Dr.KnowMaD... you dont believe. have you gone to a city dump lately? how about a auto junk yard? america has become a throw away community. instead of recycling or repairing we throw away and buy new. this is relatively new to america. bottled water? fast food? lazy americans. simple things most knew how to do a decade or so ago are now being forgotten. how many really know how to cook or repair anything? they would rather buy new or have someone else do it for them.
I know many older couples that the latest crunch of layoffs has hit and they are lost. they have been living in this consumer bubble for years and now its all gone and they dont have the slightest idea where to turn or how to do anything. its sad to see grown people lost in life with no idea how to restart their lives. their children see this and they dont understand and still want the $500 game systems and $100 pants, $200 shoes. those parents want to keep the kids happy ....sooner or later those kids will have to be told no for those families to get back on their feet. when all those families effected start to do this, the economy will dip further toward a depression. then those kids will understand surviving.
the buying habis of this country are relativly new. i dont know how old many are here but i can remember christmas in the late 60s early 70s and kids were happy to get 1 toy or non clothing item. and the was the norm not the lower income families. i can remember getting 'pong' that hooked up to the TV and was so excited. ever play pong today? kids today would laugh at the parents.
parents today buy things to make children content. kids control the buying habits of most households. from food to clothing to electronics. thats sad if you think about it.
all empires topple... america is in transition from an industry controled country to a technolgy controled country. depending how america handles it will depend on how the economy rebounds ..if it does. in my opinion i think america will be knocked down a few pegs as a world power until the economy gets in check.
china is a very old country. they have been through alot. their standing army is the largest in the world i believe. china for centuries has tried to keep its distance from the western world. now that they have jumped into the world markets with both feet they are taking their hits and making money. yes they have problems ...alot of the same problems other large countries have... but they also seem to survive everything thrown at them.
the next decade or so should be very interesting how the world powers play out. russia is in termoil, america is suffering, china is growing and learning the world markets, so many countries with nueclear arms ...
high school life... freshman year you act immature looking up to the upper classmen, sophmore year you are a little more mature but still look up to the upper classmen, junior year you made it. you tease the freshmen and sophmores and look down upon your minions....senior year you act like a freshman all over because for the most part the pressure is off... you are the kings of the school !!
now about the democracy...school is a democracy. but the kids have no say. its the parents ( who are responsible for the kids ) and the teachers who have all the say. alot of the problems now in school is the parents feel the teachers should treat their kids in ways the parents are to lazy too. parents expect the schools to teach manners and disipline the kids which the parents should be teaching not the teachers. after the parents give all that responsibility to the teachers they complain about how the teachers do it.
as for the censorship....america is prude by nature. the censorship trickles down from times gone by. our forefathers were prude about the human body...and we still are today.
the first part of the question is true. its is something you can control because it only effects you and no one else.
the second part of your question human nature comes into play and you lose total control. it is human nature to be greedy, want to win, coruption comes soon after. the problem with taxes is so many want different things done, and in truth very little does get done.
in a utopian world you can only have one or the other not both.
Been reading the formus here for some time and decided to sign up. Been playing Magic on and off since 93 ( my son got me back into it during Guildpact ). I am more of a limit player that occasionally goes to FNM. Too many net decker at FNM for my liking. I perfer rogue type decks.
You guys are good. I have been reading this site for over a year and never really saw the need to register. But, this thread made me join.
I think if you talk population control we all would have to look at more then just birth control. Yes limiting/educating people on child birth would be a start. What about the thousands sitting in prisons that will never be useful to society? older people who cant care for themselves? Wards of the state that have been forgotten about by most? I know most dont want to go the route of Eugenics but to be honest it has to be talked about when talking about population control.
i say let it all fail and we will rebuild from the rubble. in the long run we will be better off.
