Is there any mention in the Lorwyn/Shadowmoor block of how planeswalkers fit into the block?

Reworded: Is there any mention of how the planeswalkers fit into the Lorwyn/Shadowmoor storyline? Do they affect the storyline or interact with the characters at all?
So in this one game, I have a niv mizzet on the field, and he has nothing. I play a keiga, and next turn he steals it using mark of the oni and some other spell to turn my keiga into a demon. So next turn I play another Keiga, and the legend rule kills both. So here's the dilemma, who controls niv mizzet?
Hi everyone, I'm new to MTG salvation, and I'm getting a Magic Booster box for christmas, but I quit after ravnica and just started playing again when Alara came out. I've been looking at the standard, and I really don't know if I should order anything from Lorwyn or Shadowmoor or Alara. Do you guys have any suggests? I really do like the Alara block though.
