I like Mirror Entity in here as a possible win condition. Also some minor tribal synergies. A lot of tutors our not budget but I would consider adding in anything that makes getting to Coastal Piracy or Bident of Thassa more consistent. Faith's Reward is a possible answer to Supreme Verdict. Also I don't know how your group feels about mass LD but having some options to reset lands once you have a board presence built up could be good. I assume Serra Ascendant is left out for budget reasons?
Thanks, yeah I think that may be part of the difference between the commanders, as was pointed out earlier, Tymna the weaver doesn't really get quite as out of hand as Edric, so it is less reliable that you'll keep drawing into turns to chain them.
I find that I usually only counter wraths and blow-out effects that would knock me completely out of the game. It may be a mistake, but I tend to not stop people from killing my commander, since I can replay her (admittedly doing so costs me effectively a whole turn, so maybe this isn't the smartest thing).
Like I said, I don't want to derail the thread, I know this is the Edric thread, just figured I'd ask a few questions since the strategies are similar. But since you were kind enough to ask, here is a decklist:
it's pretty budget as of now, so there's a number of improvements that are sort of obvious (no mystical tutor, for example). still, any advice appreciated. I've made thread for it here
OK cool I'll take a look and leave comments in your thread.
Botanical Sanctum is great. By the time you're ready to play your 4th land you should have enough extra lands you don't need to play it and it can simply be discarded like when you draw Gemstone Caverns.
Thanks, yeah I agree that Edric is stronger than Tymna the weaver, just thought i'd go a different direction, and i like what black and white offer.
Yeah i see your point RE swan song, especially since the most common evasion here is flying.
Mystical Tutor counts as an extra turn card. I tried it with more of them but you usually don't want them in your opening hand and once you start to snowball it's not too hard to find more. Passing with lots of counterspells doesn't always get the job done so I might see running more if you're in a group where there are lots of things that are difficult to answer with counterspells.
I don't have the PM anymore but he was offering to trade me English foils since he didn't need them anymore. It's not even the expense that's a problem it's actually finding the cards, especially Japanese foils.
Would playing snow-covered lands be slightly better in case that comes up in a game?
Also Donald I've been working on foiling your deck out for quite a while now because I love it so much. That land base tho..
The only times I’ve seen snow lands come up is with Wake of Destruction, Extraplanar Lens and if you run Mouth of Ronom or Scrying Sheets (or I suppose Skred). I think it’s more likely someone drops Extraplanar Lens than you get hit by Wake of Destruction so maybe a meta call if the guy running Lens has snow lands? If there's any other reason to swap I'd like to know.
I’m so far from foiling my deck it’s not funny. I have most of the cheap stuff but have been focusing on foiling my cube which is using up all my trade stock. Then you have the stupid stuff (Cradle, Mana Drain, FoW) so it’s going to take me like 10 years to finish…I got a PM from a guy a few years ago that said he had Japanese foiled his whole Edric deck o.O.
He's powerful, but I think him a bad card for the format overall, and thus very much not a "best" card. I don't think him quite awful enough to deserve banning, in part because nobody breaks Leovold unintentionally, but breaking him is so obvious and so easy that I wouldn't miss him if he did get banned. YMMV, particularly if you play in a more competitive manner or are part of a more competitive metagame.
The "it's bad because it's good" argument? Doesn't seem like the right place for this.
I'm pseudo-in the market for a deckbox that comfortably fits a double sleeved deck, but I think I'm a lot more likely to grab or make something nice and (probably) wooden. I double sleeved Jaya after a near miss with some iced coffee, so the deck doesn't fit in the old box anymore. I kind of want to move past fat pack box given the amount of time and money sunk into that deck.
I got a travel case from Aaron Cain (has some YouTube videos). He's got some cool looking commander boxes. I did have a couple minor complaints, there was a ding in one if the corners and light clamp marks on the lid, but overall I'm happy with it.
Ajani Unyielding seems like straight up good stuff. I know Elspeth, Sun's Champion saw a bit of play in the deck once upon a time, and while Ajani isn't going big with tokens, it provides an incredible amount of card advantage for a single planeswalker, especially in such and instant and sorcery-light deck like this one. Definitely my pick for the set.
Renegade Rallier, if only you were a 2/2. It's a powerful effect, but it has two very big downsides, the first of which is it's a recursion piece that isn't 2 power or less, meaning we can't get it with Reveillark, but we can get it with Recruiter of the Guard. Secondly, revolt may be too hard to trigger in the deck.
Every mode on Ajani is good for this deck. As you said there is a lot of value to be gained from the +2, more creature removal is always welcome and the ultimate will often be game ending. I also don't think it's unreasonable for him to stick around for multiple turns if you + him right away. I will definitely consider him but have not picked one up yet.
I really with Renegade Rallier would make the cut but I think he has a few too many shortcomings to make it in. If I ran Saffi I think I would be more inclined to give him a go.

Heroic Intervention looks strong too.
Also from C16, what about Sidar Kondo? It reads that all of your swarm (unpumped) get through.
Benefactor's Draught could untap Rhys and also prevent crack backs on a big turn with some card draw too
Maybe some corner cases, but those are other ones that could be interesting
Heroic Intervention went straight into Edric but here I would prefer a creature version for accessibility. You lose the surprise factor but can get the effect when you need it with Dauntless Escort if I wanted a back up to Selfless Spirit. Sidar Kondo is cool. I don't think I would get a lot of value from him though as the deck tends to win out of nowhere and making blocking irrelevant. I don't run many anthems but that is also a thing that doesn't interact very well with him (though Mirror Entity is pretty sweet). Benefactor's Draught is such an odd card I don't know how to evaluate it. It's currently in my commander cube so I'm waiting to see how it plays out there before I give it much thought for constructed commander.
All interesting cards for sure, I do agree Ajani is probably the best of the bunch.
I didn't. Best pulls were a pair of Fatal Pushes, but I didn't get that one drop artifacts creature that you can sac to silence a player, so that was nice.
I got one at my prerelease too. Straight into Edric.

Do you happen to have a list for your Tymna deck?
