a nice card at a time were mono black was really pushed and most opponents did not have insane creatures.

In green the shade just sucks, i have no idea how you can imagine this to be "strong" in green.

Omnath is actual the green shade and million times stronger than this, still pretty bad in the end for constructed and just fine enough for some casual fun.

    Spectral Fiend :3mana::symb::symb:
    Creature- Spirit Horror (M)
    Trample
Whenever Spectral Fiend attacks, if defending player controls no green permanents, it doesn't untap during your next untap step.
    8/8

Would work, but making this "mythic" seems to be a kick in the face.

The Spectral Force was nice as a fat finisher for green, which became the strangely aggressive color in Planar Chaos with Ball Lightnings and all that stuff.

In black however, you have way stronger stuff than this, and drawbacks are more or less not done anymore currently ; the rares and mythics are just upside.

I can see this more in blue, which has more fatty sized creatures with drawbacks that do not untap unless your opponent has something ; especially as blue can change colors aswell, which might come in handy here as a mini sub theme.
