The game may be bad in comparison to what it was to a lot of us, but WotC doesn't give a ***** as long as they make their usual profit margin, which they are doing. You can post a million negative posts on a forum like this and it won't budge their profit margin an inch. Companies only listen when you complain with your wallet or rather you don't fork over money for whatever they're selling, but millions of people do that in regards to MTG annually.

No matter what cards they print that can stop the combo, it doesn't matter. Null rod turn 1 on the play shuts off black lotus from opponent, doesn't make lotus fair. This 2 card combo is going to bust standard wide open, rest assured. WotC didn't print stuff to stop the combo, if they had caught that the combo existed they would have changed the text on the guardian or not printed it.

The 4 mana 2/2 that goes infinite with fumarole, however, is a dud. It's a 4 mana 2/2 without haste and can be chumped. Dies to basically every removal spell. Only reason it might pop up is because the UWR twin deck will exist and play fumarole so this could be backup combo win that also ignores really crappy stuff that shuts down the twin combo like authority of the consuls.

Yeah lands in planeswalker decks makes sense considering it isn't a full cycle and I didn't see these in the spoiler list on the mothership.

I hate it because it is the equivalent of the avengers, which they just completely ripped the idea from marvel only instead of the cool individuals in the avengers you have a bunch of blandness. I hate jace showing up every damn time. It also feels like they will never ever lose a big fight, which is horrible storytelling in my eyes because if the gatewatch never loses the story never really progresses from 'oh we went to a plane, dealt with the bad guy(s), and then celebrated our victory afterwards.' More than anything I wish some member of the gatewatch would die for the sake of story progression characters have to die or change drastically so we don't keep getting the same rehashed bull***** over and over.

Frontier is much more than you make it out to be. It's a reset of the powerlevel of modern that solves the goyf and other degenerate cards problem modern has had since being introduced. WotC doesn't like banlists, in fact they probably hate long banlists more than anyone else.

Saw it, thought of it in terms of degenerate terms in eternal, came up with nothing. It's neat that I can exile dark ritual and fetch 3 more from my deck, just not practical. Very unique card.

Get your copies now then. Price shouldn't be a concern for the people in the game RIGHT NOW, it should be a concern for the people who get into the game 5 years from now when fetches are $50 apiece from KTK and such. Or how about when underground sea was $20 10 years ago but is 10 times that price now at minimum.

Swords to plowshares has the drawback of gaining life. Bolt has the downside of not killing goyf. There is also nothing saying you can't play 4 this 4 bolt either in a grixis shell. Just because this wasn't printed in alpha like plow and bolt doesn't mean it isn't better.

Any deck that is black that wants 1 cmc spot removal will max out on this before any other 1 cmc removal spell, that is obvious in legacy where basically every creature costs 4 or less. This kills deathrite, delver, and goyf. No other 1 cmc spell does that.

Now I just wonder what the blue part of the expertise cycle will be. Counter target spell, play a 3 drop or less to supplant cryptic command as the best 4 mana counter in the game?

Seems a very solid beater indeed or energy generator. In limited forest this into forest cast it twice for a 3/4 on turn 2 is insanely good, like thriving rhino on steroids good.

Not quite goyf and they knew that. Still really good as a 4/3 for 1G in limited. Don't see this working out in legacy, could work in modern potentially as goyfs 5+.

There's the legacy playable for the set. It will see extensive play there and if it doesn't I will be shocked. The synergy with fetchlands and wastelands is obvious.

WotC can only support so many formats, otherwise the playerbase is fractured and that is awful for their business model. They basically support only 5 formats at a time, if that and those have always been vintage, legacy, extended/modern, standard, and limited. Vintage and legacy aren't really supported much anymore since the reserved list ties their hands. You could argue that commander has usurped the place of legacy/vintage in terms of their support as they have yearly releases for it, whereas legacy/vintage have had one dedicated set since basically chronicles in eternal masters. Can't even say conspiracy 1 or 2 really since they didn't print the super staples/wasteland and force of will, 2 cornerstones of both legacy and vintage. You can't just have as many formats as you want.

If there were counterfeits out there that passed the harshest scrutinizing by people who have been in this game for over 20 years, the secondary market would have collapsed by now as the market would be flooded with tarmogoyf, underground sea, etc. etc. and people would panic sell sending the gigantic skyscraper that is the secondary market of magic crashing into the ground like the world trade center. It would be horrific. You wouldn't hear a word about the reserved list again if it happened is about the only good that would come of it, except that WotC should abolish it in response and print power and duals with holograms on it.
