Oh, @MMOD: I believe StormBlind is voting for Nom_Anor as well.
Meant to do that last night.

    So where's your vote?

So yeah. MandersHex is scum, so you should lynch him and let me act as a vig for you. I'll be more than happy to kill whoever you tell me to.
    I lol'd.

Let's get the day rolling and test Gamerz' ability to vig on RafK. We now know why so many people can protect now - two kills; one of which that may be conditional.

The next four people posting should be placing votes on Nom.

You still haven't explained what the hell this is supposed to mean. It makes absolutely no sense at all.

And your other point is pretty much "I don't agree with it, therefore it's scummy."

Like I said, making up crap.

It's actually quite clear. I asked you why you supported the mass claim. You responded by saying "Look what I did with my ability" referencing taking the shotgun over the truth serum. Logically that means you are blaming your action of choosing the shotgun over the truth serum on the lack of a mass claim.

Notice how you didn't actually say why you were for or against the mass claim, but used it as a launching pad to excuse your night actions. In my view, only the scum are trying to find excuses for their night actions - I think you can fill in the rest.

shibui's making up crap, Guardman wants to finish his indoctrination, and Niv wants Guardman to finish his indoctrination so that he (Guardman) can be useful.

    That's pretty much it.

You're the one who didn't really answer anything. If you are not blaming the lack of a mass claim on your choice on what item to repair, then what did you mean?

Another point I want to make is that the body is not meant to ingest synthetically generated materials.
If that's not what you meant fine, I can understand that.

You're over-analyzing my statement entirely too much. It's true that most people who take medicine don't know much about it besides that their doctors prescribed it to them; it's also true that this is an inadequate way to go about things. What's more is that we seem to see eye to eye on this topic and you still continue to try to debase my argument.
I was just saying you cannot lay the entirety of that problem at the feet of the pharmaceutical industry, and that attitude was not born from the pharmaceutical industry.

I'm not sure where the conflict arises between me claiming that apples are naturally nutritious and you claiming that apples work because of form and delivery (do you not consider those to be natural processes?).

As for the actual percentages of the vitamins in question, I didn't feel a pressing need to mention those because anyone who bothers to read the label on a pill bottle would know that. Then again, I suppose a lot of people don't read those labels anyway.
It isn't because they are synthetic that makes them work worse. They can make synthetics in the same form as an apple, but they would perish just like in an apple - obviously you cannot sell a highly perishable substance on a shelf. On top of that, think about how much you would have to consume in order to match a single multivitamin.

What you were saying is that a vitamin produced through a synthetic process is not as nutritional as an equivalent amount existing in nature, which is false. It is true that it's better to get your daily nutrition from the food you eat, and it's also true that the less a food is processed the more nutritious it is. It's also true that your body cannot process the amount of nutrition in a multivitamin while it can process an entire apple.

That's a huge problem with America and the pharmaceutical industry in general; nearly everyone is on some kind of medication, and yet at the same time nearly everyone knows next to nothing about medication or how it works. The pharmaceutical industry is certainly not cast in a light that reflects its nature and I find it hard to believe that you don't know anyone who has fallen for it.
You're combining technical backgrounds into a blob of "medical science" here.

There's no way for a doctor to know how everything he's going to prescribe works - he knows that it has been shown to do X with a side effect of Y with Z success. Frankly, knowing how medication works is above the heads of the vast majority of people - including myself. I would have to go back to school to study biochemistry, organic chemistry, and the human body to be prepared to attempt to understand. Obviously I can do a Google search an see what pops up, but even if its bad news I would be forced to ask another doctor for a second opinion.

Also, the situation you describe is a failure on all levels, not just the pharmaceutical industry. People go to the doctor for the wrong things, there are bad doctors, there are dirty hospitals, and there's a poor attitude towards maintaining an individual's health in this country. While I agree that there are things that can (and need) to be done, it'll take an entire cultural shift and being paranoid about going to the doctor or taking pills is the wrong answer.

You shouldn't take so much Ibuprofen - it's bad for your bowels and stomach in the long run. As far as I know (not an expert), sinus medication and ibuprofen won't effect your immune system.

    Quote from Benalicious Hero
Another point I want to make is that the body is not meant to ingest synthetically generated materials. Eat an apple and drink some water, then use the restroom. Your urine will be clear, assuming you've eaten nothing but the apple and drank nothing but the water in some time. Now take a multivitamin and drink some water. Your urine will be bright yellow, because your body will pass out about 90% of the contents of the multivitamin as waste. Natural interactions cannot be imitated and any nutritionist will tell you that your body is more adapt (and designed) to receive the naturally bonded and balanced minerals and vitamins of the apple as opposed to so much compacted pill dust. This problem of synthesized materials and their interactions with biology has put pharmacologists in an awkward position, as many medications can have unanticipated and/or uncontrollable effects on any number of patients for just about any number of unperceivable reasons.
    This is half right.

The apple contains far less nutrition than a multivitamin, and delivers it a different form. It's not so much about the "naturalness" of the apple's nutrition that makes it more fully digested, it has a lot more to do with the form the nutrition takes (including the method of delivery - fiber). You also have to remember a small apple is:

    B1 - 1% <- Daily Value
    B2 - 2%
    B3 - 1%
    B5 - 1%
    B6 - 3%
    B9 - 1%
    C - 8%
    Calcium - 8%
    Iron - 1%
    Magnesium - 1%
    Phosphorus - 2%
    Potassium - 2%
    Trace A and Trace Zinc

    A multivitamin (Centrum) is:

    A - 70%
    C - 100%
    D - 100%
    E - 100%
    K - 31%
    Thiamin - 100%
    Riboflavin - 100%
    Niacin - 100%
    B6 - 100%
    Folic Acid - 100%
    B12 - 100%
    Biotin - 10%
    Pantothenic Acid - 100%
    Calcium - 20%
    Iron - 100%
    Phosphorus - 2%
    Iodine - 100%
    Magnesium - 13%
    Zinc - 73%
    Selenium - 79%
    Copper - 25%
    Manganese - 115%
    Chromium - 29%
    Molybdenum - 60%
    Chloride - 2%
    Potassium - 2%
Trace Boron, Nickel, Silicon, Tin, and Vanadium

There is no possible way for your body to absorb that concentration of nutrition at once. That's why people really should use a pill cutter and take half a multivitamin at a time twice a day if they are going to take a vitamin. You will just filter it and process it out as urine.

In the end, apples will provide a more efficient source of nutrition. Multivitamins will allow you to absorb parts of it at once, but you are not getting all of it in one go. Take half a pill with a high fiber meal and you've maximized the effect in a positive way.

    -----

Also, your body will process basically everything it doesn't understand as estrogen.

  • posted a message on Art v. Entertainment, or I know what I like
Since art in its most raw since is creating something to provoke emotions and senses, I would say even a summer blockbuster inspiring a group of adolescents to get hyped about big explosions and action is art.

That said, diving into the depths of what constitutes the "best" or even "good" art is a debate with the PC response being "it's up to the individual". There are elements in a media that makes it a great example of X. I'm tired of getting into arguments with people that claim mushy noodles with a congealed cheese and cream mixture is the best fettuccine alfredo they've had. They're wrong. Whether it is painting, food, or even why Twisted Sister benefited from Dee Snider's classical training there are common elements to "superior" forms of an art that most people just don't care about.

Entertainment value is obviously in the eye of the beholder, but the quality of the artistry should be left to experts since they are for the populace that cares.

    EDIT

    Quote from Blinking Spirit
Entertainment is for the masses. Art is for the elite. But good art makes the masses into the elite.
I would say "good art makes the masses agree with the elite" rather than "makes the masses into the elite". Though it is an elegant way to state my point of view.

Ok, I looked over Shibui's posts again, and there's not really anything there. He said many times his role name did not match his ability (which it doesn't) and he's been asking some good questions of plenty of people. He appears town for the most part.
    damn skippy.

My thoughts have not changed, and I'm not sure what the hold up is - oh wait, in order to lynch Nom and vig RafK it requires the entirety of the town and scum to be on the same page.

Firstly, I will ask Nom to vote for RafK so I may unvote, vote Nom and Gamerz can still shoot.

Secondly, Zebi's failure to act on literally anything continues to paint him in a bad light.

Syrenz's case is a stretch IMO. It'd be impossible to prove that MH actually made a slip since bman is fairly tight lipped in general and MH is not.
