Little sad to see Shivan go. It was as memorable a part of magic as Serra Angel is.

Open the Vaults is kind of interesting to see go. They said they only put it in because Esper had a lot of artifacts... Does this mean SoM will have little artifacts or so many that OtV will be broken?

    Divination out, Concentrate in please!

Ok, I have some helpful hints too. These shouldn't be taken as rule of law, but merely tricks that have come to help me out time to time.

    1. In most decks, you can afford to be a little reckless in terms of life loss until you reach about 10 or less.

    2. Sometimes it can be beneficial to wait until after combat to cast creature spells.

    3. Not only (as another has already mentioned) do you not want to over extend or "win more", but you should also ALWAYS play to your full potential even if you think the game is in the bag. I have too many stories of people making comebacks due to getting sloppy.

Maybe common sense, maybe useless, but it's helped me out now and again.

i just hope the continue to support these silly little things instead of pushing them out for an inital release then forget they existed.

I agree 100%. As it stands now, I'm not sure if I should be excited about this or not. Will this be something I get into and then fails to get more support, or will it pick up and then I find out I failed to get on the band wagon when I had the chance?

So far, I would say I'm skeptical. I will wait to fully judge the product until the rest of the schemes and the decklists are revealed. It could have potential. Maybe if the precons have some ultimate goal to reach. Like, Doomsday Device could have Grinding Station, Blasting Station, Summoning Station and Salvaging Station or something like that.

Eh, might be fun.... wait and see, i guess.

  • posted a message on How do you feel mythic rares have impacted Magic?
It's kinda funny. When mythic rarity was first announced, I was really excited. And at seeing how well I felt Shards of Alara pulled it off I was even more excited. All the mythics had an epic feel and whenever I or a friend opened one, we couldn't help but be a little giddy. After all, the cool planeswalkers, the powerful beasts, cards like Lich's Mirror, were really awesome even if they weren't useful.

Now, I see it as just another thing that makes an already expensive game even more expensive. I want a Jace2, $80! Really!? Gideon, $50!! Come on! A lot of the mythic cards lately don't even feel mythic anymore! With the original appeal gone, I'm left with nothing but a bad taste in my mouth.

edit: I think they should try to market it is a "battle of the babes" but maybe not I don't know.

.....Okay, yes. I would totally buy that.

I don't know... I kind of look at Rhystic Cave and see a budget Rishadan Port.

Oh? So, "The Gathering Dark" that came in the fatpack isn't the coldsnap book? Hmm... I do remember there being a short story in the mini card encyclopedia though...

Hmm... I don't know the rules on this or anything, but I actually got the fatpack as a gift a while back. I wasn't interested in the book or anything like that, but I kept them anyway. Never read even cracked the book open.

Since we both live in the states, why don't I just send you my copy of the book? I'm always looking for ways to get rid of extra clutter in my room.

If you're interested, just shoot me a PM and give me about a week.

Y'know what's funny? I played a similar deck in my FNM about a month ago (don't do standart TOO often) before the release of ROE. My general idea was the same, hide and stall until luminarch comes online. Every single game was won once I got the quest up. The problem was, I placed soo much emphasis on getting that luminarch out asap that I put in Ardent Pleas so that I would guarantee either LA or AP in my opening hand. The way I saw it, I always seemed to want to do a little more in my early turns...

Also, my deck ran Safe Passage. I know it might not be super great, but I was never disappointed when I drew it. If you do end up going with the Lightmine Fields, it could double as protection for your own attack swarm.

    Just my thoughts anyway...

People keep forgetting that if they target your Spawn token with Spawning Breath, you should simply sacrifice your token. If you do, the player who played the Spawning Breath doesn't get a token either.

Hmm... that's right. Oh well, I'm glad they forgot because I ended up pulling that move off a lot.

  • posted a message on Paper Duels of the Planeswalkers Decks Announced
Ok, so here's my theory: the decks will be like one of the duel decks in terms of contents, y'know 4 rares and a mythic and all that. price point will be about $19.99. And, it WILL include the planeswalker. That would explain why there is no Elspeth deck, because she is pricey and will be rotating soon, whereas all the other mentioned plansewalkers will be standard legal for a while... I don't get the no Ajani part though.

EDIT: Darn, I guess I was wrong.

Ok, my second pre-release ever and I had a lot of fun! I did much better at the Worldwake one, but this one ended up being more fun.

First off, I didn't get anything worth bragging about and I had no good synergy. Ended up just going RG because those were the only colors I had any creatures in. So lame, I got a Kor Spiritdancer and 2 Aura Gnarlids, but no auras.

First 2 matches 0-2 and were nothing remarkable at all

Later 3 matches 2-0, 2-0, and 1-1-1. How the sudden comeback? Splashed a little black. REMOVAL WAS KEY!

All in all I had some pretty fun games. Made some insane amount of spawns, great annihilator fodder plus mana accel. Level up was too much fun! Never underestimate the ability to turn any weenie into a threat.

No real MVPs, but some honorable mentions go to Bloodrite Invoker, Daggerback Basilisk, and Suffer the Past.

  • posted a message on Time for a new Mox?
Hey, this is kinda funny. I remember reading about this in the old Magic: the Gathering Encyclopedias. I think it was volume I or II in the preface to the Mirage section. It said that they were actually planning on including a card named Mox Crystal to the set and that it made it to playtest, but was removed due to power levels. It was just the simple 0 cost, tap for a mana with no drawback...

I would love to see a fixed version in M11. Moxes and Lotuses are what the game was all about back then. I could totally imagine it at Mythic Rare status a have a heart attack if I ever opened one.

Spiritdancer is indeed a great card. Though, when I first read it, I thought it cantripped off of all enchantments... No big deal, I'm still gonna replace my Mesa Enchantresses with her. That just means I'll have to replace my Journey to Nowheres with Pacifism.

    Yes! I completely agree!!

Also, aside from power level and whether or not it will be a staple, aren't mythics supposed to "feel" more rare? Why is it that a walking bush is something of myths? Planeswalkers, legendarys, and crazy bad-A creatures and such I can understand. A wizard at a lighthouse though? I mean, c'mon!!!

The very first set that introduced mythics did it right, all others have been off... some more than others.
