So we got the second new "leader" of a Bolas guild confirmed.

    https://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/magic-fundamentals/the-rumor-mill/802091-rna-pro-tour-playmat

The question is in which direction will she steer the guild? Unlike Dovin Baan she does not seem to fit into the guild she is taking over.

"Kaya is a firm believer that life is for the living. The living should make the most of their lives and pursue what they want while they've still got time, and find their own peace before death. If you die with unfinished business, well, that's probably your fault. And if it's not...perhaps she could help you...for a price." - From the Mothership

From the cover of the novel we knew she would be there and it was pretty clear she would get rid of the ghost council, but that she would take over was still unclear, nice to see a confirmation.

Someone on reddit posted a few tidbits from the guildmasters guide.

    Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/comments/9vm1uy/vorthos_lore_tidbits_from_guildmasters_guide_to/

    • The current Ravnica year is is given as 10,076, placing the events of the original Ravnica block 76 years in the past. Ravnican years are 365 days long, with months being a scrambled version of the Gregorian calendar
    • Jace became Living Guildpact in 10,075
    • The book sort of implies that the Guildpact magic does not function when Jace is off-plane, but it's still not clear
    • Ravnican currency is called zibs and zinos, with 100 zibs making up 1 zino. 10 zibs will buy you a cup of coffee. The Azorius, Boros (???), and Orzhov all mint coins
    • The 10 districts are what originally made up Ravnica City. Other districts are different cities that eventually sprawled into the great city
    • The number of other districts is stated as "unknown", as are the borders of Ravnica (if there are any)
    • There is no large-scale agriculture. Small gardens and rot farms manage to provide all food
    • About half of Ravnica's population is guildless, and the proportion gets higher the farther you get away from the city's center and into "rural" areas. There are also discrepancies in race: nearly all elves belong to one of the guilds, but nearly all goblins are guildless
    • There is a 10-foot-tall statue of Agrus Kos in Precinct Two. It's become a meeting place for veterans, the mob, and Dimir spies
    • There is a Prism University that teaches magic and is--at least nominally--unaffiliated with any guild
    • Mizzium has weird properties: it has an extremely high melting point, but is also often found in a liquid form at room temperature
    • The Azorius have "precognitive mages", which are basically exactly Minority Report
    • Lavinia is freaked out by Jace's disappearance, but refuses to take on his duties as she doesn't believe that is lawful
    • For funsies, Isperia is listed as Lawful Neutral, Aurelia as Lawful Good, Lazav as Neutral Evil, Jarad as Neutral Evil, Borborygmos as Chaotic Neutral, Niv-Mizzet as Chaotic Neutral, the Obzedat as Lawful Evil, Rakdos as Chaotic Evil, Trostani as Neutral Good, and Zegana as Lawful Neutral
    • The Rakdos appear to have a satirical puppet show about Jace, so that's awesome
    • There's a good amount of new art, including what appears to be a 3-story-tall Selesnyan elemental fighting a similarly-sized Simic experiment like kaiju

I really hope that the artbook finally gives us an answer to the whole wing thing with angels.

In the original Ravnica they had 4 wings, so if all angels there were copies of Razia all had to have 4 wings. It was said that Feather was the only surviving angel, so where did the others come from? If they are copies of Feather, they should also have 4 wings, but all the angels in the last two Ravnica blocks had 2 wings. With this story we got another "Razia copy" reverence, but then this angel should have 4 wings, sadly they never reference the number of wings here.

If this side is anything to go by, the next story is about the boros and an angel and after that golgari with a kraul.

I didnt even think about the baby planeswalking, i thought it just did an invisibility spell, since they were mentioned a few times before in the story. It would be interesting if it was a pw, but I am not so sure.

I don't have the story in front of me at this moment, but the way the baby is described as reappearing somewhere else in the room holding a strange fruit that had never been seen before indicated planeswalking to me. Dyfed did a similar thing, to prove she could traverse planes, by bringing back a flower from another plane.

Huatli couldn't bring food to Kaladesh, so nowadays it seems to be different from the oldwalker days

Thanks for summarizing. I had come to make this post and you already did Smile

Yes, the whole Ral thing is strange. Either there is a retcon of the Amonkhet ending hanging in the air, or I do not know.

As for the rest: Aurelia's getting more reasonable explains why she was not manipulated into pro-Bolas, what I genuinely expected. It also fares bad for potential Feather returning, unless Aurelia somehow sacrifices herself.

Thumbs up for reminding that Jarad used to have control over insects. I wholly forgotten.

    You’re welcome Smile

I’m still rooting for her to return in the last set, with a possible all-out war on ravnica they could need her and I want a conclusion to the Krenko side story Grin

The part about the superweapons on the Izzet entry could be a hint that he is working for Bolas but without knowing it, maybe he thinks he is working for Tezzeret, but yeah all pretty strange.

Interesting (if unsurprising) tidbit: Some folks from R&D were streaming MTG: Arena yesterday and accidentally ended up confirming (at around 1:04:30) that Dovin Baan is taking control of the Azorius Senate after Isperia's death.

This is interesting, so the thopter like objects on the new hallowed fountain could indeed be thopters. It would be pretty easy to get Baan to do the job, just show him a system that is falling apart and give him the opportunity to fix it.

Some things from the player's guide

    Vraska/Lazav/Niv
-Nothing more then what we already know

    Ral
-It's stated that he noticed something terrible is about to happen on Ravnica and that he will do anything to protect it. This seems to further what Command the Storm already indicated, that Ral does not seem to be under control from anyone, as far as he is aware, which makes Bolas statement from Amonkhet even stranger.

    Etrata
-She is not interested in what is going on right now on Ravnica, not even in the Dimir gaining power
-Her only interest seems to be, being the best spy in Ravnica
-She thinks of Lazav as the previous generation of the Dimir and longs for the day where his dossier shows up on her hit list

    Izoni
-She is really just Jarad before he became a Lich, Devrakin Shaman with control over insects
-Interesting enough she relishes her position, whereas Vraskas bio states that the Devrakin have lost power

    Tajic
-After he was arrested for his partnership with Teysa he was freed by Aurelia
-He now thinks that there is no peace to be gained between the guilds, as long as the guildmasters are uninterested in the rule of law

    Aurelia
-Is now a bit less of a warmonger, she wants to bring the people justice, true justice not just the enforcement of law as the Azorius do it
-She wants a fair equitable relationship between all people on Ravnica
-It is indicated, that Gideon has left some kind of impression on her, which partly led to her change in philosophy

    Emmara
-She believes they need a replacement for the living guildpact and that all guild leaders should meet to discuss a peace accord

    Trostani
-Order and Life are in a disagreement
-Order wants a peace treaty with the other guilds
-Life wants to focus within the strengthen the guild for what is to come
    -Harmony remains silent

Sad to see that it is not Feather who makes the angel tokens.

On the other hand I can't stop myself from laughing every time Edgar Markov will make an angel token instead of a vampire token, while Sorin is on the battlefield with a big grin on his face Grin
