Looks like they had some art for a "ice" themed card and slapped it on here.

Thats what bogs me with these alt arts, a bunch of them just barely look like they even where meant to be the card in the first place ...

Its too much for a long time.

The entire concept of WotC with "Not all product is made for you" is pretty bad for people that actually want to stay engaged with the game, as they actively want you to basically ignore a bunch of products they make, which you dont want to.

If people would do what WotC is trying to do, they would just play 1 set of magic each year and ignore anything else, but clearly that "cant" be what WotC ACTUALLY wants, they want to make as much money as possible, so the wheels need to be turning quickly.
    It also splinters the players.
As right now we have Streets of new Capenna for draft and at the same time Baldurs Gate, so instead of all playing the same, we get just a bunch of players here and some for the other, which actually fractures the players, instead of having them enjoy a set together, thats far worse experience for me then it was.

With double masters coming, we will have THREE sets for draft, and it just gets worse increasingly.

For a shop buying product of all these sets is also bad, as each set is in addition to that splintered into draft/set/collectors packs, and only one of these really has value in each set, and the others will be hard to sell.

I would advocate to make draft packs only, and actually put collector cards into them (just like Masterpieces did, that worked in a way that was sustainable).

Not changing it to "Phyrexian" can only be a very silly mistake.

Maybe they Errata it even ? Possible in my book.

It should be Phyrexian, without question.

They should've started phasing cards out of the reserved list five years ago. What they should do now is announce that in 10 years a huge number of cards (not including p9) will leave the reserved list. Then in another 10 years after that, the reserved list will be abolished completely. Is anybody gonna be THAT mad that in 20 years the game will be playable again? It's not like old moxen will lose all value. It's not like they would print the cards into the ground (like I with they would). But that's neither here nor there. Just stating the obvious. For every one person who likes the reserved list, there are probably 500 who HATE HATE HATE it.

This set looks cool. I'd pay $4 a pack for it. Heck, I'd even pay $6. But ya know. This isn't for people who like games. It's extortion for people who have been told it's okay to be extorted.

We're supposed to be impressed by all this from a $16 pack. But I say "when will you print it for real?"

It almost doesn't matter what they put in these packs. I'm deeply incensed by this.

If it turns out for some reason the packs are indeed WORTH the 16 bucks, well, then its at least not a complete rip off.

But that said, its a premium product of a luxury card game, so ignore the mega expensive cards, and anything else will be basically "free" as these packs will be opened A LOT if they recoup the money easily.

Especially because the packs are so expensive, the vast majority of people will buy Singles, so the places that do mass openings will have a field day.

For FNM drafts in my place i already asked them if they will just give out these expensive packs as prices instead of regular draft/set boosters , so that can also be fine.

    ----

The bigger problem is that they sugarcoat this set to make the 16$ price tag easier to swallow.

If they keep doing that, they will run out of "easy" reprints, and the value plummets quickly (as seen with basically any product they do that with).

So the trend to make stuff more premium and more expensive is certainly bad, especially if they talk about bringing more people to the game, this kind of product certainly does the opposite, as its milking the whales and not new players.

I don't think they'll abolish but most likely modify/amend if able to. Makes you wonder if they plan on making an announcement about the RL for MTG's 30 anniversary with sweeping amendments to it.

    'buster

Theres no way they ever get rid of the Reserved List.

For casual formats like Commander its basically common practice to proxy the lands, even if you have them (as durdling around with them is just too expensive).

So there is just a tiny subset of cases where people actually "need" the real card to play a tournament for Legacy or Vintage, anything else basically allows proxies by now anyway.

The Mana Vault looks like its art from Capenna, like an actual vault (with treasures in it).

Its a bit massive in scale, but it looks cool at least.

The Senseis Top looks more like a Bayblade to me, thats a bit too much.

They have to "justify" the 16$ per pack ...

    So, BUY SINGLES.

For the part of "mark this card" , sure its a worthless common, but in the end i would still put it in a inner sleeve and mark the sleeve instead.

The idea to MARK an actual card and to ask players to do that in a non-Un set is mind boggling to me ... (but WotC never disappoints with that)

That Teferis Protection borderless looks pretty badass.

The fact that Dockside is MYTHIC is just a kick in the balls, that card had to be in Commanders Legends and they intentionally did not.
And to make it mythic is just nasty, thats not fair game, its predatory evil.

Because it's not just the cards. The bundle also includes a custom life counter, deck box, and sleeves that I'm guessing would probably be logistically difficult to just create more of.

People would buy it without that stuff, just a package of cards.

Not only Magic cards, but should apply to help you in general:

    24-tips-for-making-playing-cards-last

    ----

I never had any cards become brittle, but in general i have a safe of expensive cards in a room that is cool, dark and dry, nothing extra put into it.

Foils especially warp and get damaged if the conditions are changing, so if its dry and then humid, or they get in sunlight for some time, thats really bad.

Whats probably more reasonable is to get some sealing gel to make sure your safe is more or less air-tight and waterproof, so tiny slits are filled.

Then if nothing gets in or out, it should be quite condensed, and for the little humid inside, if you have a very humid environment, a small pack should probably do it to soak up humidity 1 time (as after that, no extra humidity should find its way inside for any meaningful effect).

If you open and close it much more often, well, could put the cards themselves in a air-tight container as well, in addition to the safe.

Not enough fish in the Remora, distracting from the star.

But someone clearly feed the fish quite a lot how monstrously big it got.

Treasure tokens are the new big thing of WotC.

They did a bunch of them with a super high powerlevel for Commander games, and now they made a ton of them, in multiple sets.

Streets of New Capena also has a lot of treasures, and the D&D sets have stupid amounts of treasures as well.

For the most part the treasure cards are still overall "bad" , as hating on artifacts can be pretty easy if you pack the cards to do so.

And if a player relies on treasures, they are hurt badly then.

dockside extortionist and Smothering tithe are simply "Mistakes" , and all the mistakes define a format they are legal in.

Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer is on multiple levels stupid, and the incarnation of WotC pushing a card endlessly to sell packs.

    ----

For me treasures are not "bad" or too strong, but its a lazy way to add some value to a card, just like adding "draw a card" or "scry 1" to an effect, put a treasure on it, people will like it.

That every color gets color fixing in that way is a bit of a stretch that bleeds green of its identity to have easy color fixing, but WotC doesnt care for the color pie anymore anyway, they basically dont design cards for mono color anymore, but for color pairs (as any set features at least 2 color pairs, or 3-color, as mono color is much more difficult to design reasonable Commander decks around and then it might not have enough legendary creatures to work with).

Treasures felt fine with just a handful of cards that made them.

Now , we have so many of them, its basically "Inflation" in Magic, everyone gets lots of treasures, so they are not special anymore at all.

    ----

To strip treasures of the broken nature of fast mana, having them ALL enter tapped would nullify that.

Its still ramp, but then they dont act like "rituals" to boost your mana the same turn.

But WotC will never change the treasure design at this point, we simply have way too many of them already.
