What has the world come to, that this sentence even makes sense to me.Quote from Humpty_DumptyI could see running it in a ballz cube with fewer fun police cards, but most cubes with a rock/paper/scissors metagame will find this card frustrating.

Monkey D Luffy posted a message on Theros list of cube able cardsPosted in: The Cube ForumQuote from Chained to LifeI can't remember the last set that gave us so many great Cube cards. I'm up to 10 already. 0.0
Zendikar and Return To Ravnica comes to mine.
But yes, this is a GREAT set.
---
I forced seed each Theros cards in the packs that I draft, and here's the result, if anyone is interested in hearing them. And each remaining cards that wasn't run by whomever pick them but choose not to run is ask by me to the drafters who is interest in running them (I let them know before the draft it's going to be this way, and each one agree. I do not see Firedrinker on time, but it doesn't matter. The black hero AND 2/1 white Soldier didn't get test, because there's simply no need for it.
Thassa has not become a creature, ever. The unblockable was only used less than 3 times in all the games it's in. The most used from her is mainly the scry. It's kinda hard to evaluate, but I don't think I'll put her in when all the dusk is settle. If you want the enchantment that scry every turn, then she's your god.
Whip of Erebos is insanely slow and its user swap the card out after 2 games. I will not be adding it.
Hero's Downfall is great. I think it only kill Planeswalker twice, but having target to hit every other time is decent.
Boon Satyr plays well. But then, my players always like combat trick. We were running Vines of Vastwood in 360 until only recently.
Xenagos is great. The + ability is used only once to fuel the earthquake. The rest of the time, he's pumping out 2/2 haste, and that's good enough. It remains unsure to me whether or not I'll run him or Sarkhan, but I might just be running one each swapping in and out. I wouldn't run more than 1 Planeswalker per multicolor section, unless they're both on level of Ajani and Sorin.
Omenspeaker is awesome. She smooth draw. She swing Sword of Fire and Ice. She blocks and prevent a fair bit of damage. I like her more than Thassa.
Steam Augury is a good draw spell. I was a bit too iffy on it, but test results aren't bad at all. However, there is one thing to note. If the player is losing and he's using this, there have been absolutely no time that he come back. It does seal win by a fair margin. And can swing an even game is your favor. But it hardly help is you're losing. I'll need to see more testing to see if it'll replace P Bolt or not.
That's all the card that was able to be tested. -

fooligan posted a message on Print This Wizards (so I can put it in my cube)Posted in: The Cube ForumQuote from TheTennesseeFiremanWay too powerful. You're giving white a free Search for Tomorrow on a land ability every turn? I could see this as plausible with a Land Tax clause, only being able to play an exiled plains, and/or "you can't play additional lands this turn". Otherwise, why not just activate it every turn until you have enough lands? Exiling 3 isn't a huge drawback.
Ohhhhhh man I'm sorry hon, What a gaff!

bill nye tho posted a message on [[SCD]] Thassa, God of the SeaI mean... what blue card are you cutting for this? I don't think this card is even close to playable...Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion
This card is a Think Tank with a mediocre ability to make guys unblockable. And occasionally (never) it turns into a creature. I think this card is terrible. Not only that, but it's a mess of a design. These abilities don't fit together nicely... it's a random assortment of blue abilities on an enchantment creature that isn't even a creature half the time. WTF? -

I think this one is my favorite. Its the most simple, while still being a very effective (see Spell Pierce level) counterspell.Quote from Wildfire393

Counter target nonblue spell unless its controller pays 2
From what you described, this doesn't really fit the theme as well as the previous card (the double restriction is what I'm talking about). Its also a much less flexible card in general.Subtle Undoing U
Instant
Counter target nonblue, noncreature spell.
Ehhh, at 5 mana its acts like a hard counter for most of the game, which goes against the spirit of taxing IMO.Subtle Undoing 1U
Instant
Counter target nonblue spell (unless its controller pays 5?)
This is my second favorite. I really like the idea of a 1 mana cycle that replaces the usual restrictions for the color restrictions though, so that wins out for me. And I know you didnt say anything about them all being 1 mana, but I think that'd be a cool way to take it Like a 1 mana instant prey upon that only hits nongreen creatures for example. Or a Lightning bolt that only hits nonred creatures etc.Subtle Undoing UU

Counter target nonblue spell. If that spell is countered this way, exile it instead of putting it into its owner's graveyard.
Sometimes, it takes only the smallest tug on the tiniest thread to unravel an entire tapestry
Look man, as someone who has been creating cards for quite a few years and loves doing so, you need to take criticism with a grain of salt, but also understand that if that you are designing cards for a specific group of people (cubers) and if even they scoff at the designs, then something is probably wrong and being able to look at that instead of saying they don't know what they are talking about (which seems to happen a fair amount among card designers) is huge step towards being a better designer in general. Know what came before, know where you want to go, and know your audience.Quote from fooliganYeah I know all that buddy, what I find is problematic is how divergent the conversations become. It highlights the unimportance of the offending subject in these little arguments and makes it really apparent that it's more about wanting to debate based on your understanding and ability to find work-around arguments.
Like who cares about that disenchant anymore. I was winning that argument about how green has always had removal. Do you see how unhelpful that extended interaction was to that idea of the card. And like it always seems to get so narrow to facilitate the getting the last word in goal of this. Like no body was bringing up effigy or colourless versions of Akromas vengeance or how loose the colour pie feels in just about every eternal format these days due to the incredible access to colour fixing it is really not a problem for black decks to play a naturalize. No the conversation took as little time considering the idea in question as it needed to make forays into other ways I can shut this other poster down or get a word in edgewise. Whatever was most heated / convenient really.
And still the content of my argument isn't engaged in favor of making a tried and true old one that is only vaguely related. We had a neat rule bending card there and it turned into a silly succession of unhelpful debates. I'm not saying we should have embraced the card with open arms, no I love working with restricted design space as much as the next guy. I'm saying the trend shuts cool ideas down and it really feels like people are more excited about trivia and getting the last word in than discussing neat ideas by how many times you see arguments like this spill out.
I thought when you decided to tell me what i might not know about green removal while I was trying to demonstrate how unhelpful and tangential the conversation had become was like the perfect example. It felt like you looked at my whole post in search of a way you could demonstrate your eminence, effectively routing the rest of what I had to say, and launched the factoid missile.
I also understand that our collective criticism is a great gauntlet for the best ideas, but I really think it's lost it's way. People aren't being broad at all with the way they look at a thing. They pick an angle of attack and see where it leads them, usually away from the subject entirely where we get to watch another trivia slugmatch and the participants didn't care because that's all they wanted out of posting on the card idea in the first place.
I think that's my main issue here. The gauntlet doesn't feel like it's about nurturing cool card ideas anymore as mi much about defeating them or defeating fellow poster's in theory or precedence arguments.
This is normally the best thing to do.Quote from fooliganAnyway I'm sorry for making a big stink here I just thought it was too on the nose the whole "green removal for x years" response and I guess I should have just chuckled to myself and not written everyone an essay. -

wtwlf123 posted a message on Print This Wizards (so I can put it in my cube)Let's let Wizards make the mistakes, just because they occasionally print stupidly broken cards that violate their own design paramaters and wind up banned and/or format wrecking doesn't mean that's what we should be submitting here. There's plenty of design space available for cards that are both expectedly printable and cubeworthy. Those designs are what this thread is designed to fish for.Posted in: The Cube Forum - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

This sounds crazy. I honestly don’t see the appeal, especially compared to magma jet. Maybe running commons makes the difference? Not hitting players makes it a completely different card.

I wouldn’t cut zulaport cutthroat for the enchantment. Cutthroat is a really strong card.
2
Yeah, why doesn't it have hexproof, indestructible, and double strike, too? Plus I'm thinking it should at least be a 10/10. What are you thinking, wizards?!
2
I think the problem with it is it's not a free card.
2
I think modern players getting their fetchland activations countered are going to disagree.

Because without that text if you wanted to cycle it with no ability to counter it would counter itself.

5 mana for a flying 4/4 with a double bitterblossom attached? That deals damage to your opponent instead of you and scales? And loots? And can't die?
Really, man?

This comparison would be apt if the zen basics all had the same hedron in the same position.
