Frenzied Goblin is an incredible downshift. This card is a lot more powerful than it reads, much like Intimidator Initiate. Very exciting.
Hordeling Outburst is also very exciting, and it makes me reconsider Raise the Alarm/Krenko's Command and look at another mass pump to go with it, like Rites of Initiation or perhaps Weapon Surge. Also some nice incidental support for potential sacrifice themes/archetypes. We might be at the point where there are just enough enablers for that deck, certainly something I'm going to take a look at when we have all our spoilers.
I check this forum infrequently. I saw new posts in this thread and went "great I still need to do my update! Maybe they're results of testing!"
That's not what it was and I can't believe I read the whole thing. Just because the topic wasn't being discussed doesn't make this the right place to go off on modern design... anyway.
What AKH cards have people included and tested favorably? Not interested in rehashing the argument about Bloodlust Inciter because I know some people were really opposed to it but I guess testing results there are good. Green Cartouche? Black Cartouche? What's been decent, what's been unexciting, what's overperformed?
Consider Sylvan Might as a Wildsize that always draws a trick. Granted the second trick, they know about, but just because the trick is face up (assuming the opponent doesn't forget about it, which CAN happen) doesn't make it less effective. It means you can't ambush the opponent with it, sure, but your 2/2 still attacks into their 3/3 just as effectively. Eventually they make you use it, and that's fine, but it's hard for it not to let you trade up or get a card out of the flashback. For two mana up front I'm very happy about that. EDIT: This is aside from getting value from being looted/dumped with any number of Grisly Salvage effects
Ravings is tough for me, I was initially very excited about it because I really love the card, but I think in the long run it's hard to use a guild slot on a card whose average case scenario is a bit above Think Twice. I think if I had 4 cards per guild section I'd play it, but as it stands I like it less than Frostburn Weird and Izzet Chronarch, and obviously Jilt is on top.
since there are no cards to discuss yet, im totally fine with discussing current state of the game and desing in general.
Sure, but why does that need to happen here, where we will be discussing cards as they come up?
Anyway all I'm taking away from your posts are that you're nostalgic for the way magic used to be and just want to complain about that. I'll agree with Leelue that I think you're just being a curmudgeon. Please, take that to another thread.
The last thing I'll say on the topic is if you are so displeased with new cards, why not simply build a cube that works the way you want magic to work? Just take the initiative rather than complaining about the change of direction that R&D has taken (which I think is a positive one, but you clearly have another view here and I'm not interested in arguing with you about it), and let others enjoy the game as they see fit too.
