    as really just a FNM player, and someone that sometimes fails to see the "bad" cards, the dimir champion seems fine.Maybe this would have a bit better
    2UB
    flying
    whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell,if it does not have cipher, it gains cipher
    whenever you cast a spell,target opponent puts the top card of his or her library into his or her graveyard and you may draw a card
    whenever a card is put into a graveyard from an opponents library,all creatures he or she controls get -1/-1 until end of turn.
    2/3

    I'm pretty sure that's absolutely the nuts. I could see just one of those abilities being on a 2/3 flyer for 4 and it would still be incredibly good.

    (Ignoring that giving spells Cipher is completely broken because of Time Warp)

    I think people were deluding themselves into thinking that Dimir wasn't going to be a heavy mill guild. Glimpse the Unthinkable is proof of that. Mill is one of the most popular mechanics. It's insanely popular with the biggest players of Magic, the kitchen table player. The one who doesn't care about tournament magic, who buys packs just to open them up, and couldn't tell you what the best deck in standard is.
    They love mill. Love it to bits. And they spend a lot of money on the game.

    I know that more than a few of you would be ecstatic if there wasn't a single mill card in the entire Return to Ravnica block, but the biggest demographic would be outraged. Especially since Dimir had such a strong mill theme first time around. It would be like if Golgari didn't focus on the graveyard and instead on another aspect of green/black. It would be ridiculous.

    Honestly, I'm surprised that there wasn't more mill in Dimir.
    And I think Wizards is perfectly fine letting U/B (as a two colour combination in a world of three+ colour decks) be weaker in exchanging for giving the casual players what they want.

    I was actually going to post some rebuttal of some kind, but then I realized I have much better things to do than argue about this on a fantasy card game forum where I know I won't change anyone's mind. So I'm done wasting my time here.

    So good news, I guess you can tell yourself you won, if that makes you feel better about yourself.

    Which would be all well and good if we lived in this perfect fantasy universe you think we live in where racism and sexism no longer exist. But we don't. I wish we did, I really really do, but until that day comes (if it ever does) you are wrong.

    Everyone is not on equal footing, and we cannot pretend that they are.

    You're being an ass.

    There are real people who have been raped or sexually abused. People who are white, heterosexual, and male. Mocking them (Even if you're just mocking the way they're used as a defense by the typical anti-feminist squad) is no better than joking about how women make fake rape claims (Which is also disgusting). It's the sort of disturbing marginalization and victim blaming that leads to rape culture, and I can't tolerate it. Don't do it.

    Sorry (completley sincere here). It was pretty jerkish of me. But I was in no way mocking anyone who was raped. The people I'm mocking are the asses who think that this doesn't happen. Who think that it is isnt awful to be a non white heterosexual male in the world. Yeah its uncomfortable to think about, but you cant just ignore it and pretend it doesn't happen
    I would never mock anyone of any gender who is raped. But its a valid part of the point I was making.

    Quote from Stroggoii
    He is, and you're contributing, this and your previous post are ripe with racism, and wouldn't be tolerated at all if you were talking about black men.

    Yeah, but thats because lying is genuinely frowned upon.

    Well yes, except that what was said was "The white, heterosexual male is the most hated human being in the planet" which is laughably false.

    But hey, I guess it kinda sucks you're not allowed to be as offensive as you want. That's pretty bad too.

    You're right. Poor white heterosexual male. Its so unfortunate he is forced to cover himself up in public. Awful that he is raped and told it is his fault. Criminal he cannot marry who he loves. Vile that he must fight through racism to even consider a position of power. When will there ever be a white heterosexual male president people.

    Observe, if all y'all will, this soldier clad in thick full plate armour (although mysteriously lacking a helmet) and wielding a heavy two-handed sword.

    <pic>

    By what we know of the history of Western combat, full plate armour (albeit with helmets) was quite difficult to penetrate without dedicated weaponry and a two-handed sword had such good reach for stabbing folks that it was only trumped by like spears or such. This soldier hasn't a single chance in the world in a fight against this cat. The cat will ruin him every day of the week. The soldier hits the cat for all he's worth yet doesn't kill it.

    Here is a soldier who does have a helmet:

    <pic>

    He or she fares no better than the previous soldier or than this un-armoured human:

    <pic>

    or a ghost, for that matter:

    <pic>

    Granted, maybe the civilian actually does have armour, I'm not sure if that's leather armour or a corset. Either way it isn't as good as plate armour or even chainmail. If these folks wish to defeat the cat they must join together and even then one of them will perish. Or whatever ghosts do.

    Yet the soldier being chubby would be unrealistic.

    Re: Why this is a problem.

    Our art reflects who we are as a society (even if that art is for something "unimportant" like a trading card game), and what we choose to be acceptable and standard influences us all the time. And while no, the fact that Magic is full of mostly white people and mostly overly-sexualized females isn't going to ever be the straw the breaks the camels back, it's definitely one of the straws and it's not a good thing to keep doing it because that's how it's always done.

    Yes, it is more that the culture we build up around fantasy is what lets us get away with this, but it doesn't stop if no one is willing to try and stop it, and I always hope that maybe Magic will give it a try.

    On a side note: Chrome wants to spell-check sexualized into equalized. Not quite Google. Not quite.

    No, book promo jace is the black lotus of PW collections

    Is book promo Jace more expensive than JtMS right now? I know for a while there they would fluctuate and one would be more expensive.

    There's certainly a lot less of the book promo, that's for sure. Lets be glad it wasn't Mindsculptor as the book promo.

    I really like the concept and it's been coming for a long while now, but I'm not a fan of Adam Styborski's writing, at all.

    Ce la vie.

  • posted a message on Why is there so much control hate right now?
    Because as the power level of Draw-Go style control dwindled, attendance numbers, profit, and overall popularity of Magic has increased.

    WotC is not stupid. You will never see a Standard format dominated by lockdown, "you-don't-get-to-do-anything" control unless the screw something up big time. Because, now stay with me for a second, the majority of people who play the game do not like that. It doesn't make them a scrub, or bad or unskilled, or a yu-gi-oh player, or a "timmy" in the derogatory sense. They just don't like that.

    And when you're running a business, or making a game, catering to the small minority over the large majority is stupid. Period.
    Please stop thinking you are high and mighty because you like playing Magic "the more skilful way."

    Now, before anyone bites my head off, this doesn't mean that they ignore you completely. It's just that the general focus of the game is moving away from it. That's just how it goes. If you like something that's unfun for the majority of players, you probably won't see too much of it. Sorry.

    Rabble rabble rabble my magic is best magic your magic is worst magic.

    Could we please, maybe, to have a serious discussion, stop it with the subtle (and not so subtle) jabs at people who like different things in Magic? Maybe we could actually have a mature discussion on Modern as a format and not a bunch of people complaining about things they don't like. I'm not signalling any side out here. You're all doing it.
