Looks like she's supposed to be used for board control. She forces creatures to attack while preventing tricks that would turn your kills/trades into bad blocks.

Seconded. It just makes blocking decisions more solid. That said, let's just hope the deck is not full of first strike creatures and burn.

    FTV: Gems

And by gems I mean the uncut gems of the past, the cards that started out as sleepers, later to completely define standard or at least make it into a tier 1 deck. A lot of these cards should not be all that expensive today now that they're not standerd legal anymore. I recall the days of Tempest, where all of sudden Tradewind Rider and Cursed Scroll stole the spotlight while they started out as 1 euro rares.

I know that Wizards want to show us which colors are friends and which are not, but in my opinion that's already accomplished through the fact that efficient color hosers are only found in the enemies of those colors. Just having a cycle of 10 multicolor lands, one for each color combination, should be a no brainer in my opinion to include in every core set. I mean, these are the basic foundations upon which decks are built. There high demand for dualcolor lands but that's because people need them to play their decks - not because dualcolor cards are cool. Then they can llet the expansions focus on nonbasics with other abilities or purposes other then the basics of mana fixing. (Also, I know some color combinations are enemies, but should wizards therefore make it more hard to play these decks efficiently? Other then determining which color hoses which, what does it matter which combination you play?)

Also, I concur with the notion that multicolor has had it's moments in the spotlights long enough. With all the powercreep that has been going on in multicolor cards, I feel that we could do with a set that rewards a deep commitment to one color. (After all, there's weaknesses of a color that you could not compensate either). Like 4 red, instant, divide 4 damage among any number of targets, no regeneration clause. That kind of stuff.

He knows it's his commander. "Commanderness" is an attribute of the physical card itself so to say. Everyone knows what cards are commanders at all times. It's actually 'correct' to have it in a different sleeve.

So, he will have a chance to put it in command as it leaves his library, if he wants. Otherwise you would pretty much have it trapped, yes.

Seriously? A different sleeve? But then how do you still shuffle properly? Everyone will see where you commander is in your deck? Also, when I have it in my hand, everyone will know which card is my commander and thus when to hit me with Duress or somesuch?

Suppose I play this and I exile my opponent's commander: the exile is face down so my opponent does not know that I am exiling is his commander. But now I wonder:

-If my opponent somehow knows I'm exiling his commander (Because someone at the table tells him or whatever), is he then allowed to put it in the command zone instead?

-If my opponent learns later on that I have exiled his commander, can he then opt for it to be placed in his command zone instead? If so, could I still play the card from his command zone before he does if I want to?

-Or is this a surefire way to remove an opponent's commander from the game permanently once it's in his library?

Of course all this presumes the commander is in the library but obviously there are ways to get it there.

Either way, I doubt it is as easy to travel between planes, even with the help of a planeswalker. With Karn though, it could be done...

So 5 years from now we can have a block called "[whatever plane they walked to] Besieged.".

Upon leaving Mirrodin, Melira forgot to wipe her soles clean. Now, [insert plane name here] is slowly succumbing to the same oil that corrupted Mirrodin. Can the heroes reduce Melira's ecological footprint before it's too late?

It's been said many times, but fyi, Karn cannot get a planeswalker card right now. He lost Urza's spark back in time spiral. But we may see a new Legendary creature card for him like with Bladewing or Balthor. The only chance of seeing a planeswalker card for him is if new phyrexia manages to achieve Yawgmoth's dream of taking the "spark organ" from an existing planeswalker and implanting it in Karn. If they were gonna go that route, I would say Venser would be a best bet for a donor.

The fact that Karn lost his spark is what makes the card viable in the first place. None of the oldwalkers could ever be printed, because their powerlevel was over 9000. Even though Karn lost his spark, he still has a lot of power AND the ability to planeswalk because of the powerstone. Therefore, it is very well possible that his powerlevel now is equal to a (probably really powerful) neowalker. And it it looks like a neowalker, acts like a neowalker, and is as powerful as a neowalker, why could it not have a neowalker card?

  • posted a message on Commander - A chance for Dual Land functional reprints?
I do hope that each deck will contain a wedge color Tri-Land and Wedge color Obelisk. That's an uncommon and a common slot that would surely do their part as far as mana fixing is concerned. Also, they could reprint the signets too as commons for balancing the mana. Add in the factor that three of those decks will have green in it, thus various forms of landsearching.

In short, the rare slots don't need to be used to fix the mana. To speak with Maro: the 'shiny' of the commander product should not be the mana fixing of another format, but the new generals and the 51 total new cards specifically for commander. If it was, it would be called Master's Edition.

Third enthousiast for Lin Sivvi here. Just made my first commander deck with her, will take it out for a first test spin tommorow. Some cool interactions from the deck:

Outrider en-kor+Task Force+Animal Boneyard is infinite life.

    Auratouched Mage+Eldrazi Conscription is a 13/13 trample annihalator 2 for 6 mana.

Lin Sivvi, Defiant Hero+Bound in Silence is instant speed untargeted pseudo removal. (Especially good versus Uril!)

Lightbringer or Lawbringer+Distorted Lens is repeated tutorable creature removal.

Cho-Manno, Revolutionary+Pariah or Pariah's Shield makes you near invulnerable. (Also saves you versus infect)

Stonehewer Giant+Argentum Armor is just good.

Special Mention: Endless Horizons to help out with the fact that you have almost no draw.

Some of these combo's can also be used in an Akroma or 8,5 Tails deck.

For the white part, my guess is it will pacify a creature for a turn, or tap a creature down like Ajani Vengeant's ability. Destroying a non-basic seems fitting, though very powerful.

    How old is elspeth

You're afraid she's underaged? Judging on the trauma she has from the Phyrexians, I doubt there's anything Koth can do that would freak her out more than the Phyrexians already did. Tongue

That said, I don't think we'll be seeing a romance anytime soon. With the trauma and all, she's thinking more about Phyrexia then Koth.

It gives mono red and mono black decks a (repeatable!) way to deal with enchantments. That in itself is worth mythic status.

  • posted a message on [future set] Speculation: Return to Ravnica.
I have not read the novels, but based on the posts before me I think it would still be possible to return to Ravnica and keep somewhat of a guild model. I mean, if the Boros now form private security organizations, then let them. That's a favor issue. Instead of naming everything 'Boros [insert something]" you could have three or four major 'companies' take over the Boros role with cards a like ' Company A guard' , ' Company B enforcer' and ' Company C debt collectors' or something like that. Thing is, they'd all be white/red cards that still tie together somewhat mechanically so you can build a Ravnica 2.0 red/white Blackwater deck. Same could be done for the other guilds. I mean, the Gruul already consisted of several tribes the first time around, nothing new there.

Orzhov could break down into more political power oriented branches and more criminal syndicate type of branches, Izzet could form different groups based on different types of technology, Selesnya could from different groups with different views on the collective vs the individual, Golgari could form different tribes taking different views on the cycle of life and death (Half plant elfs yeah!), Dimir could form loose groups of private investigators that rent their services to whoever pays, Simic could form different type of research groups from more scientific approaches to full-out ecoterrorists, Rakdos does not have to change: they'll still be the loose band of lunatics they always were and the Azorius could use their knowledge of laws and rule to become diplomats, insurance brokers etc.

This is just what I came up with in 5 minutes (Hope it doesn't show as much) so with the power of the creative team combined they should be able to come up with something.
