I am slowly seeing more and more of that broken as hell combo stuff around. Its not really in my meta but just traveling around I am seeing more of it. I really don't like it as the current banned list is not at all fit for that level of play so they almost need to like.... go play some other format or make their own banned list that is built for that. I also don't like it because multiplayer does NOT scale well into that style of play.
I went to play a modern FNM event at a city about an hour from me and before it started I was watching 3 people playing and their games kept ending on like turns 2-5. I don't see the appeal for that in a multiplayer format.
I think that style of play is fine as long as everyone is on the same page but it's pretty miserable when 1 guy has a broken deck and the others have a casual deck.
Went for it. Bought into a modern RW Norin list to try out the league structure because that deck is a ton of fun. Playing through a friendly league now. The interface is a little bit of a pain, but it's manageable. I'll probably buylist stuff next week and pick up something more legacy competitive.
No immediate plans to build EDH, but I'll have the cards at some point by virtue of playing eternal formats.
You'll get used to it. F6 and F8 are your friends. Also make sure you have all your stops set like you want them.
EDH is really hit or miss. There will often be someone with a broken deck in the games but there's still some fun games to be had. I haven't played myself since they meseed up the banlist but I think things are fixed now.
As is right and good. That's usually the reason I don't run it though. It's also a bad card if you're not doing something horrendously unfair with it, so it's not very appealing to me.
I'm considering trying out MTGO to get occasional competitive legacy/modern games in. Any of the MTGO regulars have words of wisdom before I pull the trigger? Planning on buylisting a bunch of stuff to Cape Fear for MTGOtraders credit, so I'll be able to put together a solid deck without having to spend much actual money on it.
I'd give it a shot. The interface is bad and you'll lose a lot of games to misclicks when you start but it plays Magic, handles all the rules and leagues/general play testing is very convenient. Decks are also substantially cheaper but it's still an investment. I'm more than happy to run through some games and show you around if you want to get started.
I'm using PucaTrade to get second copies of everything in my cube. I'm almost at 5 decks that barely draw from it and have zero overlap. Once everything is nice and updated I'll fix my signature and make proper decklists.
I finally had to branch out to Cardsphere. Hated to do it as Puca has been very good to me but I needed to diversify. Getting foils is a lot tougher than nonfoils.
Kind of random but I took Edgar Markov and I tried moving to Edric tactics with it lol. My deck has an average mana cost under 1.5 per card lol. My first thoughts when this was happening was.... oh god we are doing this again hu....
That sounds awesome! I haven't picked up Edric in a long time but I'm getting back into constructed commander. Recently I finally broke down and proxied up my cube. I'm very much anti proxy but I had over $20,000 worth of cards (my foiling is going well) tied up in it and it got to the point where I couldn't justify keeping it together. Making decks was a huge pain in the ass so now I can bring the proxy cube to big events and not worry and also let's me build actual Magic decks with my actual cards which I haven't been able to do easily in years. A few weekends ago my playgroup got together and I was able to rebuild Angus, Wydwen, Mogis and Xenagos which made it much easier to do a good bit of cubing and constructed instead of nonstop cubing (which was fine honestly). I have the duals/shocks/fetches/other staples to build 4 decks at a time for our play sessions which will hopefully rekindle my interest in constructed commander.
Yeah the reapers are pretty nuts, basically a much better scout than the Ranger but no melee. The free claymore is great and being able to explode vehicles is situationaly amazing.
Capture of Jingzhou reprint as judge promo upcoming. That puts me closer to having most EDH cards out there, even if I almost never play time magic.
That's good to know though I doubt I need the 3rd Time Warp for many decks.
Been loving the X Com 2 expansion. The Chosen are fun to fight without being OP, I'm just about to raid the stronghold of the first one and am very close on a second. Being able to hold alt to see what you can target seems like cheating but there also plenty of situations where it's not clear. It's something I use sparingly but like having the feature available. All the new classes are great if a bit broken. Some of the higher level faction abilities seem a bit much like I just had one that made the contact time instantaneous so I grabbed 2 new areas right before the supply drop. I did run into super berserker when I attacked one of the facilities but wasn't as bad as I remembered.
In Dragon Warrior after I rescued the princess she would ask if I loved her and I always told her no but she kept telling me I had to so eventually I would cave and say yes. But really I was lying.
