fight with fire is gonna get cast off mana rocks much more often than 9 lands.

I play red control a lot. Like maybe 50% of red decks are control? Getting to 9 happens enough. It’s an uncommon-only cube, so maybe that makes a difference? I also think 5 damage for 3 mana is better than you’re giving it credit for.

fight with fire looks pretty incredible to me. Do you guys not like fireball? I’ve seen it end a lot of games. Fight with fire is more efficient at both things I generally do with fireball.

At 7 life it should not only hit land but also put destroyed permanents into play under your control. 7 life? That's a bunch...a whole bunch...in 60 card formats.

Yeah, why doesn't it have hexproof, indestructible, and double strike, too? Plus I'm thinking it should at least be a 10/10. What are you thinking, wizards?!

As a strictly better Hunt the Weak, this is a limited all-star. As a possible strictly-better Prey Upon as long as you control a Dino, it may actually see some commander or standard play. Great flavor at any rate.

I generally don't say "strictly better if..." It's better if you control a dino, but not strictly better (since strictly better would also mean better if you don't control a dino).
Shockingly, this is an actual documented case of "strictly better" being used correctly, as it compared a 2G sorcery (with an even lower potential cost) to a 3G sorcery that does the exact same thing. Even if you find yourself without a Dinosaur, Savage Stomp is strictly better than Hunt the Weak, not that that's saying much, as Hunt the Weak really kinda sucks.

The fact Hunt the Weak is common makes it not strictly better in terms of limited due to a higher chance of obtaining multiples. As far as card stats outside of rarity, then yes, it is strictly better.

Rarity has nothing to do with the phrase "strictly better." It doesn't factor in at all. There's mothership articles you can easily find that will explain what strictly better actually means.

Hmm... From the way it's worded, I don't think there's a time limit on your free casts, right? I mean, it doesn't explicitly mention you need to cast them this turn, right?

You have to cast them right away. Otherwise it would say "for as long as they remain in exile."

"Virtual card advantage" isn't the same thing, and the writers on the mtg site have said as much. Scrying isn't card advantage.

The Sigiled Starfish has never technically given Jenny card advantage, it's simply changed what cards wound up in her hand. Nevertheless, it's given her virtual card advantage by helping her avoid dead cards.

Shame about the discard. Is otherwise quite a decent uncommon as a poor man's Kitchen Finks. Will be decent in limited I'm sure.
I didn't see that added cost at first, but since 4/4 for 4 plus 4 life is more than fair, and it's a free card, it's still decent at least and fairly good most of the time.

I think the problem with it is it's not a free card.

The Scry 3 clearly isn't as good as drawing a card, but it's definitely a weaker form of card advantage, AND you don't have to wait until the wurm dies to reap the benefit.

It's not any form of card advantage; that's not what the phrase means.

I like the upfront scry more than the death trigger draw, but I also like the guaranteed 7 life on the wurm. Scry 3 is certainly comparable in value to drawing a card. They're pretty close cards.

People are forgetting cards like firebolt and chainer's edict if they think this is bad.

I would not play the 1/1 in limited and I can't see any other uses for it.

Awesome card. Exile is better than destroy/discard in EDH.

In what format is exiling worse?

I think this is my favorite card of the set so far. It's quite powerful but not at all busted or unfair. Groovy.

I think modern players getting their fetchland activations countered are going to disagree.

However I am not sure why this needed to have the "sources you don't control" part, paying 2U to counter some random negative drawback etb trigger like Eater of Days is way too expensive. I don't think there are any applications even for Standard to counter your own triggers.

Because without that text if you wanted to cycle it with no ability to counter it would counter itself.

I'm really not excited about paying 6 mana for this to make my other 5-8 mana Sphinxes cost 2 less. If I'm playing this even in EDH and I'm trying to make Sphinx tribal it means I'm having to wait until I can ramp up mana for this for the rest of the deck to even be worth playing. As far as I'm concerned this is HOU's Chaos Imps. Not looking forward to opening these.

The cost reduction can help you play multiple sphinxes in a turn.

And, you know... a ton of card advantage from the ability you're ignoring.
