Its a good idea, but I prefer to use Leyline of Singularity and Torpor Orb with them, because they also allow Hunted Horror. It also is great if you add in Blood Artist.

Blood Artist is nasty. Also good with Forbidden Orchard. I need to find room for him, I'm not sure if I can though.

If this is to talk about the card, night of souls, then it is fine in modern main. If you wish to talk brewing, it doesnt belong here.

Move it to wherever you see fit. I'm discussing the card as a whole as well as possible deck possibilities. I apologize for not posting it in the right forum section.

See the reason I like Night of Souls' Betrayal is because it effects all creatures in play. If you ever get the chance to test it, -1/-1 on all creatures in play, is a powerful effect in this format. Some creatures might not even survive hitting play and some are cut down to size making them less fearsome saving you lots of time's worth of damage prevention. Thanks for the input so far guys! Keep em coming.

Hey guys, it's been a while. I stopped playing magic for a bit then came back to modern after selling my collection and getting back into the game into a better format. I fell in love with Modern and continue to develop deck ideas in this format. I'm no longer the belligerent troll I used to fancy myself as, so do not worry about me acting up on these forums.

Today I wish to discuss a very overlooked and powerful card called Night of Souls' Betrayal. This card, along with Hunted Phantasm and Hunted Troll gave me the base idea for a deck. After playtesting a bit with a sample decklist I came to the conclusion that cheap fatties regardless of synergy make good additions to the deck. I was sick and tired of people countering and bouncing my key creature spells that I decided to add Gaea's Revenge into the mix.

The deck was solid enough winning me some games here and there and further compelled me to share my findings. Here is the list I'm referring to, let me know what you think.

This is it. My main goal is to ramp mana, resolve key spells protected by counters and bash face with efficient large creature's who's bodies laugh in the face of the legendary enchantment. So now that you have a glimpse of what I mean, let me know if I'm overlooking any cards for the deck which is my main concern. As well as discuss ideas that would make this deck better. I hope to hear from you guys It's been a while. I look forward to all of your feedback! Thanks!

Your wording is a little vague. Are you referring to a "leaves the battlefield" triggered ability such as with Reveillark? If so then no, by the time an ability like this has triggered, the creature is no longer on the battlefield and not a legal target for spells like Swords to Plowshares.

If you are referring to an enters the battlefield ability such as on Primeval Titan, you may use removal in response to the ability, but removing the creature will not stop the triggered ability from resolving.

Im referring to simply leaving the battlefield. Back in the day you were able to kill a Rainbow Efreet in response to it leaving play, and if your opponent was tapped out it would die. I need a clarification regarding the stack and if the triggered ability will save the creature. It was never like that in the past thats why im asking since it was brought up in a MWS game. I basically need to know if Norin the Wary is an unkillable creature. I'm like WTF? will two removal spells not kill it?

Ok, if an ability triggers a creature from becoming exiled from the battlefield, can i bolt it or swords it in response to the triggered ability? How does the stack work nowadays, can I still kill it in response?

Not of this World might work once, but if they play removal in response to your Shoal, you won't have the 7 to cast it.

If he had multiple copies it would work.... Removal would act like someone countering your first FoW cast but x2 and you win the game. Any search card would help facilitate multiple copies.

You might want to consider Proteus Staff in addition to polymorph for redundancy.

Emrakul also > Progenitus, in every way except he can't be pitched to FoW but that's not really a big deal if you run a sufficient blue count with considerable card quality.

Cut the creeping tar pit for +1 Island and +1 Swamp.

You definitely need Null Rod s for your Black Vises to be efficient. Winter Orb will not be enough in a powered environment.

What about Xantid Swarm? Gives you some protection from counters, pitches to rider and dryad, and at worst can be pitched to Birthing Pod to fetch a goyf. The only downside would be interfering with the kiki sky hussar combo.

Oh i see what you're saying, you don't get two attack phases. Great suggestion though and definitely warrants a SB slot if I can fit them in at the least. Right now that potential slot is occupied by Mental Misstep.

Haunting Misery seems like a perfect fit for this type of combo. I'd try to fit more black, maybe 1-2 dark ritual and -1 Storm Entity and +1 Misery.

check out scornful egotist. he grabs 8 cost fatties and is much easier to get out than the rider.

Rider is a free spell. Egotist costs 3U as well costing a color that I do not run. Good suggestion though regardless. Allosaurus Rider/Egotist also will let me run Rush of Knowledge but Im still debating its win more factor.

There's a new red 5 mana creature that give all your creatures haste, cant remember the name, from New Phyrexia. Should be alot more decent than crossroads, also gives your opponent a drawback.

Ah just found it.... Urabrask the Hidden seems like the card was designed for eureka considering the negative impact it has on ur opponent's creatures when coming into play.

To be honest i don't see the point in buying power anymore, so many vintage tournaments allow proxies.

Only reason i even think of buying it these days is just for profit/investment value if i can get it under retail.

Well, Gencon is a big reason nowadays..... I wouldnt want to miss a Vintage Championship becuase i didnt actually own the cards. :p

Not quite :p. He would grab 9 cost fatties, none of which are in this deck. It was a good thought, until I remembered his cost at 8 mana :). The top end of the curve in this deck is the 8 cost of Stormtide and Sphinx.

You are correct. Also nothing too decent at nine mana besides Blazing archon and stormtide leviathian basically fills that role as well as deal more damage.

Don't you need Ancient Tomb in here or some other accelerant for Birthing Pod? Starting the game on turn 4 seems like an awful way of doing things.

Good suggestion. I will be testing 2-4. starting at two since having colored mana in your opening hand as a necessary thing and an 18 land count could pose as an issue.

I like the idea, but the deck could seriously use some card draw of some kind. Green does offer harmonize, but I don't think that's really good enough here. A multiple creature search option may not be bad. You could use green sun's zenith as option A, but that's sort of meh, to me. Weird harvest strikes me as a potentially viable option to allow you to fetch up enough creatures to combo in one go. Other than that, perhaps the old instant congregation at dawn has use here? it's slower, but it's cheaper and it's 3 mana for three creatures, not a terrible option (ok, admittedly, you're going to have wait to draw them)

All great suggestions. I like Weird harvest. I will test x2 in the Krosan Grip slot.
